Medications & Gluten

I've been on the gluten free diet for almost 3.5 weeks. I've done really well but got hit pretty hard with a prescription pill that I took without thinking about. I had a major set-back for 3 days (migraine, cramps, etc.) I found out that pill had gluten the hard way so I'm trying to be very careful.I have another prescription I take that I'm not sure whether it's safe or not. We called the manufactorer and they said they do not use any gluten in the medication but they do process other med's in the plant that do. They will not guarantee there is no cross contamination though it's not likely. What do I do? Is this a risk I should take?

This is a very important med for me.

Thanks!

Oh, and any doubt I had that gluten was the culprit in my illness disapeared when I took that tiny pill and got terribly ill!

Do I have this right, that the 1st pill was verified to have gluten? (Hate to think that some other culprit is remaining in the shadows)

As far as the second pill, verified gluten-free w/ mnfctr, I'd take it w/ very little worry. My inclination would be that pharmaceutical CC should be far less likely than so many other CC sources.

Here's a useful site for both Rx & OTC drugs Open Original Shared Link

Hope you're doing well!

I've been told that finding gluten in pharmaceuticals would be rare these days. But, I'm not sure that's any consolation to you.

If you list the pill, perhaps someone here can offer you more information.

Hi,

Thank you for your responses. The med is the generic form of Fioricet. Both the manufacturer of the generic and brand name would not guarantee gluten free.

Your response on this matter is what I expect. You’ve had a similar episode years ago, but this one is lasting longer!

I'd like to clarify: Is the pain you describe in the area just below your chest constant, or does it only appear when you start moving?
