Watermelon

When I was a child I lived in Florida. We loved watermelons in the summertime! One day I decided (at about 7) that we dont get to buy it often enough so i decided to plant one of the watermelon seeds out of the last watermelon we were eating. I went out back, dug a hole and planted that little seed. Every morning i would wake up, look out that back window in anxious anticipation, and i expected i would see a watermelon grow over night.

Eventually I guess my mom felt bad for me because i woke up one morning. Walked to the back porch, looked out, there was a watermelon! Only it was not where i had planted my little seed lol! I figured that one out pretty quick (not because it grew overnight but because it was not in the right spot) but did not admit I knew she had placed it there. After all she was the one who taught me that if you do not believe in the toothfairy, you dont get money for you tooth so I acted as if I never knew just to keep those melons coming haha!

Reminds me of when I was a kid. I had heard the term "rock garden" and thought if I planted some pebbles they would grow into rocks. So I did, and my sister went out later and replaced these pebbles with bigger rocks. The next day I was so excited! "Mom! My rocks grew!!" Mom was in on the deception and told me to go water them some more. The next day they were bigger! It was about a week before they told me the truth, but as a four year old, I didn't believe them. I think I kept watering those rocks for half the summer.

Hehehe. When we look back on those things it just tickles us the simplicity of the way we viewed life. I wish I could see life that simply again.

Scott I also have different symptoms than most people. It affects me bad. Stomach ache, headache, nauseous, heart racing, whole body shaking, can't walk then my throat starts to close. It attacks my nervous system. The only thing that saves me is a 1/2 of Xanax...it calms down my nervous system

Scott Adams. I was dealing with a DR that didn't care about me being celiac. I repeatedly told him that I was celiac and is everything gluten-free. He put an acrylic lens from j&j. I called the company to ask about gluten and was told yes that the acrylic they use has gluten....then they back tracked immediately and stopped talking to me. The Dr didn't care that I was having issues. It took me 6 months and a lot of sickness to get it removed.... which can only happen within 6 months. The Dr that took it out said that it was fused and that's why I lost vision. If they would have removed it right away everything would be fine. He put in a silicone one that was gluten-free and I've had no issues at all in the other eye. Do not do acrylic!

Welcome @Martha Mitchell, I too would like to know more about your prior lenses, and especially about the potential of gluten in lenses. In theory this should not harm most celiacs, as the autoimmune reaction normally begins in the gut, however, in those who are super sensitive or have dermatitis herpetiformis it may be a potential issue.

It's most likely going to be a celiac disease diagnosis based on your blood test results, but wait for your doctor to give you a green light for going gluten-free, as they may want to do additional testing. This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):
