More Sensitivity To Dairy?

I am about 7 weeks into the gluten-free diet and have been finding that, after a sort of honeymoon period of feeling great, have now had a few bouts of having discomfort/pain/bloating after eating anything. It lasts for a few days, so I always assume that somehow I've CC'd myself. Of course, after Thanksgiving at family's house, I'm going through that now and figure it must be from mild CC at that meal.

I'm wondering about dairy though. I was moderately lactose intolerant before being diagnosed, but lactaid pills always worked fine. My GI said it should be fine to continue eating dairy with lactaid, and I use dairy as a big source of fat, protein and calcium in my diet so I'm hesitant to take it out (I'm having trouble getting enough calories these days). I've read a lot of people's posts that say you should avoid dairy because of possible sensitivity to casein... What do you all think?

Is it common to become more sensitive to dairy? Or could Lactaid allow me to keep eating it? I don't want to take things out if I don't need to...

You don't need to avoid dairy, but yes, you might be more sensitive to it as you're healing. Lactose intolerance frequently crops up after someone goes gluten free--but it should go away once your intestines are healed enough to digest the dairy.

Just limit your diary to whatever you can tolerate. Some people take it out entirely for a few months, but not doing so won't affect the healing.

You may have other intolerances that have cropped up since going gluten free. Like dairy, most should resolve themselves eventually, but you may need to eliminate a few things for now.

EDIT: I should note that I always feel sick after everything I eat in the days after being glutened. Glutenings can last days, even a couple of weeks, and they don't always appear immediately. It'd be worth it to go over your food again just to be sure.

i am so glad i read this, i am having the same problem.i can have a little half and half in my coffee, but yogurt or cheese, no good. i wasn't given much education on celiac, so reading these posts, is helping me understand whats going on in my body, other foods i used to eat (blueberry's, almond butter) don't agree with me either, but I'm at least getting the understanding here, as things heal,i may tolerate more. ahhh hope!

So there was no physical, plastic card involved, correct?

When my wife attempted to open the online card in the store with a cashier, it would not work. We then showed the owner the link to the card, the online receipt that I got upon purchase, and even my bank statement confirming the purchase. That did not satisfy her, since she said she needed the link to open to reveal the gift ID num. They even admitted they had a systems problem around that time.

Was the card itself lost or just the record or both?

We were flabergasted that the owner would not acknowledge a $50 e-gift card I purchased for my celiac wife. My wife tried to open it in the store and was informed there had been a system change and they could not find the record. No worries, she was told, just talk to management. Six months later, and numerous absurd back and forths, and the owner literally informs me there have been "bad actors", so she can't make good on this lost gift card. In other words, she accused me of lying and committing fraud... over $50! Please be careful with your orders and purchases here.
