Celiac, Bacterial Overgrowth, Or Ibs

Hi Everyone,

Ten years ago I was diagnosed after back to back car accidents with Fibromyalgia. I have all over body pain, fatigue, bloating, IBS symptoms, and skin issues. I have been reading books by Dr. Hyman and he has an article on bacterial overgrowth and using a Rifamixin to remove it from the intestines. I spoke with my Dr and provided her with the research but instead she sent me for testing for Celiac disease and wants me to see a Gastroenterologist.

My Mother and maternal Grandmother have IBS and pretty much my entire family is lactose intolerant.

My question is how do I know if it's Celia, IBS, or Bacterial overgrowth? Honestly I just want relief and I am tired of being tested for everything under the sun with everything coming back negative.

Thanks

Dawn

Keep eating gluten and get that celiac screening done. Hopefully the tests will show if you are celiac although false negatives are not uncommon. You could also see a dermatologist who is familiar with DH and have the areas next to your skin lesions biopsied to look for the antibodies. A diagnosis of DH is a diagnosis of celiac.

I think you have a wise doctor to insist that you be tested before giving you an antibiotic. Let us know how the testing goes and when the testing is done get on the diet strictly, you don't need to wait for the results. Since there is a chance of a false negative you need a strict dietary trial of the gluten-free diet no matter what the results.

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
