ARCHIVED Weight Watchers "truth About Carbs"
angel-jd1 replied to SharonF's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Like I said before in my previous post (see above quote). When I called they said that gluten ingredients may not be added to the product (no gluten in the actual ingredient list) HOWEVER it may be contaminated due to processing on the same lines, in the same area etc. Therefore would not be, in their standards, gluten free. They are not willing to put it... -
ARCHIVED Kraft South Beach Diet Frozen Dinners
angel-jd1 replied to angel-jd1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I went ahead and called Kraft this morning. Same labeling policy of course applies to these dinners as any others. If I am reading the label correctly the savory beef with cheesy broccoli is a safe choice. YEAH!!! If any of you are at the store, pick up a box and help me read, the label is very long. I want to be sure it is safe by having others read... -

ARCHIVED Kraft South Beach Diet Frozen Dinners
angel-jd1 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was grocery shopping tonight and saw a new product from Kraft. They are South Beach Diet Frozen dinners. Curosity got to me and I picked them up to read. Majority of them have gluten in them, but possibly have found one without. It was a savory beef with cheese broccoli. It had no allergen info listed (which usually does when there is an allergen in the... -

ARCHIVED Duncan Hines Brownies
angel-jd1 replied to Mya's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If this person needs help, then let's help them instead of making them feel like a heel. The brownie mix is made with wheat flour which is not allowed on the gluten free diet. Hope that helps ya. -Jessica -
ARCHIVED Foods To Bring To A Local Support Group Meeting?
angel-jd1 replied to kactuskandee's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Kandee- most of the places responded very quickly (maybe 3 weeks to get the stuff to my house) others took a little longer. I had a great deal of it to take to the 1st meeting, then had a little more to take to the 2nd, but we meet every month. You might want to wait until your next meeting. That would give you ample time to get things all together. ... -
You have to contact Scott for that. -Jessica

ARCHIVED Foods To Bring To A Local Support Group Meeting?
angel-jd1 replied to kactuskandee's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Kandee- I just emailed them asking them if they ever donated to celiac support groups for a taste testing meeting. They all replied back with wonderful results. The list I provided you is companies who SENT things, there were only a couple who rejected me and those are not on that list. I was just SURE the UPS man was going to hate me by the time I got... -

No offence, but I don't think these large companies are going to lie. They have too much at risk. Some fries do have flour, but the companies will tell you that such as sonic drive in. I called them about a year ago and they were very honest and said their fries were coated. -Jessica

ARCHIVED Bringing Your Own Items To Restaurants?

I know I have seen a saltine cracker in some shakers in Mom and pop type places. It helps absorb moisture. I dont' take my own salt and pepper to places. For me, those things are not that necessary. -Jessica -
ARCHIVED Are Oats Gluten Free?
angel-jd1 replied to lizjay's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
There are varied levels of damage, NOT varied levels of celiac disease. It is a yes/no type thing. Sorry. Many people have no symptoms at all and are still doing damage to their bodies. -Jessica -

I have heard that when you go to another country, if you have a doctors note, that you can bring in food IF it is for a medical condition. You might check up on this. Sounds like you have your work cut out for you. Are they doing it at a resort or something? Maybe you can find out where and call the chef yourself, and bypass bridezilla. -Jessica

ARCHIVED Foods To Bring To A Local Support Group Meeting?
angel-jd1 replied to kactuskandee's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
We had a new group start locally and I called a TON of companies and got gluten free product samples. Each family got a TON of stuff to take home and try. You might want to try that for your next meeting. All of the suppliers were more than generous. I will look up my list of companies that donated in case you want to try that. It was a lot of fun and gave... -

Traveling to another country for a wedding would be hard. Having a bridezilla on the loose would make things even worse!! I would suggest trying to pack some things in your suitcase to take over with you. Try to pack some things like Thai kitchen noodles, peanutbutter, nuts, some crackers (love blue diamond nut thins), things that are non perishable...

Identical twins means you have EXACTLY the same genes. That means that she has the gene for celiac. She may not have had an environmental trigger to set it into action OR she could be asymptomatic. Either way she really should get tested because she has the genes. -Jessica -
A doctor tried to put me on prozac before my diagnosis. He thought I was depressed . I told him the only reason I would be depressed was because he couldn't figure out what was wrong with me!! Needless to say I didn't go on the prozac and was diagnosed by another doc. I sent him pleanty of reading material on celiac disease. -Jessica
