ARCHIVED Can You Please Describe Your Feeling Of Brain Fog?
Aerin328 replied to azmom3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who suffers "brain fog" as a primary symptom! (I just hope it clears up completely - I've only been gluten-free for 25 days, and it has improved some, but I'm also utterly frustrated that my mind is not working like it used to!) -
Kristi, actually I would really like a copy! I lived in China for half a year in college and now am involved in international business. I actually really want to return to China for an extended duration! But having recently been diagnosed w/ Celiac's disease I am terrified about avoiding gluten. I even speak Chinese and I'm afraid it will be difficult...

ARCHIVED Heartburn
Aerin328 replied to ekdumas19's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm looking at a bottle of Rolaids (standard chewable, peppermint flavored), one of the ingredients is "pre-gelatinized starch"... that sounds potentially glutenous! Does anyone know if this is actually safe? Also, does anyone have a problem w/ taking baking soda for heart burn? -
ARCHIVED How Long After Being Glutened Do You Feel Better?
Aerin328 replied to maemai's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
2 weeks seems to be the mean duration of recovery after being glutened, but multiple "glutenings" might prolong this recovery time. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free & Stevia Recipes
Aerin328 replied to esthesio-vivi's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Great question! I found a flurry of them on : Open Original Shared Link (Specifically, Open Original Shared Link But I'd also be interested to hear if anyone on the board has successful home-tested and tried recipes...... Stevia is wondrous! -
ARCHIVED I'm Fine, Then I Am Not...
Aerin328 replied to Chelle15's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, I've been experiencing this too. I just went Gluten-free a few weeks ago (after being very sick for 3 months) and only now am I starting to have times here and there where I feel more normal than not, and have energy. More often I feel flu-like sickness and "crappy all over." It alternates back and forth. Healing can take a long time, so I am just trying... -
STEVIA IS AWESOME! I read that they injected mice with 800 times the daily dose a human would consume and they had no health problems (for what that's worth). I spent $8 on one bottle of the powdered variety and I use it on everything... it's lasted over three months! And we can all use more fibre! The gluten-free and I are praying...

Most colleges have various meal plans. There is probably one available where she will have only very limited access to the college cafeteria but she will save $ ; the extra $ can then be used to buy food to cook at home in a controlled environment where it is easier to abstain from evil gluten.

Wendy's has a particularly "glutenous" connotation for me, as it was at Wendy's (after eating the fries, a burger, and chicken fillet) that I first became sick for the last 3.5 months w/ the illness I only recently know is Celiac! If Wendy's is glutenous enough to kick off this plague, I would guess the friest/ potatoe certainly could've done it to you....

ARCHIVED Celiac Or Not?
Aerin328 replied to mike2184's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Mike, I can't say whether or not you are Celiac, but I can at least tell you I've experienced similar symptoms. A few years ago I had a heat stroke in Cheng Du China and spent 4 days in a Chinese hospital. After the experience I felt like I had respiratory problems and my hands (and sometimes feet) would tingle and sometimes even go numb. After several months... -

ARCHIVED Villi Question
Aerin328 replied to ebrbetty's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
After reading the above post I checked my personal hygiene products for anything gluten-suspicious but all the ingredients look like they're in a different language. What to look out for in shampoo, toothpaste, deodarant etc. that could be gluten??? -
ARCHIVED Villi Question
Aerin328 replied to ebrbetty's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Betty, I'm in the same situation of Dr. induced confusion and frustration over my results. Everything for me was normal except for the Gliadin IgG (which was 57, normal is <20 I guess). I had one doctor say, "That number has to be in the hundreds for you to be celiac." Another said, "Oh yes, that is definitely high enough. Anything over 20 means you... -

ARCHIVED Celiac Awareness Organization?
Aerin328 replied to Aerin328's topic in Publications & Publicity
(Btw I'm sorry I posted this discussion in the incorrect forum area by mistake!) Rinne: Yes, I was very sick for three+ months and was recently diagnosed. I won't go into all the crazy details but it's the sickest I've ever been, missed almost a month of work, etc. This whole experience has made me want to bring better awareness to this wide-spread issue... -
Does there exist some kind of formal organization that promotes Celiac awareness in the public and to medical professionals? 1 in 133 people in the US have Celiac's disease, and until last month (when I was deathly ill) I had never heard of it (and my PCP did not understand it / even test for it) ... Is there some way we can publicly get involved...

ARCHIVED Dr.s Are Frustrating Me...
Aerin328 replied to num1habsfan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You are correct Tarnalberry, I stand corrected. What I meant to say was simply that there are MANY people who are not being helped by modern medicine. I did not mean to imply doctors are not doing a good job in general. It's just that I've seen way too many people go unhelped, and it's very frustrating. -
ARCHIVED Dr.s Are Frustrating Me...
Aerin328 replied to num1habsfan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think there are innumerable patients who have experienced similar frustrations as Tiffany mentions above. Doctors today are only human, it is true. They follow a set trained set of logical "Ifs"/"Thens" in an attempt to heal their patient's ailments. The truth is that doctor's are, regardless, unable to diagnose and solve millions and millions of patients... -
ARCHIVED I Am So Sad!
Aerin328 replied to mommyetb's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
So sorry to hear your child has Celiac! At least it is something you can control, and in doing so he can live a long healthy life. It is better to know what the problem is to have some influence over it than to be miserable for so long. Lymetoo is correct, at least it was caught early. And as a newly diagnosed Celiac myself, I am finding this is a wonderful... -
ARCHIVED Recently Diagnosed Celiac Wondering About Recovery Time?
Aerin328 replied to Aerin328's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
>It's only being "sentenced' to eating the way everyone should eat anyway. So true! My girlfriend also has a wheat-intolerance and we are both laughing at this sentence. What is a kinnikinnick donut? I'm dying for a donut ... does it taste anything like a "standard" donut? Also, you are drinking coffee I see -- have you had any trouble... -
ARCHIVED Recently Diagnosed Celiac Wondering About Recovery Time?
Aerin328 replied to Aerin328's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I usually know I'm dreaming as well! But I guess my subconscious had a message. (Clearly, you will never eat a McDonalds hamburger again). At first that statement sounds like a great loss... but in fact, being FORCED to not eat McDonalds (as well as other crap) or other sources of gluten is a Blessing. -

Not paranoid! Smart! I am also new to this and I think it's "normal" to so carefully read the labels. -
ARCHIVED Newbie Living In Alaska- Wanna Say Hello
Aerin328 replied to Yenni's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
AkJenny, hello! I am also new to this site, recently diagnosed Celiac (2 weeks ago). I don't have the experience that many of these wise forum members have, but so far I have found Outback to be most accomodating. In fact, if you mention you have gluten intolerance, their cooks will even scrape the grill and change their gloves. I hear they even have... -
ARCHIVED Recently Diagnosed Celiac Wondering About Recovery Time?
Aerin328 replied to Aerin328's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Ursula, thanks for the advice! I will look into getting some glucosamine sulfate and call my doctor about getting those vitamin and mineral levels checked. I just checked my personal care products, they appear to be OK... I hadn't even thought about the toaster... lol Kbtoyssni, thank you for advising your own timeline. At least it gives an idea of the... -
ARCHIVED Recently Diagnosed Celiac Wondering About Recovery Time?
Aerin328 replied to Aerin328's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks to all who have taken the time to respond, and so quickly. This site is a blessing! Thank you for the encouragement. It is really wonderful to be able to find people who understand the depth, difficulty, and complexity of this illness. In response to Ursula's comment, yes I am still young, I'm 26 years old... I can imagine now what even 26 years...
