My husband took me to Edmonton for our monthly blissful culinary shopping spree and bingefest. After reading reviews and information on Brit's Fish and Chips, I became interested. Fish and chips is something I thought I may never eat again. Sure, it is something that can be made at home but deep frying is something I rarely do.

Anyway, the menu is exactly like those all over the UK where we've had the best fish and chips on the planet. I could even have had a deep-fried Mars bar or pickles. Nearly anything on the menu can be made gluten free because they have a gluten-free batter and dedicated fryer. The staff is well versed and one has celiac herself. So, we ordered a large platter of haddock, cod, onion rings and fries and curry sauce (and coleslaw). It was all gluten free to prevent any chance of cross contamination. It was amazing! The batter was tempura like and very light and crispy. The service was excellent. I was so happy there were tears in my eyes. The tartar sauce was gluten free as well. Usually is, but sometimes it is not. The batter is lighter in colour, of course, which differentiates it from the gluten version. My husband was very impressed as well and was very happy with the gluten-free version. He was also so happy to see me so happy. Lovely man, he is. :)

If you are ever in Edmonton (I know a couple of you live there) try it out if you ever have a craving for something deep fried and delicious.

In fact, when I think of that day I do not reflect back to the fantastic dinner we had but to the fish and chips lunch because it was that exciting to me.

That sounds yummy Love! I just checked out Edmonton's visitor guide, it looks like a beautiful city too. :)

How nice of you to check it out! It is a pretty city, actually, with a lot of trees. It is a joy to visit for many reasons but it is far prettier than my town. Oh, well. You can't have it all! You wouldn't like the climate but this year's winter was the warmest on record I believe (at least it was where I live). The snow is melting quickly!

      Welcome to the the celiac.com community, @suek54! Is the Dapsone getting the rash under control? Are you practicing a gluten free diet yet? The only known cause for dermatitis herpetiformis is celiac disease.

      Hi Im new to this game, so bear with me. May through to December last year totally miserable, covered literally head to toe in the worst rash ever, itching like I just cant explain. After seven different medics told me just to "keep putting the cream on, whatever it is will go in the end" finally one lovely doc diagnosed dermatitis herpetiformis...

      Healthy Gluten Free Foods low sugar that you found?

      I know gluten free proteins like eggs and yogurt but nuts especially trail mixes are tricky as they are hard to find certified gluten free trail mixes especially w/o added sugars. I agree subscription boxes are hit or miss I think I have found RXBar with simple ingredients no added sugars gluten-free might be a great protein bar.

      I sure appreciate the information. I knew there had to be gluten consumption for the blood test, but I did not realize that also applied to biopsies.       Hi Im new to this game, so bear with me.  May through to December last year totally miserable, covered literally head to toe in the worst rash ever, itching like I just cant explain. Biopsy 6 weeks ago and Dapsone, which I seem to be tolerating OK so far.  The NHS is in permanent backlog so no result yet but just wanted to say hello to anyone else with this maddening condition.
