Is This Possible?

My youngest has all but been diagnosed with celiac. Her blood tests were positive and her observed reactions are pretty apparent. Just waiting to do the endo/biopsy for the doctor's official seal.

We are gluten free in our home. I told the doctor that I was going to go ahead and switch her over because continuing to feed her gluten when it causes her such pain was child abuse, in my opinion. She agreed and didn't think she would heal fully by December 29th.

I was completely gluten free for about 3 days since I didn't eat anything from outside the house. Last night I had a couple of beers. I woke up in the middle of the nights totally bloated and in a lot of pain. I called it a "corn-lite" experience because it reminded of what it felt like when I would eat corn when I was pregnant with my middle daughter. I still don't eat corn to this day because of how awful I felt.

I am going to get my blood work done in January, since I do have a history of IBS-y like issues. I just don't have time before the holidays. I have been trying to keep gluten in my diet so that the testing will be accurate. I just don't bring it into the house,

If someone has celiac, is it possible to have a more extreme reaction after being gluten free for only 3 days?

yes! absolutely! my reactions are way more alert and severe than before going gluten free!

Yep. I screwed up four days into gluten-free and got a wicked stomachache when I messed up. I'd never had stomach/abdominal pain pre-diagnosis either.

Yup. I had NO gut pain before I was diagnosed, and after 2 days of being gluten free, I had gluten free chips that we since found out have more gluten cc than I could handle, and I was very sick.

I don't know if it's as common as those who start having issues with gluten after a few weeks on the gluten free diet, but it definitely happens.

I'm very confused... My blood test came out negative, I checked all antibodies. I suppose my Total IgA levels are normal (132 mg/dl), so the test should be reliable. Still, I'm not relieved as I can't tolerate even a single biscuit. I need to talk to my doctor about whether a duodenal biopsy is necessary. But it is really possible to have intestinal damage despite having a seronegative results? I have really strong symptoms, and I don't want to keep skipping university lectures or being bedridden at home.

They may want to also eliminate other possible causes for your symptoms/issues and are doing additional tests.  Here is info about blood tests for celiac disease--if positive an endoscopy where biopsies of your intestinal villi are taken to confirm is the typical follow up.

In the Europe the new protocol for making a celiac disease diagnosis in children is if their tTg-IgA (tissue transglutaminase IgA) levels are 10 times or above the positive level for celiac disease--and you are above that level. According to the latest research, if the blood test results are at certain high levels that range between 5-10 times the reference range for a positive celiac disease diagnosis, it may not be necessary to confirm the results using an endoscopy/biopsy: Blood Test Alone Can Diagnose Celiac Disease in Most Children and Adults TGA-IgA at or Above Five Times Normal Limit in Kids Indicates Celiac Disease in Nearly All Cases No More Biopsies to Diagnose Celiac Disease in Children! May I ask why you've had so many past tTg-IgA tests done, and many of them seem to have been done 3 times during short time intervals?

@JettaGirl, "Coeliac" is the British spelling of "celiac". Same disease.

This may sound ridiculous but is this supposed to say Celiacs? I looked up Coeliacs because you never know, there’s a lot of diseases related to a disease that they come up with similar names for. It’s probably meant to say Celiacs but I just wanted to confirm.
