ARCHIVED Spaghetti Sauce Settles It
ekdumas19 replied to Offthegrid's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi! I love the Lays chips, I eat them whenever I find myself needing a carb b/c I am sick of eating salads all the time or if I am on the go. They run a close second to my all time favorite Cape Cod Potato Chips-I am a native Cape Codder! Do you like corn chips? I always have a bag of tostitos or comprable corn chip on hand to munch on too. For... -
ARCHIVED Flourless Pb/chocolate Chip Cookies
ekdumas19 replied to Joni63's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
They do spread quite a bit, so make them sort of on the smallish side and with lots of room in between. When I take them out, I usually let them cook a bit more on the cookie sheet. Surprisenly the crumble factor on these is not too too bad. Must be all the fat from the PB. When I moved into my apartment last year, I literally ate these for two days straight... -
ARCHIVED Spaghetti Sauce Settles It
ekdumas19 replied to Offthegrid's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
What brand of sauce was it? I have this problem too, I always feel gassy, bloated and sick after eating rice pasta and sauce, and its usually because I can't find any sauces that dont use soybean oil! Bertolli sauces actually use olive oil instead of soybean oil, which would make sense, helloooo Italian!! A few Classico ones are also soy-free, as well as... -
ARCHIVED Flourless Pb/chocolate Chip Cookies
ekdumas19 replied to Joni63's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi All! These are my FAVORITE cookies! My sister found the recipe for me a few years back on Epicurious.com and if I ever need to bring a dessert or am hosting a party I always make these. They are now my non-gluten free friends favorites as well. Some tips. Use the thickest pb you can find, and pref the crunchy kind. I am a fan of JIFF crunchy or Skippy... -
Hi! I ate at Mangiano's for a company lunch. Prior to arriving I found out that the vendor who was taking us out there, had called ahead and ordered family size portions of everything-and I couldnt have one dish he had selected. I thought I was to go hungry, but once they told the waiter and the manager came right out and spoke to me about options. They...

ARCHIVED New Gluten Free Cider!
ekdumas19 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am always on the lookout for more drinking options other than wine or mixed drinks. There is something about drinking out of a bottle at a bar, I miss it so much! I am a huge fan of Magner's the Irish Cider, but I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Harpoon, the proud makers of a good IPA and UFO, and brewed locally in Boston, have made their very own... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Restaurants In Boston
ekdumas19 replied to angel42's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Hi! For something not too expensive and pretty main stream, try Mangiano's. I always stayed away from this place because its a pasta chain so obviously gluten heavy. But when I went there to eat for a work lunch, I was pleasantly suprised that they offered gluten free pasta and a list of sauces I could and could not have. They brought out a salad just... -
I too went back to a gastro after being diagnosed with celiac disease 3 years prior. I had felt after my diagnosis but something still wasnt right. He recommended a biopsy because he was worried that because I never had one to begin with and only got diagnosed by blood work, that I wasnt really a celiac. And of course it came back negative. I was upset...

ARCHIVED Tostitos How Could You!
ekdumas19 replied to ekdumas19's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hmmm maybe stick with the Tostitos scoops? Or bite sized rounds? Those would be easy to tell apart. I don't really have a preference in terms of tortilla chips, but recently I have been getting into the blue corn ones--somebody makes a really good Blue Sesame corn chip, and Miguel's brand also makes a great one. But for me Tostitos always had the best balance... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Shop In Boston
ekdumas19 replied to f-starmach's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi! Whole Food's generally has a good selection, and even their own line of gluten free stuff called The Gluten Free Pantry. Great cookies and scones! But they carry gluten-free pasta, frozen breads, and everything is cleary labeled. I frequent the one in Brighton, but there is also one in Cambridge and one off of Mass Ave. near Symphony Hall. I also... -
ARCHIVED Tostitos How Could You!
ekdumas19 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So since I have been diagnosed, chips and salsa have been my go to snack food. Corn chips are delicious and have always been safe for me. But now Tostitos have have come out with chips made with flour, kind of along the lines of flour tortilla instead of corn but for chips. I think I need to buy a bag, and open them up just to see what they look like, and... -
I was totally put off by this article. It barely touched on the symptoms or the struggles of people with celiac disease. Eating even small traces of gluten entirely interupts my life, its not just a nuisance. And by saying that gluten free products are practically on every shelf, it makes it seem like its not big deal. Well its a big deal to me! I mean...

ARCHIVED My Sister Is Bloated All The Time...could It Be Celiac?
ekdumas19 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi alll, I am writing on behalf of my stubborn sister. I have been diagnosed with celiac disease for 5 years now, though none of my family appears to have it, and out of the four of them only one has been tested (It came out negative supposedly). So my older sister has been having bloating issues for awhile now. Every time she drinks a lot of beer, eats... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Article In Cape Cod Times Today....
ekdumas19 posted a topic in Publications & Publicity
Hi everyone! So my mom alerted me to an article in my hometown paper about celiac disease. It centers around a family having to de-gluten their Thanksgiving meal because somone was diagnosed a celiac. It's pretty accurate aside from wrongly stating that maltodextrin is unsafe(isn't made from barley in the US apparently). But it's a cute read and I am... -
Hi everyone So I consider myself somewhat an afficionado of gluten free bread. With 5 years of solid gluten free eating behind me I have tried most of the breads out there. This week I decided to order toaster covers-and decided to get a few other things from this allergy grocer site I was on. I ordered Sterk's gluten free italian bread and their hamburger...

Wow-it's probably the same one. Good to know though. I don't feel as bad now, because a lot of people didn't go and I hardly knew the guy anyway. But I guess it goes to show that there is no harm in asking......

Hi everyone! So right now I feel really guilty because at my job we have all these sales people that come in and take our department out to lunch. It is usually to restaurants where the menu is limited and the level of cross contamination is too high for me to really risk going. The only one I have attended is the one at Legal Seafood because I know they...

Does anyone know which ones are not safe? -
Hi All So does anyone ever have delayed symptoms from a glutening? I think that I might have been glutened on Friday night--but really didnt feel the effects till late Saturday night and then all of Sunday. Yesterday I woke up fine--but then 3 hours later my stomach was really bloated, I felt overly dehydrated, and I definitly had a little brain fog....

ARCHIVED Going To The Land Of Bread And Pasta...
ekdumas19 replied to JenKuz's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Hi! I went on a term abroad to Florence Italy and spent three months there. I thought I was going to have tons of problems and be hungry all the time-but it was the best I have ever eaten in my life! I lived with a old Italian house mom who once I shared with her my gluten free dining card translated into Italian-she was more than happy to help. The... -
So this week I started the Paleo Diet--not only to shed some pounds but to maybe figure out why after a few years on a celiac diet I still feel sick all the time. So I am on my fourth day now-with no cheating-and I feel as fat as EVER! I thought when you cut out carbs you rapidly lose!? Could I be eating too much fruit? Too many nuts? It's very discouraging...

I bought a six pack of the Bard's Beer at Blanchard's in Jamaica Plain. I am assuming the one in Allston also has it. It was good--definitly took me back to my beer drinking days. But the price --ouch 13 bucks for a six pack! That's like twice the price of a normal six pack......I guess you have to pay through the nose for things made with no gluten!!! -
Hi everyone So I think I am on my second glutening of the week here, and it is sooo frustrating, because I know its my fault for not being extra careful but I am just tired of eating with fear. So yesterday I was really craving chicken salad so got some from my local Coop. Now sometimes chicken salad has given me some problems in the past--but for...
