Arrowhead Mills And Cross Contamination?

Hi everyone,

I just called Arrowhead Mills because I'm a little hesitant to try their Tahini (sesame seed butter) because on the jar it states that it "may" contain traces of peanut, soy or wheat. I'm very very allergic to all three!

The woman that I spoke with on the phone explained that their products are made on equipment that processes all allergens, and though they are cleaned between batches, they do not test their products for contamination.

Has anyone gotten sick from Arrowhead Mills products? It makes me nervous because Tahini and nut/seed butters are so sticky...I feel like they could pick up residue on equipment. I really don't want my throat to start swelling because a peanut particle made it into my tahini!

I have steared clear of their products for the reasons that you are hesitant. I wouldn't want to risk it - especially if you have anaphalactic (spelling?) reactions. It's not worth being sick or going to the ER to find out.

I also don't use their products for the same reason. I have gotten sick from other labeled gluten-free products that had "processed in a plant that also processes wheat..." in small print. One of these was for hummus; the company replied to my email about gluten content by saying the equipment is cleaned before gluten-free ingredients are processed. Apparently not cleaned enough.

I have had reactions to some of their products, before I learned about shared processing equipment. I think that it depends on how sensitive you are. I am very sensitive.

I'm doing better off of their peanut butter and on another brand that is merely "peanuts, salt" and labeled as not being made on shared equipment, while the Arrowhead was labeled gluten free but made on shared equipment.

I'm not that sensitive but I kept getting really groggy after having peanut butter at lunch. No more.

Thanks you guys. I'm so disappointed to hear this! I'm extremely allergic to gluten, peanuts and a number of other things so it's so difficult to find safe products due to cross contamination.

I have a whole jar of Arrowhead Mills tahini sitting here! Anyone know of a company that makes tahini that isn't cross contaminated with peanuts or gluten?

I eat a lot of dairy but its intermittent is this burning so I would assume it would happen all the time. Plus I have been tested for lactose intolerance  etc and I am fine and the other symptoms of that I don't get. As a aside  my dad died last month after a long illness so I wonder if the stress of that might be a influence as a bodily reaction to stress.

You should be fine.  You may start feeling better within a few days.  Someone who is very low in thiamine may notice improvement within hours.   Did you get the NeuroMag  or another magnesium supplement?

Yes Bobs redmill cgf oatmeal I started when I became gluten-free. So taking all 3 with breakfast should work? Will I notice any reactions getting used to these or should I be fine. Thanks

Hello, @pilber309, welcome to the forum! Are you currently consuming dairy?   You mentioned something about lots of yogurt and cheese, but did you cut it out or are you eating lots of it?   Could you clarify please? Some people with Celiac react to casein, the protein in dairy the same as to gluten with antibodies and villi damage.
