ARCHIVED I'm Starting To See Improvement
ami27 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am so excited to be able to actually say this. I'm feeling better. I have more energy. I have more good days than bad. My hair stopped falling out. My hair is actually growing back. When I got my hair cut yesterday after she blew it dry I noticed all these little hairs sticking up. That is new hair growth!!! When I was younger I always had thick, pretty... -
I am a software developer and the mom of 2 boys ages 8 & 11. My fiance is an artist and entrepreneur. He has owned his own business for over 13 years. Ami

I did this for 10 days back in October '06. I never felt better. It was easier than I thought too. I still cooked meals for my family and was never tempted to eat while on the fast. I lost 12 lbs in those 10 days. I slowly gained it back though when I started eating gluten free. This was the beginning for me to figure out that gluten was not good for me....

ARCHIVED How Do You Deal With Other People's Reaction
ami27 replied to ami27's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks everyone. And thanks Nancy for the soundbite. I'm definitely going to use it I do chalk this up to her not understanding. I don't think she means to be insensitive...it's just ignorance of the subject. Luckily the waitress was awesome. She came back and told me that she told every person in the kitchen thtat it was very important to take care of my... -
ARCHIVED How Do You Deal With Other People's Reaction
ami27 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It has always bugged me for people to concern themselves with what I'm eating. Now that I have to be so careful it bugs me even more. Saturday night we went out to dinner with another couple. We went to a movie and to Outback. This friend is a really close friend so I told her about the testing that I had done and that it came back negative. I also told her... -
ARCHIVED Is It Possible To Have A Reaction From Handling Gluten Food
ami27 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I made cookies last night that were definitely not gluten-free. They were pre-made refrigerated dough, that you just break off and bake. Afterwards I had a headache which I still have today. I feel really bad today and am wondering if I could have been glutened by just handling the dough? Ami -
ARCHIVED Is There Anything That Can Be Done To Speed Up
ami27 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I bought some Udo's Choice Enzyme Blend. I've taken 2 today and didn't read the ingredients carefully enough. Not sure how I missed it, but it has barley malt in it So I have spent most of the day in bed today. I'm glad it's Saturday at least. But, at the same time, I hate wasting my whole weekend recovering from this mistake. Is there any way to get it... -
I drink water (filtered and bottled) and black coffee. On a rare occasion I'll drink sweet tea that I make at home. But that's very rare. I usually have a cup of coffee and water the rest of the day. Ami

Yes I have been tested for both food allergies and airborn allergens. The only thing I tested positive for was oats and a few spices (thyme, nutmeg and cloves). Ami

Thanks for the info. I know I need to add more to my diet. I was just in panic mode thinking everything was making me ill so I justed picked a few things to eat for a few days to see if things would settle down. I did make the rice with a broth I made out of water, carrots, celery, garlic and onions. Not a lot of veggies, but at least a little. Today I will...

For the past 2 days I have only eaten long grain brown rice, chicken, 2 apples and a handful of cherries. I'm scared to eat anything. I was going to see if I could stop reacting and then slowly add one thing back in at a time. I really think I started having a problem with dairy first then corn and eggs. I was eating a scrabled egg on a corn tortilla for...

I have stated before that the first month or so going gluten free I felt great. Then I seemed to be reacting to dairy. Now it seems I'm reacting to everything I eat. I'm currently only eating chicken and brown rice. I'm not necessarily having GI issues. But sinus/allergy issues. I was recently tested for food and airborn allergies which all came back negative...

Karen, Thanks for the info. And you are right I've only been gluten free since the day after T-giving. I was eating out, but have stopped that too. I only eat at home and I take my lunch to work. Both of my boys got A honor roll so I told them I'd take them to Chili's as a treat. We went last night and I sat there and drank water while they all ate. It...

I'll try that. I have been eating eggs in the morning. I will stop that along with the corn tortillas. I don't consume soy so that shouldn't be too difficult. I really want to feel better. I was just discussing with my fiance' that I'm going to try only eating fish, chicken, rice, veggies and fruit and see how I feel. It's just really frustrating to have...

I felt so good when I first went gluten free. Now I'm back to being irritable, weak feeling, fatigued, etc. I'm reading that is very common. It doesn't make me feel any better or know what to do. I've cut out dairy in addition to the gluten. I'm still not any better. So it has to be something else in addition to dairy. How would I go about learning how to...

ami27 replied to kbabe1968's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm not sure about the liquid iron, but I use DaVinci Laboratories of Vermont Sublingual B12+ It says it is free of citrus, corn, egg, gluten, milk, ric, sodium, soy, wheat, yeast added starches, synthetic dyes, artificial flavorings and preservatives. I got it at the vitamin shoppe. Hope that helps. Ami -
ARCHIVED Felt Better For A Month, Back To Feeling Bad Again
ami27 replied to ami27's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I believe you are right. I have just been more resistent to cut out dairy as well as gluten, but looks like I have to. I at least have to try and see if I feel better. I'm also contemplating the Enterolab tests. I'm trying to decide if I really want to spend the money, but part of me thinks I would believe it more if I saw test results. I'm still doing the... -
ARCHIVED Felt Better For A Month, Back To Feeling Bad Again
ami27 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I felt great when I first went gluten free. Now I'm back to feeling bad most of the time even though I'm still eating the same gluten free diet Maybe this isn't what is really wrong with me?? I'm really confused now. After the episode I had with the cottage cheese I'm thinking it's a milk intolerance. I'm not sure where to begin to eliminate that other... -
ARCHIVED Not Sure What To Think About This Reaction
ami27 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
As I've stated before I have gone gluten free as I believe it's a problem for me. The 2 blood tests my doc did came back negative. I've been gluten free since the day after Thanksgiving. Except a couple of times I think I was accidently glutened. Yesterday I ate some cottage cheese and fruit. I felt overwhelmingly tired almost immediately afterwards. I layed... -
ARCHIVED Are Chronic Sinus Infections Associated With Celiac?
ami27 replied to ami27's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for all the replies and advice. This time I am taking a round of antibiotics which I really dislike doing. But, I also have a netti pot which I will find and start using again. I used to use this, but without much luck. Maybe now that I'm gluten free it will be more helpful. I really think gluten has been what has caused me so many issues for so long... -
ARCHIVED Are Chronic Sinus Infections Associated With Celiac?
ami27 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm not sure which category I fit in 'cause my bloodwork came back negative from my doctor. I had already been 2 weeks or more gluten free and I don't trust the results. I know I feel better when I don't eat gluten. I have been feeling bad for over a week and finally went to the doctor yesterday. I have a sinus infection and a middle ear infection. I get... -
ARCHIVED I'm Not Sure What's Going On With Me
ami27 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have not felt 'right' since I gave birth to my second child 8 years ago last Sunday (12/17/98). I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when he was about 18 months old. I have gained weight and not been able to lose it no matter how hard I try even when my thryoid was under control. Then about 2 years ago I fell skating and broke my ankle, dislocated my elbow...
