Question Regarding Sensitivity

So aside from a few slip-ups here and there, I've been doing gluten-free for roughly four, maybe five weeks. I've been noticing lately that when I accidentally stumble into some gluten, the response is a lot worse than it was before I went gluten-free.

For example: Last night, without thinking, I ate some of my favourite candy. Also last night, I got a really bad sinus headache and an iffy stomach. I checked the box of the candy this morning (once I realized my mistake) and it said "may contain wheat starch." Ugh.

I've been having GI/sinus issues for the last couple of years, but I've always been able to eat this candy without having such a dramatic response. Is it because I've removed gluten from my diet, so my body is reacting stronger now? Does that make sense? The longer I go gluten-free, the more sensitive I'll be to the odd glutening here and there?

Is that logical? Likely?

I too noticed I had a sinus headache and was wondering why.....have been very careful watching what I ate. Been gluten-free about 2 weeks so maybe something slipped by me. Seems like all I do is Read and Eat! Haven't gotten into the routine yet - so I read everything.

Took some Advil cold n sinus hope that was ok.

Hope you feel better.

Yes, I'm afraid that's the way it all too often turns out. When your body was being assaulted by gluten it could not fight back so well, it was overwhelmed. Now that you have done some healing and your body has built up its reinforcements, new assaults are likely to be met with much more resistance.

I seem to have gotten much more sensitive to trace gluten. On the positive side, I get over glutenings, even those with severe symptoms, much faster than before. It's been 3 years now.

Well go figure! LOL *awesome* No wonder everyone around here is so careful. I guess I'd better start being more careful too. Thanks for the input!

I eat a lot of dairy but its intermittent is this burning so I would assume it would happen all the time. Plus I have been tested for lactose intolerance  etc and I am fine and the other symptoms of that I don't get. As a aside  my dad died last month after a long illness so I wonder if the stress of that might be a influence as a bodily reaction to stress.

You should be fine.  You may start feeling better within a few days.  Someone who is very low in thiamine may notice improvement within hours.   Did you get the NeuroMag  or another magnesium supplement?

Yes Bobs redmill cgf oatmeal I started when I became gluten-free. So taking all 3 with breakfast should work? Will I notice any reactions getting used to these or should I be fine. Thanks

Hello, @pilber309, welcome to the forum! Are you currently consuming dairy?   You mentioned something about lots of yogurt and cheese, but did you cut it out or are you eating lots of it?   Could you clarify please? Some people with Celiac react to casein, the protein in dairy the same as to gluten with antibodies and villi damage.
