  1. It should show up in the basic test, though the complete test includes not only the gene test but casein intolerance as well (which many celiacs seem to show up positive for). Most condiments and canned goods have gluten, yes, but it's case by case. How long does it take to notice a difference? That's a darn good question, and the answer is complicated...
  2. In fact, it can take longer. I'm 2.5 months into being gluten-free and the crazy burping is just starting to subside!
  3. Tracey, you are definitely not crazy. Believe me when I say I know exactly what you feel like and how absolutely frustrating it is to constantly be battling to feel any endurable semblance of "normal", and how disheartening it is that the majority of the world just does not understand. Once again, you are NOT alone! There are millions of us out there,...
  4. I received my results 2 weeks and 2 days from when I shipped them. Soon you will know, fear not!
  5. Sorry you're not feeling well! Not sure what to say except to trust your gut ( ) foremost!
  6. Carla, That's great to hear you have such a supportive husband. You deserve it!! (As I said before, you "convinced" me to get Enterolab testing) Thanks for the compliment... When Celiac hits it's hard to feel "good" about anything sometimes, especially about appearance which is the least important of all things! But anyway as you mentioned it I...
  7. Stef, as others have said, we've all been there. Just want to reiterate though: 1. You are not a crazy hypochondriac! There are MILLIONS out there like you. Millions... and just a small fraction of us are here on this site, always here to help. Feeling like you're not alone is a big step to feeling better about your situation (I know, as I am still a newbie...
  8. Carla, Their FAQ section says: "Follow up of an abnormal antigliadin antibody also can be done at 1-2 year intervals as a guide to dietary compliance, but remember that in the first year or two, the levels rarely go to normal, and sometimes, because of enhanced immune function, may rise for a time before ultimately trending down." FaithInScience...
  9. Thank you all for the replies. As always, it is so encouraging to hear from other people out there who (as you put it Valda ) have "gone before us in this journey." (Valda, I saw in your signature sensitivity to EMF's? omgosh...) Jayhawkmom, good luck with your endoscopy! I went to an upper GI doctor two weeks ago who said, "eat gluten...
  10. Yeah, my girlfriend (who also was just diagnosed Celiac, ironically!) agrees it's probably just a legal statement to cover their bums. But it still really makes me nervous! If you're reading this and trust (or don't trust) Arrowhead please comment... I'm just interested as to what other peoples' experiences have been. Thank you!
  11. Arrowhead just sent another reply to my inquiry, this one is more positive : "Arrowhead Mills takes the allergen issue quite seriously and approaches each product and product type systematically. Considerations which are important in reducing risk include personnel training, scheduling of runs, design of equipment, cleaning, GMPs, HACCP programs, development...
  12. I had been sick for 4 months. I had been "diagnosed" on 7/6 based on elevated blood antigliadin IgG level only. Today I received my (more conclusive) results from Enterolab, and they are POSITIVE! (See signature below for results!) I've been adjusting to the idea of being celiac since 7/6 but now it's actually hitting me for the first time with these tests...
  13. I wrote to Arrowhead about their Puffed Rice cereal which I have been consuming several times a day as a staple. I noticed on their packaging the "gluten free" comment had an asterix (*) next to it that stated, "please contact us regarding our gluten-free policy." Well I did, and this is what I got: "Unfortunately, at this time we are unable to state with...
  14. I've heard Arrowhead Mills is a respectable brand for gluten-free cereals (puffed rice, maple buckwheat flakes, etc.) and I've been eating them every day. Today I noticed an asterix (*) next to their gluten free comment on the packaging. The * comment said "contact us regarding our gluten-free policy for details." Is anyone aware of this "policy"? Is Arrowhead...
  15. From what I've heard Cara has it right! But just remember everyone is quite different and reaction intensities may vary.
  16. Just a thought to also perhaps consider testing with Enterolab (www.enterolab.com). They specialize in gluten-intolerance testing and I hear it can be more sensitive than blood testing. Just a note!
  17. I've actually had minor ecsema on my hands my whole life and was always aware that certain food caused it (namely for me, vanilla, maple, honey, chocolate, peanut butter, etc. maybe sugar too?). When I recently was struck down with the celiac saga starting in April, my hands got really bad! Since going gluten-free 6 weeks ago, my skin is improving again....
  18. That's terrible ! They are an oasis! Do you mean they intend to keep their gluten-free menu but they are "temporarily" recalling it to modify it?
  19. I'm a newbie at this but I've heard processed chocolate is often off limits b/c of cross contamination while "pure" chocolate is OK. I know in my own case chocolate still disrupts the fragile digestive track and I avoid it! Perhaps another poster has details?
  20. I'm a newbie at this too but I've read that you may able to reintroduce dairy after 8-12 months , when the villi have had a chance to heal up. (The villi produce the enzyme necessary to digest dairy, so if they are messed up, dairy intolerance can result)
  21. Aint that the sad truth! :/
  22. Thank god. lol (though high fructose corn syrup, and the dark syrup of any soda for that matter, is bad for the body in other ways!)
  23. Thanks for clarifying for us! As a newbie I was just staying away from the word as another "to be avoided." So as long as it JUST says "Maltodextrin" (with no mention to wheat or rye) on a form of US packaging it's OK, yes? Thanks again!
  24. Maltodextrin CAN be made from barley or other gluten containing grains (it usually is in fact in this country), but in some cases it is not. In general I think you have to avoid it. I'm not an expert but I'd say you could probably trust gluten-free chips if they are labelled as such... if you're not sure, it's usually easy to contact the company.
  25. Nate, Welcome! I would recommend visiting www.enterolab.com ; a lot of people on this site have been evaluated by this lab, which specializes in gluten intolerance.
