Hi,

I just made brown belt... Took me just over 2 years, probably averaged 7 hours a week in the dojo.

I would love to connect with other celiacs with this interest.

HI Virginiabeach!

My name is Amy, I live in Alaska. I am 41. What martial art are you taking? I did Shorin Ryu karate for 2 years and a weapons class for 1 when I lived in CA. Now I am taking Seibukan Jujutsu, just got my sankyu on Thursday. (2nd green belt, the belts are different than in Karate). I am also taking Battojutsu which is a sword class.

I really love the weapons stuff btw. In Kobudo we used traditional okinawan weapons, I did bo, sai and just started on nunchaku when I had to move. In Seibukan we use tanto, bokken, jo (a short staff), a small piece of rope that I can't remember the name of and an even smaller tiny piece of wood.

In Battojutsu you use a wooden sword called a bokken also an unsharpened katana. When you get higher up in ranks you actually get to cut mats and need a shinken (sharp katana). Oh I could go on and on. Here is a photo of me at a workshop I was lucky enough to be able to attend. I actually had only been in batto for 2 months and the Shihon came to visit. I was allowed to cut some mats, which was extraordinary! Here is a photo. Open Original Shared Link

I just found out Friday afternoon that I most likely have celiacs, I have been having problems for over 1 year, maybe 2. There were times when I would be driving to class and feel like crap but somehow almost always I would feel better just in time. Maybe it was a mental thing where I wasn't focusing on what hurt any longer, I don't know. One of my symptoms was I always seemed to have gas so I was worried about that but thankfully no embarressing moments. Besides the guys always blame the mats anyway, LOL.

I will be going for an endoscopy and biopsy (soon I hope). : )

Nice to meet you, if you want to talk more on martials arts just let me know. I can talk and talk. : )

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?

Thankyou so much for your words. Its a hard battle when a supposed well known hospital whose celiac " specialist " has down played me because my colon looks fine and put it in my medical and so pcp doesn't take seriously. In their eyes we all carry that gene.Im having alot of bad days trying to be positive because of it.
