Multiple Kids With Celiac

Hello everyone. I recently had my daughter tested for Celiac and she came back positive with her tTg levels >100. The GI doctor said to test my son and he came back with a weak positive at a 4. I am really shocked because he didn't have any symptoms that I know of other than maybe low iron off and on. My daughter on the other hand had many symptoms such as rash on face, belly aches, not on the growth charts for height, and barely for weight. I kinda expected her results to be high after researching everything but not with my son. Do other people have more than one kid with celiac? I got tested recently and tested negative. I am just feeling overwhelmed. It was enough to have to deal with this with my 2 year old daughter but now with my 5 year old son it's way too much! Please let me know if anyone else out there has had similar experiences. I am still waiting to go to the GI doctor to find out more about my son's levels but from what I understand a positive is a positive no matter what, right? They are just both so different and I am lost right now....

Big hugs, Mama! You are not alone!! :)

We have three children (almost 3, 5, and almost 7), and all are very, very sensitive to gluten. I don't know what else to say to help, but you will find a rhythm to help navigate it all. Eating gluten free (dairy and soy free too) has been a blessing in so many ways for our family!

Nope your not alone. Both my kids have it also and also my exhusband, who is only the natural father of one of them.

Luckily it was caught early in them so they should heal fast. It may even be easier with both of them having it since you won't have one teasing the other with gluten food as in 'nah, nah you can't havve thissss and it's sooooo gooood' :D

You may just want to make the whole house gluten free and make sure that you and dad get tested also.

You aren't alone. My kids (2) are gluten sensitive and we are awaiting the test results for my son. But, I think it's actually better to have both on the same diet than to have one who can stray. I'm certainly not suggesting I'm glad they both have Celiac, but I'm saying that it's better that everyone join the gluten-free eating!

At the moment, my husband is eating regular wheat bread, but it's not allowed indoors...is that mean? ha! Otherwise, I'm the cook, so everyone eats gluten-free. I don't think I could handle a split household. Too many decisions for my brain to handle

Good luck. Hope the kids adjust well and swiftly!

Thanks Scott. They are gluten-free but cross contaminated.

Hi there @MCAyr I have a small umbilical hernia which came about during my second pregnancy.   I can just about see it, and feel it, when I stand or sit, but it is far less noticeable when I lie down.  I always know when I am putting on weight because I can get pain and burning near the site, funnily enough not on the hernia itself but either side!  I would imagine bloating could cause the same effect as weight gain. In my case I don't think it is my bowel protruding but a bit of fat  - sorry,  I realise this isn't painting a very pretty picture.  But in truth it is scarcely noticeable.  It has never really got bigger in size. I was rather hoping that it could be operated on but here in the UK they don't seem to operate on every hernia anymore.  My GP isn't remotely worried about it. In a way, I should be thankful - it is like an early warning system that I need to go on a diet! Cristiana

The hernia description would likely be unrelated to celiac disease, but you'd need to get it checked out by your doctor to be sure it's a hernia.
