  1. I don't have the book, but I think that is very interesting... I would be interested in having that information as well
  2. Unfourtunately, different labs have different reference ranges (at least for the tTg test anyway) so it is hard to tell. It seems like you have the gene for celiac disease. Once the gene is triggered on, you start to get sick.
  3. Intestinal damage can still occur without symptoms. I believe it is called silent celiac disease. Sorry if you have said before, but have you been tested?
  4. Sorry if some of this stuff has already been mentioned but this is what I eat for lunch at university, but I have access to a microwave. Amy's gluten-free dinners Open Original Shared Link Thai Kitchen gluten-free dinners Open Original Shared Link Left overs from dinner the night before Tinkyada spiral noodles with Herbed Tomato & Wine Ragu sauce...
  5. That makes sence... If you eat something that you are allergic to, it would make sence that it would slow the healing process. The body should focus on healing; however, it makes sence that eating foods that you are intolerant to or not getting enough rest would delay the healing process. It's really annoying that the most common food allergins are...
  6. Based on those results, I would say that your son definatley has an intolerance to gluten and he could very likely have celiac disease (It may just be in the beggining stages). I would recommend getting the tissue transglutamase test (tTg) which is highly specific for celiac disease. However, the results will not be accurate if your son is on the gluten-free...
  7. My doctor sort of explained to me that having celiac caused my IBS. He said that my intestines are all irritated now from having celiac, but the IBS didn't go away when I went gluten and dairy free. With the IBS I find that I have good days and bad days, it's sort of a hit and miss, so I never know when I'll start getting symptoms. I find it gets worse when...
  8. I'm sure that one slip up would not do too much harm, but I think that if you were eating things contaminated with gluten or with traces amount of gluten in them on a daily basis, than I think it would cause intestinal harm. I personally wouldn't knowingly eat anything with gluten in it or something that was contaminated since the smallest traces of gluten...
  9. Yeah I guess that is what I was trying to say. I'm not good at explaining myself somethimes. I have IBS which is really annoying but I agree with you that too many doctors are prescibing IBS meds when it is probably something else.

    ARCHIVED Rebelling

I agree. It would be something to take during accidents or when you are eating out and worried about cross-contamination. However, it would not prevent intestinal damage, just help relieve symptoms.

    ARCHIVED Rebelling

Glad to hear that you're starting to feel better and BTW Thanks for saying that the pizza wasn't good I am craving it right now. I just polished off a whole pint of blueberries though to make me stop thinking I'm hungrey
  12. Even if there are no symptoms in your friends or your son, small amounts of gluten can still cause intestinal damage which puts them at an increased risk for various problems. I am not a doctor, but I believe that the amount of gluten in that chocolate milk or on a slice of meat from a wheat sandwich could be enough to cause intestinal harm.

    ARCHIVED Brain Fog

I get major brain fog when I have gluten. It's really hard to describe but I'll try... It kind of feels like I'm on that stuff that they give you at the hostpital though IV during colonoscopies or endoscopies. I get dizzy, tired, feel really spacy, not mentally with it (lol), and I get an "I don't care" attitude... It's so bad somethimes that I don't drive...
  14. ok, I guess it was the popables I meant. I knew it was something different The snickers cruncher and snickers marathons also have gluten in them. Open Original Shared Link
  15. I've heard of pressure points that can heal and I am not skeptical of them since my mother has been to acupuncture for her severe migraines which were drastically reduced after treatment. Just remember that this technique may relieve symptoms, but it would in no way cure celiac disease or prevent intestinal damage from eating gluten and should only be used...
  16. Yeah, it's all about money sometimes which is really sad. Some people probably do have IBS, but I think it comes with food intolerances or it isn't IBS and IS a food intolerance to something like dairy, gluten, soy, corn... What's really sad is that I find that some doctors are very quick to give an IBS diagnosis before ruling anything else out. In my...
  17. I think the smaller sizes, like the bite size snickers have gluten. So don't eat those.
  18. Those symptoms do sound like celiac symptoms. I didn't have anemia when I was at my worst, but I had a ton of other symptoms. And I also had to wait forever for a biopsy I had a positve blood test but my doctors wanted to do a biopsy. While I was waiting, I ate all the gluten I could... Some of my symptoms cleared up within 6 months (like weight loss...
  19. Sorry to hear that you aren't feeling well. I know what it is like... feeling sick of being sick... I hope that the doctors find out what is wrong. Keep us posted.
  20. This list has gluten-free hot dogs. I've eaten gluten-free hot dogs with no problem in the past. Open Original Shared Link I hope you have a safe and enjoyable trip!
  21. For restaurants I would recommend Swiss Chalet and ask for the gluten free menu or the celiac menu. I would suggest shopping at Sobeys or the Atlantic Superstore, these stores both have health food sections with gluten free products.
  22. I am both gluten and dairy free, this is what I have had: Breakfast: gluten free waffles Italian kinnikinick bread toated with peanut butter fruit (blueberries, bananas, apples, oranges) orange juice fruit to go bars gluten-free cereal bar or nutragrain bar (by EnviroKidz or Glutino) Lunch: tuna salad sandwiches (tuna, mayo, celery, green onions...
  23. I drink orange juice fortified with calcium
  24. Some people can have celiac disease and have no symptoms at all, but they still have intestinal damage. I think that you should be tested for celiac especially since you noticed improvements with the sores on the low carb diet. To get diagnosed I would go to your doctor and ask for the tissue transglutamase blood test or the celiac blood panel. I'd tell the...
  25. If you are getting other tests done (lile glucose levels) than she may be required to fast. Fasting for 12 hours should not affect the results. I was sent to the GI doctor not knowing what would happen and he drew blood for celiac that day. My results were very positive for celiac and I don't believe that I had very much gluten if at all within 12 hours prior...
