Pain Gets Worse During Menstrual Cycle

I've been experiencing "growing pains" in my legs (although I'm 21) for as long as I can remember but they get much worse during my menstrual cycle. ALL my normal symptoms: stomach cramps, headaches, nausea, sharp pains in my left side, hand tremors, confusion.. ALL seem to get worse one week before and during the week of my period. Is this something that anyone else experiences as well. I've only been gluten-free for 2 weeks so I'm not expecting everything to disappear overnight but has anyone had bad cycles as a result of gluten?

i never had growing pains..??

but on my 1st or 2nd day- my Quadriceps throb as much as my uterus does- it's the most annoying pain.. i take advil & hit my quads with my fist till it subsides. im guessing it has something to do with potassium??? idk really... i dont think it has anything to do with Celiac... BUTTTTTT i am 100% certain- that ANY menstrual symptoms should improve once diagnosed and being gluten free.

My glutening symptoms are worse when I am having my menstrual cycle. It has been fortuitous since one of my worst symptoms if uncontrollable D, for which it is convenient to have a panty liner installed. I could tell when my menstrual cycle was coming from this worsening of symptoms. After I got gluten free enough, I didn't have symptoms anymore, even during my menstrual cycle.

Me me me!! I actually really only notice my symptoms during my period and right before. I've been diagnosed by my doctor as Celiac on blood results alone. So I'm still awaiting a second opinion but for 10 cycles I have had a horrible pain in my right side, bloating, etc. during my period. I've had two ultrasounds that are normal. I've been trying to blame it on my gallbladder since that is where the pain is but it looks normal (though I haven't had HIDA scan). So maybe I really do have Celiac's and this is how it presents? I'm clueless. Just waiting for my appt at this point. Good luck to you!

Initially, that's how i noticed my pains at first as well. I thought i was just having really bad periods? Unfortunately the side pain, nausea, and leg aches got progressively more consistent and now I feel it pretty much daily. I've just been on a gluten free diet for 3 weeks so we'll see what the next cycle brings. Sure hope you're able to get on the right track too!

Thank you all for your replies. Though I wish no one else was suffering, it makes me feel good to know I'm not alone.

I eat a lot of dairy but its intermittent is this burning so I would assume it would happen all the time. Plus I have been tested for lactose intolerance  etc and I am fine and the other symptoms of that I don't get. As a aside  my dad died last month after a long illness so I wonder if the stress of that might be a influence as a bodily reaction to stress.

You should be fine.  You may start feeling better within a few days.  Someone who is very low in thiamine may notice improvement within hours.   Did you get the NeuroMag  or another magnesium supplement?

Yes Bobs redmill cgf oatmeal I started when I became gluten-free. So taking all 3 with breakfast should work? Will I notice any reactions getting used to these or should I be fine. Thanks

Hello, @pilber309, welcome to the forum! Are you currently consuming dairy?   You mentioned something about lots of yogurt and cheese, but did you cut it out or are you eating lots of it?   Could you clarify please? Some people with Celiac react to casein, the protein in dairy the same as to gluten with antibodies and villi damage.
