Generic Ibuprofen

Hi guys :)

I need your help! I am in horrible pain today and need to take some ibuprofen. I have some prescription generic stuff but called the pharmacist about it and he was basically clueless about gluten. Yikes.

The manufacturer is Par Pharmaceuticals.

Anyway, here is the list of ingredients I found online. Please let me know if any of these appear to be dangerous to you:

Iron Oxide

Carnauba Wax

Colloidal silicone dioxide

Polydextrose

Croscarmellose Sodium

Hypromellose

Magnesium stearate

Microcrystalline cellulose

Polydextrose

Polyethylene glycol

Polysorbate

Titanium dioxide

(Sorry if I spelled those wrong!)

Please let me know as soon as you can. I'm really hurting :(

Thanks!

Except for Croscarmellose Sodium and Hypromellose, all of the ingredients you listed are on the safe list I use.

I found this on Croscarmellose Sodium:

"Description: Cross linked sodium carboxymethylcellulose White, free flowing powder with high absorption capacity. Contains no sugar or starch."

Sounds safe (no starch).

Hypromellose is an unknown to me.

Well I found this info (at Open Original Shared Link )

Hypromellose, 2208, 4,000 cps, USP (HY124)

Synonymns: Methocel E4M; Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose; Propylene Glycol Ether of Methylcellulose; Modified Cellulose; HPMC

If those are the correct synonyms for hypromellose, I'm guessing it's safe. I'm going to take one. Even if you find out later - please let me know if I'm doing something dangerous! I've got a whole bottle of these things!

Thanks psawyer!! :)

The ingredient to watch out for in generic ibuprofen is "stodium Starch glycolate" which is in some brands (Savon for one)

Thanks Peggy!

p.s. a few hours later... so far, so good! :) I think I'm in the clear :)

Hello, I was very stick,  with flu like symptoms, but my virus panel came back negative and we couldn’t figure out what’s going on. The doctor then added a celiac panel.  Has anyone ever had such a dramatic change?  What are the odds this is true celiac I am going to have an endoscopy, but it’s expensive and I just feel like why can’t the labs be enough?

Eating out in general is full of risks, but this article may help:

This kind of question is always difficult to give a definitive answer to because of so many variables. One such variable is the sensitivity of the individual celiac to small amounts of gluten cross contamination. An amount that causes a reaction in one celiac many not in another, or at least not be discernable which, of course, does not exactly equate to being "safe".

I don't live in the US, but based on this thread, I wouldn't risk it:   https://www.reddit.com/r/glutenfree/comments/1n2ehw8/cracker_barrel/   This app is helpful: https://www.findmeglutenfree.com/

I see that Cracker Barrel restaurants have a gluten free menu (not all locations, but one confirmed that they do). I was wondering if it is safe for my 5 year old son with celiac disease?
