Immodium

I use to overuse immodium when I was traveling (or teaching) to prevent the big D. I have not touched it since getting my diagnosis but today I made the mistake of eating something I shouldn't have. We are having company for dinner and I'm tempted to take just one but don't know if I should. I know that I won't ever get back into the cycle of taking it the way I did but I do need to be a good hostess. Thankfully I already pre-coked the dinner for my husband and his friend yesterday (I won't be able to eat it because of dairy and tomatoes).

Any words of wisdom from this wonderful forum?

Loey

I'd take it, Loey. I also feel I over used it in the past--I would take it to prevent possible problems--it was like a crutch for me. I still take it for situations like yours--I spoke to my doctor about this very subject and she said that even once a week is no problem at all.

Thanks for the speedy reply. If I wasn't having company for dinner I'd just deal with it but I haven't even showered and want to get salad ingredients and either bake something for dessert or buy a gluten-free dessert my grocery store carries. Did I ever tell you that jerseyangel is a fitting name for you? You certainly are an angel!

Agreed. I'm an immodium advocate for situations like that. I too, used to overuse immodium and try to avoid it now but sometimes you just have to use it!

It certainly saved the day yesterday. I don't think I could have done my errands or made dinner without it.

I survived our company (actually enjoyed it). He's a co-worker of my husband who was transferred like we were except his wife didn't come with him (she loves her job). He's a bachelor during the week so it was nice to make him a home cooked meal and give him leftovers.

Patti, apple crumble was yummy!!!!

This older article makes me wonder about the GFCO and its protocols:

I’ve been using almond flour from nuts.com for over 10 years. I have dermatitis herpetiformis all over. The rash started about two months ago. I finally eliminated the almond flour, labeled certified gluten free, two weeks ago, and I think the dermatitis herpetiformis is finally healing. I am so bummed.

If you need that designation you'll likely need to switch to a different brand. It's unfortunate that they don't add it to their label and test for gluten.

Thank you for the reply  , I have tried the Baush & Lomb brand and did have a gluten reaction.  O spoke to the mfg and they state the same as many other mfgs.   - NO Gluten intentionally added to product , but they have no control ( they choose not to) over their suppliers of various ingredients  I am really trying to only take vitamins  that clearly state gluten free

DiGiorno reformulated and have not been using wheat starch for a couple of years now, so this should not be an issue: https://www.goodnes.com/digiorno/products/digiorno-gluten-free-frozen-pepperoni-pizza/ It does contain other ingredients that may be causing you IBS-like issues, for example guar gum.  Many gluten-free foods and baking mixes contain xanthan gum or other gums like guar gum. Although they are both gluten-free, they may cause IBS-type issues in some people with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity:
