ARCHIVED Coffee?
VioletBlue replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Oh well poop. Just burst my bubble why don't you? I buy the really good stuff and drink only espresso. So that dark dark brew actually contains LESS caffine? Uggggg. Well, I still prefer the taste, particularly since 2/3 of what I drink it decaf. Only way I've ever found to make decaf drinkable. -
ARCHIVED Marshall Protocol?
VioletBlue replied to HawkFire's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
FYI. Dr Trevor Marshall has no medical degree. As near as anyone can tell his PhD is in electrical engineering. He has no background in medicine or medical research and can point to no medical trials providing any of his claims. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Can Corn Make You Feel Bloated?
VioletBlue replied to LoveBeingATwin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'll tell you my story. It may or may not help I went gluten-free back in December. Things were initially great, the diarrhea stopped, some things got dramatically better in a matter of days, other symptoms took and are taking longer to resolve themselves. But a couple weeks ago the diarrhea came back. It wasn't as bad as before, or as often, but... -
ARCHIVED Looking For A gluten-free, Corn Free Wrap Recipe
VioletBlue posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I've been experimenting with flours trying to find a way to make gluten-free wraps. I can't have corn, so that's out as an option. I can handle small amounts of corn starch or corn syrup or the like, but corn tortillas, chips, popcorn now go straight through me. I wound up last weekend using a mixture of potato, tapioca, rice and garfava flour and adding... -
ARCHIVED Do You Eat Out? - Poll!
VioletBlue replied to Nantzie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Before going gluten free I probably did take out two or three times a week. I'd get something from the local deli for lunch or place a take out order for pizza or Chinese food to pick up on my way home after work. I live in a small resort town and there are no gluten free restaurants, not even chain restaurants with gluten-free menus. I have no faith... -
ARCHIVED Where To Get Light Buckwheat Flour
VioletBlue replied to naturalbaker's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Did you try asking the organic store if they could order some for you? That is what I did last week. They have a source for it and will call me when it comes in. There are also a couple different options for buckwheat flour on amazon .com. violet -
I second that. I only "experiment" once or twice a week now if that. I do that in case whatever it is doesn't agree with me, and because I just can't take the disappointment if multiple somethings don't work. I think we need to be as kind to ourselves as possible while navigating this huge freaking learning curve we've been handed. If something works...

ARCHIVED Eeek!
VioletBlue replied to Minwaazhin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I second the Peter Green book. I just bought it off Amazon and I can't put it down. Granted someone with Celiac would probably not find it so fascinating. But it's well written and easy to understand so far. violet -
ARCHIVED In Hell
VioletBlue replied to newyorkdave's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I feel much better now. I spent the first month after going gluten free crying. Guess it's not just a girl thing after all As for sexual desire, that had been non-existent for over six months prior anyway because I was so physically ill, so I didn't notice. That returns by the way. At least that's been my experience. The irratability finally went... -
ARCHIVED Accidentally Glutened
VioletBlue replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
One of the symptoms of an accidental glutening for me is back pain. It usually comes 24 to 48 hours or so after the glutening though, after the diahrea has long gone. Kind of a one two punch. I've also come to realize the sciatica I've had most of my life is part of that as well. For me it starts out as sciatica in the lower back and travels down one... -
I've had it my whole life as near as I can remember. I had no idea until a few years ago when I read something about it and realized I had it. It was just there as far back as I can remember. The sound changes, but gluten doesn't seem to affect it one way or another. I'm so accustsom to the ringing it's background noise to me. I suppose if it ever stopped...

