  1. Happy birthday and may God bless you today!

  2. Have fun in Nashville!! I was there two years ago and was surprised at how much I loved the city!! I, too, am heading out of state for a bowl game and understand how difficult it can be trying to find restaurant info!! I googled "gluten free nashville" and here are two links that I found with quite a bit of information on local restaurants: Open...
  3. Hi everyone!! I was wondering if anyone could give me some suggestions for restaurants/grocery stores in the Tampa area?? I'm going to be heading down there around New Years for the Outback bowl (I'm a senior in college at the University of Wisconsin ----- Go Bucky!!). Anyway, back to the point -- I'm going to be staying in Tampa and then heading...
  4. sooo good to know this! i thought i was the only one being annoyed by the lack of three-letter searches! thanks!
  5. Hey guys! I'm going to be a senior at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. I was diagnosed at the end of my freshman year of college, so I know how hard it is to completely change your lifestyle and try to survive college at the same time! Good luck to those of you in dorms. I lived in the dorms for a semester after being diagnosed and it was really...
  6. I alternated between constipation and diarrhea pre-diagnosis. When I get glutened, I get fatigued, nauseous, feverish, and want to curl up in a ball and never move! I have Crohn's, too, so I think that affects why sometimes I get diarrhea and sometimes constipation.... I hope it helps knowing you're not the only one with those symptoms!
  7. I used to have the same problem. All of the supposedly gluten-free vitamins I was trying made me incredibly nauseous within an hour of taking them. I tried so many different kinds and they all made me sick, even though they were gluten free. I even refused to take vitamins for awhile!! After being lectured by my nurse practitioner and my mom, I decided...
  8. I haven't been there since being diagnosed with Celiac, but when I did go, it was a ton of fun! Hope you have a great trip!
  9. I'm in the same boat... I was diagnosed with celiac in June 2005 and Crohn's in December 2005. Doesn't it suck taking so many pills every day?!?! I'm only 21, but my pill collection makes it look like I'm in my 80s!
  10. Hello! I'm heading out to San Francisco in a couple of weeks to visit my brother and sister-in-law who moved there last month. I was wondering if anyone could suggest any restaurants?!? They live in the Haight Ashbury neighborhood, but we'll probably hit up all of the touristy spots (North Beach, Chinatown, the Marina District... the works!). I...
  11. In order to test for lactorse intolerance, my doctor suggested that I completely get rid of it for three days and then have a giant glass of milk on the fourth day to see if my symptoms (diarrhea and lots of gas) came back. Too bad I'm from Wisconsin (born and raised with some of the best dairy products around) and haven't yet brought myself to try...
  12. Huh - the last I had heard, Hidden Valley's dry packet was NOT gluten free. Maybe I'm wrong, though. It'd be great if it was... My mom (also celiac) uses Simply Organic Ranch Dip mix instead of the Hidden Valley kind. I haven't tried it yet, but she says it's pretty tasty.
  13. I TOTALLY agree! I miss donuts and these are wonderful!
  14. I cheated about 2 days after I was diagnosed and didn't really have much information on Celiac at the time. (This was about 2 years ago) I worked in an orthopaedic clinic and one of the doctors was nice enough to buy the whole office pizza from Domino's. I figured I deserved one last gluten-filled pizza meal before I officially gave it up - besides what...
  15. After I googled "Gluten Free drug list", I stumbled across this beauty. Check out this website for a pretty sweet list of gluten-free meds: Open Original Shared Link I'm an Excedrin user, personally, but the list has a portion devoted to migraine headache meds...(that is, if you're looking for migraine medicine -- otherwise check out the rest of...
  16. Hey Grey -- I go to UW-Madison and see a nurse practitioner at the UW Hospital -- her name is Patrice Kennedy. I've been seeing her for about 2 years now and she does a great job at taking care of me! She works under/with (?) Dr Reichelderfer who I believe is the head of the GI department (I'm not 100% certain about that), but he's the guy who gave...
  17. haha!! i'm glad i'm not the only one who boos at the TV every time i see those commercials!! i can't believe tostitos did this! i'm so disappointed that now i have to check yet another food item before i eat it...
  18. I can definitely empathize with you!! I just finished my third year here at the University of Wisconsin - Madison and my finals week was going well (as well as finals week can go, I guess) until I decided it would be smart to go out to dinner! Halfway through my rice noodles dish at Noodles I found several wheat noodles in my food. Great, huh? And I had...
  19. Good question! I've eaten them several times and never had a reaction, but I'm not 100% certain.
  20. I know it's not Southeast Wisconsin, but I'm from Madison, WI. You should head over this direction and check out the Silly Yak Bakery. Not only do they have wonderful baked goods (breads, muffins, cakes, cookies, etc), they have frozen gluten-free pizza that you can heat up at home. You can also check out Bunky's Cafe here in Madison (www.bunkyscafe.net...
  21. I live in Wisconsin and have eaten successfully at two Hardee's (one in Oshkosh, WI and the other in Oconto, WI). Both times I got the low-carb burger in a lettuce wrap. Granted, I haven't eaten at Hardee's in about a year, but the last time I was at the Oconto Hardee's, they had a dedicated fryer for fries. I don't think the one in Oshkosh had a dedicated...
  22. Hey! I'm a member of the "Madison Area Gluten Intolerance Chapter" (MAGIC). I haven't actually gone to any of the meetings, but they send out monthly newsletters which are pretty awesome. They have recipes, product updates, tips, and medical information. I know the Fox Valley Celiacs also have a newsletter (my mom is a member), so I'd think the rest of...
  23. I'm from Oconto (30 miles north of Green Bay) but am currently going to school at UW-Madison!! winniepooh--- it says you're from Antigo --- I think the name of the gluten-free bakery that's there is Life Without Wheat (i could be wrong on that), but I know there's a gluten-free bakery in Antigo -- my mom goes there all the time to buy me desserts!
  24. I found the following information about a LAX support group from the website Open Original Shared Link .... This site has a list of all of the other Celiac support groups across the state, if you're interested. I'm from Madison, so I'm not really knowledgable on the LAX group, but I'm pretty sure a lot of the groups across the state stay in touch with...
