Android Market Has A Gluten Free Restaurant Finder!

Maybe some of you already know this, but there is a "find me gluten free" APP for FREE!!!! I was recently on a road trip from Minnesota to the Carolina's. When we got to South Carolina, I thought to myself how much easier it would be to just know what places there were, and not have to keep calling each restaurant. So I searched in my Android Market and found it for FREE!!! Made my whole year!! It will search over 30 miles from your location, and let you know whether it has a gluten-free menu or if they are just willing to work with you. I was able to eat at all new places (I tend to default to the Outbacks and Red Robins I always eat at here in MN) the whole trip without getting cross contaminated or looked at like I had two heads when I asked about gluten-free dining. Hope this helps someone!! If you do get this app, be sure to "suggest" places so we can get it built up and have more and more options!! Yay!

Thank you so much! I just downloaded the app. I'm fairly new with having a smart phone (DroidX), so still learning how to use it and all the wonderful things it can do for me. This will be VERY useful.

You're welcome! I am still excited about it!! It's pretty easy and quick to use. Love/hate how popular gluten-free is becoming...love that people are aware....hate that some people think it's a "fad diet" and that they don't have to be careful. So, now we can find the places who know how important it is to us!

I downloaded that the other day. It was really good to see it and a couple others on there as well. My phone is more useful than most of the rest of my body so anything that will enhance my life with it is something I'll cheerfully support.

      @Martha Mitchell, your reaction to the lens implant with gluten sounds like it could be an allergic reaction rather than a celiac reaction. It is possible for a celiac to be also allergic to gluten as it is a protein component in wheat, barley and rye.

      Scott I also have different symptoms than most people. It affects me bad. Stomach ache, headache, nauseous, heart racing, whole body shaking, can't walk then my throat starts to close. It attacks my nervous system. The only thing that saves me is a 1/2 of Xanax...it calms down my nervous system

      Scott Adams. I was dealing with a DR that didn't care about me being celiac. I repeatedly told him that I was celiac and is everything gluten-free. He put an acrylic lens from j&j. I called the company to ask about gluten and was told yes that the acrylic they use has gluten....then they back tracked immediately and stopped talking to me. The Dr didn't care that I was having issues. It took me 6 months and a lot of sickness to get it removed.... which can only happen within 6 months. The Dr that took it out said that it was fused and that's why I lost vision. If they would have removed it right away everything would be fine. He put in a silicone one that was gluten-free and I've had no issues at all in the other eye. Do not do acrylic!

      Welcome @Martha Mitchell, I too would like to know more about your prior lenses, and especially about the potential of gluten in lenses. In theory this should not harm most celiacs, as the autoimmune reaction normally begins in the gut, however, in those who are super sensitive or have dermatitis herpetiformis it may be a potential issue.
