Moving right along here.. I just thought of my husband's asthma meds. (puffer)

You would think they wouldn't contain anything remotely like gluten or wheat right??

How would I go about finding out?

Thanks,

AlwaysHope

Hi,

Did you happen to find out anything? I tried looking online searching for albuterol, but could only find that the propellants were either hydrofluoroalkane or chlorofluorocarbon. Does anybody know if either of these contain grain alcohol?

I've not found an inhaler that has gluten. The CFC's and replacements for them in metered-dose inhalers are synthetically derived. The base in dry-powder inhalers usually does contain some *lactose* however, though not gluten. (Be aware with metered-dose inhalers (the ones with propellants); sometimes the propellant itself can trigger an asthma attack. It may be smaller than a regular one because you're medicating at the same time, but it can be a trigger. I can't use MDI's for this reason, and have to use DPI's.)

I use a liguid Albuterol for my nebulizer and have been told by my RX provider that it is gluten-free. I use this web site to check out my meds. www.glutenfreedrugs.com. If something is not listed, then I call the drug manufactor to check. I have found that many generics contain gluten. But, I am lucky in that I only pay $6.00 a RX for non generic.

Thank you Armetta and Tiffany. I use both Albuterol and Pulmicort. The Albuterol is an as needed med - I always have it with me for an emergency. And I don't usually need the Pulmicort until the house is closed up for the winter, but we got a puppy in February. (Dog/Cat Allergy) In the beginning she would only make me itch when she licked me, but this summer I started having to rely on my pulmicort and puffer. Maybe as she got older I became less tolerant of her, or maybe it has to do with going gluten free in May. Who knows... but the puppy stays :D

Be careful that it doesn't exacerbate your asthma to levels that are dangerous for you. If it's allergy based, talk to your allergist about allergy shots, and keep that cute little puppy bathed - weekly, at least!

I got allergy shots faithfully for almost 7 years and then I stopped. After 5 years which is the norm, he tested me and said there was barely a difference - that was very discouraging, but I kept going for another year and a half until I had a miscarriage, and at that point I really wasn't in the mood for shots anymore so I just stopped going.

I'll bathe my puppy, she's small (an irish jack russell). :D

I hope you are on the mend soon. About 1 in 5 people who contracted chicken pox as a child go on to develop shingles in later life - it is not uncommon. There are 5 known members of the herpes virus family including chicken pox that commonly infect humans, and they all cause lifelong infections. The exact cause of viral reactivation as in the case of shingles or cold sores is not well understood, but stress, sunburn and radiotherapy treatment are known triggers. Some of the herpes viruses are implicated in triggering autoimmune diseases: Epstein-Barr virus is suspected of triggering multiple sclerosis and lupus, and there is a case where it is suspected of triggering coeliac disease. As to whether coeliac disease can increase the likelihood of viral reactivation, there have been several cohort studies including a large one in Sweden suggesting that coeliac disease is associated with a moderate increase in the likelihood of developing shingles in people over the age of 50. US 2024 - Increased Risk of Herpes Zoster Infection in Patients with Celiac Disease 50 Years Old and Older Sweden 2018 - Increased risk of herpes zoster in patients with coeliac disease - nationwide cohort study

BFree bread is fortified with vitamins and minerals as is ASDA own-brand gluten-free bread. All the M&S bread seems to be fortified also.

You might try Heallix.  It's a silver solution with fulvic acid. I just put the solution on with a cotton ball.  It seemed to stop the nerve pain. Again,  not in your eyes or ears.   Go to heallix.com to read more about it and decide for yourself Also,  I do think nerve and celiac combined have a lot to do with your susceptibility to shingles breaking out.

Celiac disease requires both genetic potential and a triggering stress event to activate the genes. Otherwise it remains dormant and only a potential problem. So having the genetic potential is not deterministic for celiac disease. Many more people have the genes than actually develop the disease. But if you don't have the genes, the symptoms are likely being caused by something else.

Yes, i pulled raw ancetry data and saw i have 2/3 markers for DQ2.2 but have heard from friends in genetics that this raw data can be wildly innacurate
