  1. My gluten symptoms can be a lot like the flu (brain fog, dizziness, fatigue, diarrhea, a general sick feeling). For me there are a few things that distinguish a gluten accident from the flu, maybe some of them would apply to your daughter. - I break out in mosquito/chicken pox-like bumps on the skin. - localized stomach pain (it is in the same spot everytime...
  2. Sorry to hear that your children aren't doing well. You could have celiac disease (from reading your history) and since it is genetic, your childen may have it as well. I would find a doctor that will run the celiac blood panel on you and your children. You can also get a gene test done to see if you and your children have the celiac gene. If you want...
  3. Thanks LauraJ I'm starting a new week and hopefully no contamination this week! I hope you are doing better. Thank you... I know what you mean about the crumbs, and some people in my family seem to love going into the cupboards that are FULL of gluten when I am in the middle of cooking
  4. I'm with Kaiti on this one. Kraft is great for us because they will not hide any gluten in the ingredients.
  5. That's awful, people can be so mean sometimes
  6. I'd ditch it. Go with McCormick spices since they clearly indicate gluten.
  7. I can see it

Just because they aren't supposed to do something doesn't mean that it isn't done. I've worked in a fast food place and without giving any details there were some questionable things going on sometimes and I would definately never trust anything in a fast food place to be 100% gluten free. When you are super busy and have 10 orders to make things get pretty...
  9. People actually say that to you?
  10. Plain roast beef straight from the cow (like a roast) would be fine, I would check the ingredients in deli meats for additives before buying them.
  11. Did you have anything else to eat that day? My gluten reactions come within several hours to a day after eating something with gluten in it. If you have had all those food before without getting sick than it may be something you had earlier in the day or the day before.
  12. - Separate food containers such as mayonaise, peanut butter, jam, butter, ect - I have a lot of my own cookware (wok, stirring spoons, baking pans, cutting board) which were all gifts, but I cannot personally afford to buy all new stuff like pots, silverware, plates, glasses, ect. so I am extra careful at cleaning that stuff. - Separate toaster - Cleaning...
  13. Welcome! I'm also 24 and found out that I had celiac when I was 22. I know what you mean, some people do make a big deal about it and others don't understand why I am being so picky and paranoid.
  14. I don't use the microwave all the time, but it is very convenient when you are on campus for 8-10 hours a day and can't get to a stove

I got my info from a Canadian website: Open Original Shared Link Maybe it is done in some restaurants in Canada.
  16. I find that dairy is in just as many things as gluten so you have to be careful sometimes. If he has to go 100% dairy free, make sure you watch out for dairy in chips, chocolate, candies, microwavable dinners, butter, margerine, and processed foods. I am also dairy free in addition to gluten free, so if you need any suggestions on recipes or safe products...

    ARCHIVED Wendys

Chili and Fries from Wendey's can both be contaminated. This is a quote from a former Wendy's employee: "Chili is made from all the unused meat that is saved up during a day, sometimes you see people take a patty off of a bun because they made the wrong thing or an order was cancelled or whatever and they stick it in with all the other meat so it may...
  18. oh yeah...
  19. I am 24 and have been in university for 6 years now. I'm a professional student ie. I have a BSc and I'm getting a master's degree (lol). If you are spending a lot of time on campus, I highly recommend finding a microwave and bringing left overs from dinner ect to heat up in the microwave. Living in a place where you can cook your own food would be ideal...
  20. A very slightly elevated blood test can still be accurate in detecting celiac disease. My grandmother had a mildly elevated tissue transglutamase blood test and she had villi damage in her intestine. Meaning that the blood test was highly specific for the disease.
  21. I have read that seizures are a complication of celiac disease: Open Original Shared Link
  22. I would talk to your doctor about this. This may be a sign of a seizure which is a complication of celiac disease. Open Original Shared Link I remember that commercial too Those commercials can be educational!
  23. To be honest, a lot of doctors don't know very much about celiac and leave us on our own (like in your case). They just say start the gluten free diet and that's it. The best info on the gluten-free diet (from by experience) can be found on the internet, in books, and on this website. I would highly suggest going to the bookstore and buying some books on...
  24. Good luck with the testing. It was a good idea to wait and put him on the diet after the testing. Ask if they can do the Tissue Transglutamase blood test tTg, since it is highy specific for celiac disease.
  25. What did he mean by inflammation? The only tests that I know of that test for gluten intolerance are with enterolab. I am not a doctor but I think going gluten free and lactose free is worth a try, after all the testing is done though. But he may have to be off gluten for awhile to notice improvements (like a few months).
