Depression and anxiety before I went gluten free cost me a lot, including my marriage and impacted my relationships with my children. My depression lifted relatively quickly gluten free and the only time I am depressed now is when I am glutened. My anxiety is another story but I had a lot of bad life experiences and have had PTSD for years. That actually...

ARCHIVED Looking For A Food Test Plan
ravenwoodglass replied to rtsmith21's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This can not be stressed enough. It took me awhile and many phone calls to find an allergist who would deal with food intolerances as well as true allergies. I am very thankful to that doctor as he literally saved my life with the elimination diet. My GI wouldn't even endo with negative blood work. The GI did finally diagnose but not until after he demanded... -
Yes you can go gluten free without positive blood or biopsies. Once you are gluten free though if you later decide you for some reason want to be tested you would then have to do a lengthy gluten challenge and you could still have negative test results. I have been diagnosed for 8 years and had a scope done 5 years after diagnosis since I had my 'over ...

ARCHIVED Long Journey Finally Coming To An End
ravenwoodglass replied to tikwid's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It sounds like your body has given you the answer. Even on a full gluten diet some of us will show negative on tests. It is usually advised to go back on gluten for about 2 to 3 months but it sounds like you ill enough not to want to do the challenge that long. I hope the tests give you a positive but if they don't your body is clearly telling you it wants... -
ARCHIVED Numbness And Tingling....docs Dont Know...help Again Please!
ravenwoodglass replied to Holly4's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with this. I was told my B12 was fine, it was about 252 or so at diagnosis. Definately to low. Also if you take a multi with folate that will make the B12 look higher than it actually is. You may want to try a subligual B12, it won't mess with your celiac testing but may help with those tingles until you are done testing and can go gluten free. With... -
Most of us do tolerate distilled gluten but not all. I am one of the ones who doesn't.

I know how much you miss beer, I do also. I did once try a Bud Light after someone posted that it was really low in gluten. Big mistake I will never make again. I usually get a bottle of wine and mix it with a soda since I also don't care much for gluten free beer. I may miss beer but it is not worth the sickness to imbibe.

ARCHIVED Looking For A Food Test Plan
ravenwoodglass replied to rtsmith21's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Have you had celiac testing done? If not and you will need a diagnosis for any reason get the tests done before starting the diet. If you don't you will have to do a lengthy gluten challenge before testing. Do keep in mind that even on gluten some of us will have negative testing. Simply start out with whole unprocessed foods. Meat, veggies, fruits, rice... -
ARCHIVED Got Bloodwork Back, But Just Had Endoscopy Yesterday
ravenwoodglass replied to joshnjustinsmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just make sure that is a new cast iron pan. If you have one that has been used for gluten foods you don't want to use it. -
ARCHIVED Lupus? Ms? Or Just Crazy?
ravenwoodglass replied to AMP's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
How strict are you with the diet? Are you eating a lot of processed foods? Do you drink distilled gluten alcohol? Have you eliminated gluten from your toiletries? As mentioned the antibodies can attack the brain causing lesions very much like the ones found in MS except they are in a different location. Not all neurologists are aware of this and I was thought... -
Have you tried drinking coffee you make at home? While their coffee may be gluten free the chance of CC is IMHO high.
-
Have you tried Heinz distilled? I can't remember offhand what they use to make it other than that it is not gluten derived. I have no problem with their distilled vinegar in products or plain.

ARCHIVED Generic Drugs
ravenwoodglass replied to bincongo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Re the Nexium. Are you still having heartburn? If your not you may want to talk to your doctor about weaning off the heartburn meds. It is important not to stop this med suddenly as it can have a rebound effect if you do. If you are you may want to make sure you don't have an additional intolerance. Oddly enough soy gives me awful heartburn, which liquid... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Necessity
ravenwoodglass replied to beefree11's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No. If the celiac had anything to do with that it would be due to the antibodies not undigested gluten. It isn't undigested gluten that causes autoimmune issues it is the antibody reaction to gluten and then the antibodies themselves that cause the damage. Those antibodies don't cause all autoimmune diseases. Many are lucky like I was and have most of their... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Gone Through Patch Testing
ravenwoodglass replied to TPT's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
It does need to be intact skin next to the lesion. Just because the doctor that did the biopsy was a dermatologist doesn't always mean they know how to do the biopsy correctly. I suffered greatly from DH for almost all my life and saw many derms. I was told it was everything from 'poison ivy in my blood stream' to 'pickers acne' to 'contact dermatitis'. The... -
Do NOT respond to anything from him. If he sends a letter send it back unopened or throw it out. By keeping him as a freind on facebook and instant messaging him you are sending mixed signals. Do as the other posters suggested doing otherwise risks problems in your marriage.

ARCHIVED Gene Testing Results
ravenwoodglass replied to bincongo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The only way to tell who she got that particular gene from would be to test everyone. Also people can be celiac and have neither DQ2 or DQ8. I am a double DQ9 and am firmly diagnosed. -
ARCHIVED To Test Or Not To Test
ravenwoodglass replied to Carie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am glad you found the answer and know you need to be gluten free. One thing you need to keep in mind is that a lot of times they only test for 2 of the up to 27 genes associated with celiac. If it turns out that you don't have DQ2 or DQ8 do not take that as 'proof' that you are doing the wrong thing. -
ARCHIVED More Help With Test Results
ravenwoodglass replied to happymom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Glad to hear it. Do keep him on gluten until the day of the biopsy but as soon as the biopsy is done it would be a good idea to take him gluten free. You don't need to wait on the test results. -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Necessity
ravenwoodglass replied to beefree11's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You asked in another post if the autoimmune process can be stopped. In my case it was. My arthritis is in total remission and all other autoimmune issues also resolved. The damage to my joints and kidneys has not progressed but the damage is still present in that of course my hands are still 'deformed' and the least bit of gluten or soy will cause my kidneys... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Necessity
ravenwoodglass replied to beefree11's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have coped fairly well although I do have PTSD and a great distrust and dislike of doctors as a result of the very long time it took me to be diagnosed. I did finally get diagnosed as a result of a very good, very elderly allergist who after doing allergy testing and finding I showed allergic to all but one of 99 things I was tested for put me on a strict... -
ARCHIVED Sudden "d", Advice Needed
ravenwoodglass replied to Free-CountryGirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just keep in mind that like with gluten intolerance and celiac will not show up on an allergy panel intolerances to soy and dairy will not either. Intolerances and allergies are different types of reactions. -
ARCHIVED Finger Nails And Acme
ravenwoodglass replied to Tynkfx's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It would be a good idea to add a good gluten free multivitamin to the B12. What are you eating? Mostly whole unprocessed foods will help you heal and absorb more from your food. Are you using topical products with gluten ingredients? If so you may want to avoid them for a bit and see if that helps your skin clear up. -
ARCHIVED More Help With Test Results
ravenwoodglass replied to happymom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That his TTg was negative is good since that shows, if I am not mistaken, that so far his body is not attacking itself, yet. Children often have false negatives on testing and it is significant that he has tested positive, and it is not a low positive. It would be a good idea, IMHO to seek a second opinion from a doctor who is more knowledgeable about celiac... -
ARCHIVED Generic Drugs
ravenwoodglass replied to bincongo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I only take one med and it is by Sandoz. I know that is gluten free but don't know if all of them are. If you do a search with "Sandoz and contact info" you will find their contact info to call and ask them.
