ARCHIVED I Kinda Feel Like Crying
Carriefaith replied to redheadheather's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm sorry to hear about that The good news is that you now know what is wrong and you can fix it with diet and without taking medications. And we are always here to help -
Based on these symptoms you could definately be suffering from celiac diease. Once you find a doctor, you should request a celiac blood test, preferably the tissue transglutamase test or the celiac blood panel. Don't go gluten free before the tests or you may get false negative results.

ARCHIVED Non-gf Hot Dogs
Carriefaith replied to connole1056's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Good question I've found that the really cheap brands often have gluten in them and others like maple leaf are usually gluten-free but may be contaminated. Does anyone know if butterball turkey hotdogs are gluten-free? -
Yea, the skin prick test will only test for allergies. I am sure that there are tests for the intolerances, I know that there are a few for lactose intolerance. From your symptoms though, I would guess that you may have an inloerance to gluten or casein.
-
If you can, get tested for casein intolerance, lactose intolerance, gluten sensitivity/intolerance, and wheat allergy.

I found the program from the Celiac Association National Conference that was in Edmonton, AB this year. Swiss Chalet is great place for celiacs. I always eat there when I travel. But it is always annoying knowing there is a change of getting sick. Even at the most safe places. There will always be mistakes. -

ARCHIVED Want To Understand My Mom
Carriefaith replied to criosa's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Since your mother has celiac, it would be a good idea to get tested. Some people can have no symptoms at all and still have intestinal damage. Some of my family members were tested becasue I had celiac disease and my grandmother found out that she had it. She only had mild symptoms. -
Bruises are a sign of a lack of vitamin K. If you have a lot of unexplained bruises, then you may not be absorbing a lot of vitamin K. The bruises will probably continue to happen until your villi heal, which could take weeks or months on the gluten-free diet.

I think that it is a very good idea and very useful.

ARCHIVED Question About Symptoms
Carriefaith replied to ambley79's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You should be tested for celiac disease. I would request the celiac blood panel from your doctor and if he/she won't do it, I would find a doctor that will. Your symptoms are very typical of celiac disease and it should definately be ruled out as a potential possibility for your problems. I can also get very severe abdomainal pain after a gluten... -
ARCHIVED What Are The Symptons Of Dairy Problems?
Carriefaith replied to VydorScope's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
If lactaid doesn't work for you, then you are most likely casein intolerant. I kind of figured that I am caseain intolerant since lactaid never seemed to work for me. I would take the highest dose of lactaid and only have a very small amount of dairy and I would still get sick. I just avoid dairy all together except for small amounts of lactose in medicine... -
Some people feel better in a few weeks and for other it takes up to 1 to 2 years. When I get an accidental gluten ingestion, my stomach pain can last for up to about 2 weeks.

Carriefaith replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
As you know probably know, it is very important to stick with the diet or you may run into serious complications like cancer. I would suggest going to a dietician that is very knowlegeable about celiac and reading a few books about the disease. If you need help with recipe ideas don't hesitate to ask. -

ARCHIVED Old El Paso Taco Seasoning Mix
Carriefaith replied to misskris's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've had the Old El Paso Taco Seasoning with no troubles and I am super ultra sensitive to gluten . You may have reacted to the MSG. -
I used to get bad eczema when I was younger, but it went away and I have no idea if it was celiac disease related. However, I've recently started to develop a DH like rash when I get an accidental gluten ingestion. I also get most of the typical symptoms of celiac disease like mild to severe stomach pain, gas, bloating, diarrhea, fatigue, and brain fog ...
