Upset- I Know That I Was Glutened

I know that sounds stupid.. why would someone be upset about NOT getting sick?? Well, in my messed-up head, I think of it as.. hey! this diet isn't working. I WANT it to work!! I am at the point where I think if this is really worth it?? I mean.. its NOT WORKING, so why should I have to deal with it?? I mean, sure, with some people it takes a while to digest and get it through your system, but I had it last night! Don't you think I would at least have a bad stomachache??

Try to calm down, I know, I know.. but I am just sooooo upset!!!

Okay.. here is what happened.. last night it was sort-of left-over my-mom-needs-to-get-groceries-so-eat-whatever-we-have night. So, me and my mom decided to try Trader Joes Chicken Taquitos. I asked my mom if I could have them. She said that she looked it up a while ago and it was gluten-free. So, I tried one. Then, this afternoon, I decided to have another one. Just because it is now a habit of mine, I looked at the ingredients. At the very bottom of the list is said Modified Food Starch, and Wheat Starch. Now, I know that there is some debate that wheat starch is supposed to be removed from the proteins, but no one really knows for sure what the companies do. And, also, the modified food starch was listed right before the wheat starch.. so isn't it most likely that the mfs came from wheat??

I know that it is a possibility that I did not get glutened.. but to me it seems like I did. But I am not getting SICK!!!!!!

Most likely over-reacting,

Lisa

Also, I didn't see the Trader Joes Chicken Taquitos on any gluten-free list.. even their own! They probably found out that they had it and took it off the list.

If it said wheat starch right on it then it for sure had gluten in it. However, some people do not get symptoms...doesn't mean the diet is not working. Some people get more sensitive to gluten as time goes on and some people just never get symptoms...normal is different for different people.

Just comes to show that things change and you always have to read the labels.

Remember, even if you do not feel the symptoms, you are still doing damage. And being gluten free will heal damage and prevent damage.

Modified food starch in the US is typically corn (but always call to check).

The wheat starch might not be completely gluten free.. but the amount might have been so small that you don't get noticeable symptoms from it. That's not unusual, not everybody is supersensitive. I bet if you continued to eat the taquitos for a few days that you would start to have symptoms though.

Whenever I start to get doubts, I dare myself to eat a sandwich as a test. So far, I never actually did. :P

I was glutened a couple months ago and nothing happened to me either. I was kind of upset that I didn't get sick because now I'm worried that I may be getting gluten and wouldn't know it. Some people do not have symptoms from one glutening, while others get really sick.

That's how I feel. I have probably been glutened so many times before, but I never knew that I ate it.

Yeah.. I don't think I would eat one either. :D

Yeah, I know. It just discourages me. I wish that I would at least get a little sick, just so I absolutely know for sure that this diet is working.

Much more relieved,

Lisa

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