ARCHIVED Thai Kitchen Soups
VioletBlue replied to kbabe1968's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I love Thai Kitchen. I buy the big box of rice noodles to make stir fries and I buy the small individual packets with rice noddles and seasoning to take to work for lunch. They also have a gluten free sweet red chili sauce that I love! I haven't found many other oriental sauces that are gluten-free so this goes on everything lately, LOL. violet -
ARCHIVED Dizzy,tired
VioletBlue replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm curious as to what you mean by "tired eyes"? One of my sisters was having trouble keeping her eye lids open after say three in the afternoon. She wasn't necessarily exhausted or sleepy, but just unable to keep her eye lids open. About two years ago her doctor diagnosed a type of auto immune syndrom that causes that. I thought that was somewhat odd... -
ARCHIVED Is This An Allergy?
VioletBlue replied to LoveBeingATwin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've never been able to take the non drowsy meds either, but Claritan works wonders for me with itching. I'm not quite sure what's bothering me either as I've gone through and replaced all the skin care and hair care with gluten-free stuff. Other than the itching I don't have any other symptoms. My only thought is that it has to do with vitamin and mineral... -
I was pleasantly surprised when I bought some gluten-free frozen bagels at the Organic Store awhile back. I've taken to slicing them in three and toasting them rather than just in half because they're so dense. But the taste is pretty good. I'll keep an eye out for the flax seed bread. violet

It's not so much that my siblings treat me like a hypochondriac but rather like I'm adopted. My genes couldn's possibly be the same as thiers I'm the youngest so I know they all saw me come home from the hospital after Mom's C-section. HELLO. I have one sister who is lactose intolerance, another sister with a history of infertiity miscarriages and other...

ARCHIVED Getting Life Insurance With A Diagnosis Of Celiac
VioletBlue replied to shelby1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'll preface this by saying I haven't sold health home or auto insurance for four years, so I'm a little out of date. If it's group health insurance through your employer they cannot turn you down for the group plan. That has not changed. They can't turn your dependents down either. When they agreed to insure the company, they agreed to insure all qualified... -
Ahhhhh, it never would have occured to me to drink it warm. That would be right up there with drinking warm milk I would think, bleeech. I pull mine out of the frig to drink or pour over ice. The texture wasn't bad and it has a nice chocolate flavor. violet
-
I've only tried the chocolate. But then why would anyone want any other flavor? Sorry, I'm a confirmed chocoholic. I kind of was hesitant at first too considering the price, but the taste is pretty darn good. I keep it around to have a quick meal for those days when I cannot figure out what to have, or for a quick breakfast on the go. violet

ARCHIVED Brain-fog
VioletBlue replied to Moscow's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You hit on something Heather that just occurred to me this morning. The last couple days I've been so spacey and tired. I've been gluten free about three months. This morning I was sitting here at the computer contemplating the distance between my brain and my fingers - hard to explain - when it hit me that I'd felt this way once before. Several years... -
ARCHIVED Pork Digestive Systems Of Pigs... Does It Remove Gluten?
VioletBlue replied to HawkFire's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Religion can light fires on any board. I should know, I've lit a few in my day. Fortunately for y'all I'm a whole lot more mellow these days violet -
ARCHIVED I'm New, Confused, And Hoping For Guidance!
VioletBlue replied to woolwhippet's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Lenore. I too could stand to loose a few pounds. The biggest improvement I've seen to so far is that the bloating has mostly stopped. Clothes fit better now because I'm the same size from one day to the next, LOL. I've lost a few pounds since being diagnosed. I think there is something to the idea that there's a link for some people between being... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerance & Ulcers?
VioletBlue replied to VioletBlue's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I appreciate all your responses. You've given me some things to consider. I think I'm on the right track. I am feeling a little like an adopted step sister these days. My siblings don't want to hear about Celiac Disease, or genetics or family history. It's as if we don't share the same genes or something. Anyway, thanks for the responses. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease And Mental Health Dx's
VioletBlue replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have suffered from depression my entire life as well as PTSD after my parents deaths. I've been gluten-free almost three months now. The difference is night and day. It is hard to put into words how things changed, and the change is somewhat gradual. You may not even notice at first or realize. Very simple things that would have driven me down into... -
ARCHIVED Bored With Food!
VioletBlue replied to LoveBeingATwin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I used to make an awsome chicken pot pie. I haven't tried it since going gluten free however. How do you handle the crust? The rest is gluten-free, but I'm stumbling on the whole crust thing which for me is a big part of a chicken pot pie. The crust was another one of those things it took me several tries to finally get right . . . just before I went...
