  1. I'm not sure where to put this message, but I've read over and over that many celiacs are lactose intolerant in the beginning and need to eliminate dairy for a few months. The dietician I was sent to said I could just take Lactaid before eating dairy and that would be fine. I have tried that and it seems to work. But I've been forgetting to take it lately...
  2. Thank you all so much for your input. I really wasn't making the connection to nutrition. So I'm going to focus on eating more nutritious foods instead of the gluten-free junk food as suggested. I'm also going to ask about the Omega 3's as suggested. I feel less panicked since reading your posts. Thank you for the support. Nikki
  3. I really miss rice krispie treats. Does any know of a gluten-free cereal that is like rice krispies? I have made treats with fruity pebbles, but they are so sweet. Thanks, Nikki
  4. I really miss angel food cake and have bought this mix, but haven't made it yet. Angel food cakes can be tricky sometime, so I was wondering if there are any tricks to this. The box says to use an aluminum tube pan and I don't have one, so that's what is delaying me. I had planned on using a loaf pan. Any suggestions? Nikki

    ARCHIVED Baffled

Yes, I know what you are talking about. It feels like a tennis ball is lodged under your rib cage. I was recently diagnosed with Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction. It is a horrible pain under the rib cage that travels to my back. I would then vomit sometimes. They figured out what was wrong by doing blood work and finding elevated liver and pancreatic enzymes...
  6. I was just about to post a question about this when I saw this thread. I have had night sweats the past 3 or 4 nights. I've only been gluten-free for a little over 2 weeks now and I'm wondering if it's a detox thing. As far as I know (and I'm still learning) I have not gluten-ed myself. I have not had night sweats for a few years until now and was wondering...
  7. Hi, I'm newly diagnosed and have been gluten-free for a little over 2 weeks now. I think I'm still in shock and I'm wondering if I'm depressed. The thing that's worrying me the most is that I'm eating like crazy. It's all gluten free stuff like rice cakes, rice crackers, and gluten-free candy. It's even low fat stuff (I'm supposed to be on a low fat diet...
  8. Is that just epicurious.com?
  9. Does anyone know any websites or books for lower fat gluten free recipes? With regular recipes you can substitute ingredients to lower the fat, but I've heard it's not that easy with gluten free recipes-in particular, cakes, pies, cookies, etc. I have "Wheat free, gluten free, reduced calorie cookbook" by Connie Sarros. But I'm hoping for more options...
  10. I was just diagnosed last week and am taking prenatal vitamins since I'm breastfeeding. No where on the bottle is there a phone number or website. They are Spring Valley prenatal vitamins that I got from Walmart. Any suggestions on finding out if they are gluten-free. I met with a dietician this week who thinks I'm malnurished and wants me to be sure...
  11. What is wrong with McDondald's salads? Especially if you use your own salad dressing. Almost every salad on their gluten-free menu is not available except ceasar wihout chicken (why without?) and the side salad. I'm brand new-just diagnosed last week, so please be patient with my ignorance. Thanks Nikki
  12. Hi, I need cookbooks with nutrition information. I have to watch my fat grams due to another problem with my digestive ducts. (They actually found the celiac by accident when they were doing an endoscopy for my digestive ducts.) I thought Gluten-free Gourmet healthy and fast would have nutrition info and it doesn't! And some reviewers have said that...
  13. I'm new here so how do I find this blog. I'd like to see that. Also how do I find the Sinamon popcorn you are all talking about. Thanks, Nikki8
