Acne Like?

OVer the last couple of years, the acne on my chin and around my mouth has gotten worse. I started gluten-free, and my skin cleared up majorly. I do have a lot of red marks from where the active outbreak was. All of a sudden, it's started back. I have tried so many things to treat it, but it won't go away. They itch really badly.

I purposly glutened myself today (I just couldn't resist a bite of baklava!) About 2 hours later, I felt like I was getting a really bad zit on the under part of my lip. I got in the car and looked, and it was almost like a welt. I thought maybe it was a bug bite because it itched/burned so bad. Maybe it's dh? I can't get a good picure of my chin to show you what it looks like.

I also have a spot on my left foot that sometimes gets sooo itchy, that i scratch until it bleeds and it scars. ny relation?

My chin still burns and itches now, and it's almost 4 hours later.

from about 1994-1998: i had the world's WORST excema on my right foot (on the inside)- i would scratch it till it bled- and i would have to stop scratching- but the itch would still be there- it was HORRIBLE. i would wake up in the middle of the night to itch it

when i went on Atkins- it went away.. and even tho i didnt go 100% Gluten free till July 1, 2010.. it never came back THANK GOD.. i know it was gluten related

It's possible that you have two conditions going on. Yes, I DO believe that you may have a bit of DH, but acne around the mouth can indicate that you're deficient in zinc. Do you also have a little dandruff? This also indicates low zinc, as does floppiness of the tendons (only if the deficiency is quite bad). If you can find it, take amino acid chelated zinc to see if the acne gets better. Usually, I get this condition about a month after I've been glutened. The last time I was accidentally glutened was seven months ago, and it took me six months to figure out that I had a severe zinc deficiency due to malabsorption. By that time, both of my feet had suffered stress fractures from the tendons being affected--and I couldn't get rid of the acne around my mouth and chin. I finally figured out what the problem was and began supplementing with zinc, and now my feet no longer hurt and the acne has cleared up.

That's very interesting that you say that about zinc. I have asked so many times about mlabsortion, and they told me not to worrt about it. I'm really bad about remembering vitamines also. They just ordered me Retin-A, but my insurance won't approve it. I have a hard time with pills. Are they small?

I looked further into Thiamax Vitamin B1 by objective nutrients and read all the great reviews. I think I will give this a try. I noticed only possible side affect is possibly the first week so body adjusts. Life Extensions carries Benfotiamine with Thiamine and the mega one you mentioned. Not sure if both in one is better or seperate. some reviews state a laxative affect as side affect. SHould I take with my super B complex or just these 2 and multivitamin? I will do further research but I appreciate the wonderful explanation you provided on Thiamine.

There are other Celiac genes. HLA DQ 2 and HLA DQ 8 show up in people from Northern European descent.   People of Mediterranean descent have HLA DQ 7.  People of Asian descent have HLA DQ 9.   There's other Indigenous populations that have other HLA genes that code for Celiac disease.   Are you still having symptoms?   What do you include in your diet?  Are you vegetarian? Are you taking any prescription medication?  Omeprazole?  Metformin?   Do you have anemia?  Thyroid problems? Are you taking any vitamins or herbal supplements?

There are eight essential B vitamins.  They are all water soluble.  Any excess of B vitamins is easily excreted by the kidneys.   Thiamine is Vitamin B 1.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Benfotiamine and TTFD are forms of Thiamine that the body can utilize very easily.   The form of Thiamine in the supplements you mentioned is Thiamine Mononitrate, a form that the body does not absorb well and does not utilize well.  Only about thirty percent of the amount on the label is actually absorbed in the small intestine.  Less than that can actually be used by the body.  Manufacturers add thiamine mononitrate to their products because it's cheap and shelf-stable.  Thiamine and other B vitamins break down when exposed to light and heat and over time.  Thiamine Mononitrate is a form that does not break down over time sitting on a shelf waiting for someone to buy them.  What makes Thiamine Mononitrate shelf stable makes it difficult for the body to turn into a useable form.  In fact, it takes more thiamine to turn it into a useable form.   Gastrointestinal Beriberi is a localized shortage of Thiamine in the gastrointestinal tract.  High carbohydrate meals can result in gastrointestinal symptoms of Gastric Beriberi.  Fiber is a type of carbohydrate.  So, high fiber/carbohydrate snacks could trigger Gastric Beriberi.   Since blood tests for Thiamine and other B vitamins are so inaccurate, the World Health Organization recommends trying Thiamine and looking for health improvement because it's safe and nontoxic.
