  1. I ate something about three days ago, I do not know what, but the depression and rage came back with a vengance. I've been gluten free for almost three months now and thankfully the terrible depression and rage went away . . . until now. I've narrowed it down to either the over the counter pain reliever that TopCare swears is gluten free or some kind of...
  2. I know when he underwent the original surgery they removed about a third of his stomach. The second go around I believe was in the same place. A doctor who did a scope thought that the problem, this was in 87, was that the first surgery had left too clear a path for the bile ducts in the stomach and that was what caused the last round of ulcers. I now...
  3. Thanks for sharing. It kind of reminds me of bearskins and stones something when I think about the medical community. What will we know twenty years from now we don't know now? Our theory was they Dad had contracted Hep C from a blood transfusion a year and a half prior to his death. They transfused him after he lost a fair amount of blood from the...
  4. I discovered last month that Vons stocks some gluten free items. There is this little section of the baking aisle in our local Vons with gluten free cake and muffin mixes and flours and things like Almond Milk. They also stock a couple of the special gluten-free cereal brands in their cereal aisle. When I saw the little section in the baking aisle though...
  5. I read a Celiac Disease statistic somewhere, don't remember where that obesity is almost as common as being too thin. I'm about 80 lbs overweight but I was severly anemic and vitamin deficient when diagnosed. I was told if I lost weight all my problems would disappear. There is still a lot that's not known it appears about why gluten intolerance affects...
  6. I wouldn't eat it. I also won't eat anything that uses the wording "Natural Flavors" or "Starch" or "Spices" on the ingredient label. I still see way too many foods out there that have no allergan information on the label. It's just not worth the chance for me personally. I've been "accidentally" glutened by root beer, asprin and a turkey roll so far...
  7. I'm trying to solve a family medical mystery. Any theories would be appreciated. My father was diagnosed with bleeding ulcers in the early 70's, had surgery etc. He began to have symptoms of bleeding ulcers again in the late 80's. It is now known that ulcers are caused by a type of bacteria, Helicobacter pylori in the intestine. Most people have this...
  8. It's okay, my body got even with them. After they positioned the needle and took the first biopsy they looked at it under the microscope and decided they didn't have enough of a sample. When they told me they were going to take another sample my body just went. I went into a cold sweat and thought I was going to throw up and I started shaking so bad...
  9. I can't believe I just took a poop survey It someone had told me a year ago . . .
  10. I'm an office manager. I seal a lot of envelopes in a week. I found once I got a moistener for the big envelopes and self sealing #10's the remaining symptoms I had went away. The glue in the envelopes I was licking were a problem. I'm told many of the glues they use for that contain glutens. It's like detective work I swear Violet
  11. I'm so sorry you're going through so much. I seem to recall a couple threads here somehwere that helped me on what people were eating with sample menues. I eat rice cakes with peanut butter a lot. Trix believe it or not is gluten free. Hardboiled eggs are a great little compact food as are eggs of any kind as long as you're not allergic. Fruits are...
  12. I don't understand it either. I doubt I've dropped more than five pounds since this started, but everything just seems easier to do now. I don't feel as heavy or have as hard a time getting out of a chair or off the floor, things like that. Anything physical is easier to do now. Everything is easier now. I'm glad we're both feeling better
  13. Wait wait wait, medication? What medication? You got drugs? Oh thats's so unfair. They used a local that was supposed to numb the pain, but the first time they inserted the needle I screamed. It was like a white hot poker going into my back. They're response "You can't really feel that, we numbed it." After some more screaming on my part they...
  14. It's pretty unreal all right I've had symptoms of Celiac probably off and on my whole life. It seems the periods where it was most active where when I was undergoing prolonged stress of some king. About ten years ago I went through a half dozen doctors trying to find a cause for bouts of intense nausea and severe joint pain. I gave up after a year of...
  15. I was diagnosed back in 2000 through a kidney biopsy with Thin Basement Membrane Disease. I was told it was a benign condition, but that I would probably continue to pass blood cells and protein in my urine for the rest of my life. There was no "cure" and no real treatment beyond trying to keep my blood pressure stable, which it pretty much is. The doctors...
  16. I am just getting over a sever reaction to Stevia. I bought a box of NOW packets at the organic store. The only sugar I use is in my morning coffee. I thought it would be great to replace that with Stevia and it's "benefits". This reaction is beyond brain fog, it's almost psychotropic, along with extreme exhaustion and a bronchitis attack. Stevia is...
  17. Hi Chaty. I'm new here. I've been gluten free two months or so, maybe longer. Mine was a gradual descent into gluten-free as I kept accidentally glutening myself the first few weeks, LOL. I had no clue my back pain was in any way tied to the gluten intolerance until one day last week when my sciatica started to act up. That was when it hit me that...
  18. Hi Judith. I'm Violet. What part of IE are you in? I live up in Big Bear. Sort of IE. I'm single, 44, no kids. Diagnosed with a combination of blood tests, enterolab tests and medical history. I'm gluten free over two months now.
