Glutened... How Long Do Your Symptoms Last?

I was just wondering how long your symptoms last after you get glutened? I am still trying to get to the bottom of some of my symptoms and I feel like it takes a good 2 weeks for them to go away after eating gluten. For example, I am swollen for two weeks after I eat even small amounts of gluten. D doesn't normally happen for a couple of days. Do your symptoms last that long? Thanks in advance!

It usually takes me about 3 weeks to get over a glutening. Like you the D doesn't hit until 2 or 3 days later and that is generally gone in a day but other stuff like brain fog, joint and muscle pain etc last for a bit.

Gluten Glutton Newbie

I've only been gluten-free for three months, and am currently dealing with my first glutened experience. Fun times! ;)

I just found out the cereal I've been eating now has "natural malt flavour" at the very bottom of the ingredients list. Oops. I swear it didn't the first time I read the ingredients and that they added it in between the first and second box I purchased. At any rate, I started getting symptoms a day or two after my first bowl from box #2 and had no idea why my body was reacting again. I stopped eating it on Friday of last week and my gut/bowel symptoms are just starting to get a little better again. I now have the joint aches, which was a key symptom when I was eating gluten and my only major symptom of withdrawal when I went gluten-free. I'm hoping this means the last of it is on its way out. Fingers crossed!

They may want to also eliminate other possible causes for your symptoms/issues and are doing additional tests.  Here is info about blood tests for celiac disease--if positive an endoscopy where biopsies of your intestinal villi are taken to confirm is the typical follow up.

In the Europe the new protocol for making a celiac disease diagnosis in children is if their tTg-IgA (tissue transglutaminase IgA) levels are 10 times or above the positive level for celiac disease--and you are above that level. According to the latest research, if the blood test results are at certain high levels that range between 5-10 times the reference range for a positive celiac disease diagnosis, it may not be necessary to confirm the results using an endoscopy/biopsy: Blood Test Alone Can Diagnose Celiac Disease in Most Children and Adults TGA-IgA at or Above Five Times Normal Limit in Kids Indicates Celiac Disease in Nearly All Cases No More Biopsies to Diagnose Celiac Disease in Children! May I ask why you've had so many past tTg-IgA tests done, and many of them seem to have been done 3 times during short time intervals?

@JettaGirl, "Coeliac" is the British spelling of "celiac". Same disease.

This may sound ridiculous but is this supposed to say Celiacs? I looked up Coeliacs because you never know, there’s a lot of diseases related to a disease that they come up with similar names for. It’s probably meant to say Celiacs but I just wanted to confirm.

I was told it was to see how much damage has been caused. But just told CT with contrast not any other name for it.
