A Few Questions...

Tidings

Tidings Explorer

Hello folks,

This is a wonderful and very friendly place to learn more about Celiac and hear others' experiences!

A few technical questions:

1. What does "set status" mean?, as in "has not set status"?

2. What does PIP mean?

3. Is Javascripting necessary to see everything and make everything work on the site? Or just Cookies?

4. Is there a way to enable Messaging between Members, and if so, how and where is it done?

Thanks for your help with any or all of these issues!

1. Your status is something you set in your profile. It is just a comment, and had no effect on your participation.

2. I don't know what PIP means. Where did you see this term?

3. You need to enable cookies in order to be able to log in. As far as I am aware, this board does not use Java scripts (I do have them enabled for other reasons).

4. Hmmmm. By default, the messenger should be enabled for established members like you. I tried to send you one and could not, so maybe you have blocked the function. Go to your settings, and make sure that "Disable my personal messenger" (under your time zone) is *NOT* checked.

Once it is enabled, you can send a message several ways.

If you are reading a post, there should be a button under the member's name or avatar that looks like an envelope. If you click that, a message window will open.

You can view a member's profile by clicking on their name anywhere it appears, or on their avatar. Among the options there is sending a message.

You can reach a specific moderator by clicking on "The Moderating Team" on the home page. At the right-hand side of the line with our name there is a button to send a message.

Aha! Now I see an envelope under your name! Thanks, Peter, for all your help. (The messaging had been disabled, but is now enabled.)

As for "PIP," I've seen it under some members' names in bold face. Once I saw it under my log-in name and another time I saw it under somebody's name as PIPPIPPIPPIP!? Have no idea what it means... Been scratching my head (not from DH), trying to figure out the meaning: PRETTY IMPORTANT POST? PARTICULARLY IMPETUOUS POSTER? etc. LOL! (Hopefully, it doesn't mean "PATHETICALLY IGNORANT PERSON"! Hah--Just kidding.)

Your browser is not displaying the rank images underneath the poster's "avatar", which are a series of little black dots or pips. You are seeing the alternative text, "Pip". This probably means your browser cannot display .png format.

What browser are you using? A browser old enough to not display .png format is likely to have some fairly serious security issues.

HI Skylark,

Thanks for the PIP tip! Must have had "images" turned off that day, because the little "pips" are quite visible now. Sometimes I turn off "images" in order to load things faster on various sites; probably forgot to turn them back on for this site. And yes, the .png-format images are showing up just fine. Thanks again.

Glad you got that sorted.

Was the card itself lost or just the record or both?

We were flabergasted that the owner would not acknowledge a $50 e-gift card I purchased for my celiac wife. My wife tried to open it in the store and was informed there had been a system change and they could not find the record. No worries, she was told, just talk to management. Six months later, and numerous absurd back and forths, and the owner literally informs me there have been "bad actors", so she can't make good on this lost gift card. In other words, she accused me of lying and committing fraud... over $50! Please be careful with your orders and purchases here.

Yes, some people do get withdrawal from gluten but gluten withdrawal doesn't usually cause gut pain. Maybe more like general body aches and discomfort. We have articles on gluten withdrawal on this forum. You might do a search for them. Applesauce is very acidic and some brands have added vitamin C (ascorbic acid) which makes them more acidic. This can damage the stomach lining if you eat it too often. Especially if your stomach lining is already compromised. Ibuprofen inhibits the body's ability to rebuild the stomach's protective mucosal lining. That's why it can cause peptic ulcers. As strange as it may sound, low level irritation/inflammation stimulates the body to rebuild the stomach lining. There are two steps in this rebuilding process known as COX 1 and COX 2. Ibuprofen represses both COX 1 and COX 2. Celecoxcib, a prescription anti inflammatory, inhibits only COX 2, making it less likely to cause damage to the gut lining.

Do you or anyone know alot about ibuprofen  I wasn't sure if I was eating too much apple sauce.   Something is making my pain so much worse  I'm referring to the intense pins and needles in my feet and lower legs.  Jaw actually has tardive dystonia and muscle spasms throughout my back Almost like an opposite effect that a pain reliever would do. I'm fairly new to this. Whatever is going on seems to be worsening  Do people get a withdrawal effect from gluten?  It's extremely painful 😖  I'll post that question or research on the site  Thank you everyone for responding
