mouth replied to Jenybeen's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Good luck, he probably does need it.. It won't or can't hurt anything.. My daughter had p/t and o/t as a young child.. she started p/t at about a year.. I never heard of a lack of iron causing loss of appetite. It can cause constipation however.. Um, what else.. ok Wellshire farms makes gluten-free chicken nuggets, in the shape of dinosaurs. I also... -
ARCHIVED Can Anyone Help?
mouth replied to tj1604's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi, It could also possibly be something in the formula.. other than the iron. Her bowels smelled bad till about 5 or 6. Even when she went off the formula, she ocassionally had it.. She still does on ocassion, but not like b4. My daughter was never symptomatic- except the chronic constipation. Good luck . LYnn -
ARCHIVED Newbie Gluten Questions...should We Do The Tests?
mouth replied to QTpieglutenbaby's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Ok, on oats, the problem is that usually oats are processed where wheat is processed. BUT, you CAN get gluten-free oats. I believe Bob's Red Mills does.. They don't actually gluten in them its cross contamination.. I had the same thing.. My daughter loves kix, and cant have it because of possible cross contamination. good luck again lynn -

I have been thinking off getting one for my daughter as well for the same reasons. Medication has to be watched as well as foods. have you started a safe meds list? that is really important.. medications are damaging also. vvvvvvvvvglgl lynn -
ARCHIVED To Start School Or Not To Start School
mouth replied to JennyC's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi, I would not worry too much about it.. because the kids will grow up with him and get used to the idea that he needs a special diet. My daughter had a harder time since she was already in middle school.. In the beginning she kept breaking her diet. Then she finally told her friends, and they all watch out and make sure she doesn't eat anything that... -
ARCHIVED I Got The Gene Test Back For Daughter
mouth replied to TrillumHunter's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am sorry to say that my daughter hasn't had the HLA'S. her doctor for some reason thought my insurance wouldnt cover it. well if found out it is and that means more blood work for her.. You need to do the endoscopy- for 1 reason- if only to follow up. it is to check to see if the damage the glutens caused is getting any better. my daughter was not happy... -
ARCHIVED Newbie Gluten Questions...should We Do The Tests?
mouth replied to QTpieglutenbaby's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi, Here is the thing. ONce you take away the gluten, the test results will be wrong.. because you have already removed the offensive that would give positive results. you would have to reglutenize your child, and have the tests done. the most simple is blood work and an endoscopy which only takes 10 minutes, and they dont remember it at all and it doesnt... -
ARCHIVED Can Anyone Help?
mouth replied to tj1604's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi for starters, being in canada doesn't make any difference.. In fact, you will be able to identify gluten-free foods easier than in the US.. I am sorry to say this, but dont take the gluten away from him!!! Because if you do they can not test him-- the results will be wrong!!!!! The most basic is blood work, then an endoscopy that... -

Hi Jenni Ok, no fruit or veggies? how about the fruit bars that are like fruit snacks? how about trying salad? I am small, but my daughter was realllllllly small.. they were classifying her as FTT.. Her blood work was positive since she was 4, but her biopsies were negative. The 1st 2 were definitively negative, where as the 3rd was in... -

Dear Andi, Have you thought about taking him to a Peds GI? there it sounds to me.There could be maybe something else going on . The chiro may be right. There could be a problem between his stomach and his digestive tract.. Maybe a blockage or something? I don't want to scare you, but you never know. ARCHIVED Numbers Still Elevated?
mouth replied to crittermom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I use All Free & Clear.. They list everything on there. And I am finding out that almost every company has been very helpful either in emails or on the phone.. So I spend lots of time doing both. I use Pamolive dish soap, and it doesnt seem to bother my daughter at all. If you find a dish soap that is definitely gluten-free please let me know..... -

Dear Barb, HI, It sounds like you are working your butt off just like the rest of us.. It can take a really long time for the numbers to go down.. My friend it took 3 years to get her daughters numbers down.. There were other mitigating problems.. w/processed foods- even gluten-free ones. Any way, you use an endocrinologist? I use a GI, you might be... -
ARCHIVED Numbers Still Elevated?
mouth replied to crittermom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Dear Melissa, Hi, from what I have been learning, it depends on the child. My daughters numbers were well above the 100 level at 3 months after diagnosis. I dont know exactly, because the lab at the hospital we use just says above 100. That in itself is very depressing.. But, at the 6 month test, her numbers started to go down. She was down to 6... -

Hi Andie I am glad to hear that your son is feeling better. Do you warn the other parents of what your son CAN NOT eat? Sometimes a child might try to say I cant have it, and might be embarrassed to tell. I had this problem with my daughter when she started her gluten-free diet 8 months ago.. Luckily, she is non-symptomatic- so far. Her numbers are... -
ARCHIVED Antibiotics?
mouth replied to jsdawson's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That is a good idea about Costco. But you have to be careful. Some medications you can not eat yougart with them, because it can bind them and they will not work.. I learned that from my trusted pharmacist.. The also give out those things with the side affects- which i no longer read unless i dont feel ok after taking the med. Some of the print outs will... -
