Whole Foods Bakery-yum

Just got back from a trip to So. Wisconsin and went to the Whole Foods in Madison, the only one in Wisconsin. They now have baked goods baked in their own bakery and shipped in. My guess is that they go through a LOT of it as what I got from the shelf was partly frozen and they probably can't even keep it out there long enough for it to thaw. I passed up the cookies, pies etc. but bought the cinnamon raison bread and it is soooooooooo good, I just can't even tell you how much. It is as good as the best cinnamon raison bread that I have ever had. These people are going be rich just off their gluten-free baked goods alone if the rest is as good as the product that I bought. What a treat to buy something that is of this quality. I also bought Energy pretzles with sesame seeds that are excellent....had never seen them before and I think I will try to see if my health food store will get them in for me. They are dark brown, light and buttery and the sesame seeds add a nice touch. REALLY good pretzles. Just wanted to share these two great products with you.

My dad lives about 4 blocks from there! Awesome, now I can check it out when I visit. I was wondering if they had a bake shop at that store.

as I am sitting here I am eating a blueberry muffin from the Whole Foods Gluten Free Bakehouse! It is MOST EXCELLENT!!!! I love their sandwich bread, cornbread, chocolate chip cookies, banana bread and these blueberry muffins!!! So happy to have a Whole Foods near me.

Not all Whole Foods stores carry the items from the gluten-free Bakehouse. I checked out the website and was glad I did because the store I was planning to go to does not carry the line. So I am bringing my daughter to a different location tomorrow to stock up. She is really excited! Anyway, just thought I'd let you know it is a good idea to check the website first since some of you have to travel long distances to get to a Whole Foods. Also, someone on Delphi suggested bringing a cooler to those of you who do travel far for your gluten-free food.

Cool!! Next year we are getting one about 30-45 mins from us(first one in the state!)... with all the posts here talking about how good they are I cant wait!

Yeah, lots of the Whole Foods things are good. Ever eat some of the things from Wild Oats? Basically, very similar store to Whole Foods. Fortunatly for me, there are about 4 Wild Oats with in 10 minutes of driving and 2 Whole Foods. :> Gotta love Boulder, CO.

If you stop by a Wild Oats, try their own brand of mini chocolate chip cookies, gluten free of course. I think they are the tastiest cookie I have eaten before. That includes non wheat ones, I still remeber other fondly as I just got on gluten free about a month ago.

We went to check out the Bakehouse line today. There was not too much to choose from. Many of the items listed on the website were not available. I did not expect they all would be, but we had about 5 items to choose from. However, there were some brands I had not previously been able to obtain so all was not lost. I did want to say that many of the gluten-free Bakehouse foods are suited more to adults than children. My 11 year old was interested in the cookies but not much else. She did enjoy them though and that is what counts!

I brought the lemon poppyseed cake to a cookout and NO ONe even knew it was gluten-free. And the second best part (the first being the taste) is that it's a dedicated warehouse so you don't have to worry about cross-contagulation (my friend Scott has an album out and that is the name of it so now my husband and I refer to cross-contamination as that instead- more fun!).

I agree..there bakery is awsome!!! :D

We tried the apple pie, I couldn't taste any differencefrom regular, it was fantastic. We got the cornbread, yum. We also tried the banana bread, unbelievably good, but the best for me was the almond scones.

The only kind of cookie that I have really missed is my mother's almond thumbprints, my most favorite cookie in the world. I don't really like scones because they are usually too bland and dry. Whole foods scones tasted more like my mom's thumbprints. Moist fabulous and totally yummy.

My husband did not know the chocolate chip cookie was gluten-free until I told him. This was a first in our house, someone not recognizing food as gluten-free. The food is ridiculously expensive though, but I will spend the money for the taste my daughter loves. We cannot believe how happy she is with those cookies!

I agree, Whole Foods has delicious gluten-free stuff. Even Trader Joes does. These are the two stores I have within walking distance from my place, and I often go there. I prefer Whole Foods to Trader Joes, though. Whole Foods has a chocolate truffle (flourless) cake which is simply divine!

The Bakehouse stuff is fantastic! For New Yorkers-- the 23rd St location does not carry any gluten-free stuff, but 14th St has quite a bit. Not sure about 55th St yet. I have been thoroughly enjoying the peanut butter cookies and cornbread, although, like all gluten-free food, they are outrageously expensive.

You might also consider a low iodine diet as iodine is know to exacerbate dermatitis herpetiformis. But be careful with that as well as there are health problems that can accrue from iodine deficiency.

Hi, Yes, the rash has gone. I still get the itches but there is nothing to see now, apart from a lot of discoloured areas where the rash was worst. Occasionally I get a single lump come up, a bit like hives, but no bigger than a pea and it goes after 24hrs and a steroid cream application.  And yes, giving the gluten-free diet 110%. Very careful about any cross contamination.  This is my fifth autoimmune condition so well and truly on that bandwagon.

Welcome to the the celiac.com community, @suek54! Is the Dapsone getting the rash under control? Are you practicing a gluten free diet yet? The only known cause for dermatitis herpetiformis is celiac disease.

Hi Im new to this game, so bear with me.  May through to December last year totally miserable, covered literally head to toe in the worst rash ever, itching like I just cant explain. After seven different medics told me just to "keep putting the cream on, whatever it is will go in the end" finally one lovely doc diagnosed dermatitis herpetiformis. Biopsy 6 weeks ago and Dapsone, which I seem to be tolerating OK so far.  The NHS is in permanent backlog so no result yet but just wanted to say hello to anyone else with this maddening condition.

I know gluten free proteins like eggs and yogurt but nuts especially trail mixes are tricky as they are hard to find certified gluten free trail mixes especially w/o added sugars. I agree subscription boxes are hit or miss I think I have found RXBar with simple ingredients no added sugars gluten-free might be a great protein bar.
