Hello

I am seeing my doctor in 2 days, she will send me for blood work.

What tests should I insist on getting? the little I know is that ther is the IgA test and the tTg test. I also read somewhere about the "total IgA", the EM and the anti-endomysium... what are those and do I need them?

I am in Quebec Canada

thanks so much for your help!

Hello and welcome from Ontario

You would want a total IgA, the TTG (tissue transglutanimase) and/or EMA (antiendomysuium). It will depend what tests are available at the labs.

The IgA is a protein found in blood. Many Celiacs are IgA deficient. The TTG test is for an antibody that indicates tissue damage (ie your body attacking itself). This is from the villi damage from gluten. The EMA is similar.

You may want to tell her you want a Celiac panel, many labs have a package of tests that they offer. There is a test called anti-gliadin that I had done as well but it is apparently not a great test for Celiac. It looks at antibodies to wheat but healthy people can have this as well. A better test (although I don't know if offered in Canada) is the Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) Antibody.

Good luck, let us know what your Dr. says

The Lindt (Lindor) dairy-free oat milk truffles are definitely gluten-free, and (last time I checked) so are the white chocolate truffles and the mint chocolate truffles.

I've used magnesium taurinate and magnesium taurate vitamins.  Didn't notice much of a difference when I used them.

More great tips, and a good excuse to shop at M&S and also buy more iced buns!   I wish we had an ASDA near us, as the few times we've been to one their gluten-free pasta range seemed very reasonably priced compared to other shops.  Thanks so much, @Russ H.
