  1. Hi there, So sorry to hear of what you've been going through. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, along with osteoarthritis last December, & I can relate to your symptoms all too well. I didn't even know about gluten until the rheumatologist told me "I could give you morphine & it wouldn't take the pain away". WHAT?? So I looked into food intolerances...
  2. In California & most other states, that would be considered child abuse (assuming you're under age 18) & reportable not only to Child Protective Services, but also to Law Enforcement. There's no reason why this crime should not go unreported - I'd leave the ROTC powers that be out of it & have your mom report it directly to the local police, sheriff...
  3. Hi there, I stumbled across the gluten-free diet by accident, while trying to find relief from fibromyalgia & arthritis (I'm only 36 but have struggled for YEARs with joint pain, muscle pain, fatigue, etc). Anyway, I had the testing done through Enterolab too, & all my results were positive, including 2 copies of the gene linked with gluten intolerance...
  4. Are you sure the cottage cheese was gluten free? Not all brands are, from research I've done in the past. Also, could the soup have had MSG in it? Maybe that's another sensitivity (or the eggs themselves). Good luck - hope you feel better soon!
  5. You could always order the tests from Enterolab (www.enterolab.com) to see whether you have the genes for celiac, or for gluten intolerance, as well as other food intolerances. And don't forget that for a lot of people, dairy can cause constipation too. Good luck, & let us know what happens. And, congratulations on your pregnancy!
  6. Thanks everyone for the good advice. It's all so overwhelming, & I feel like I'M the one who's doing all the research into what could be wrong with my body (I'm the one who even found out about gluten after I went off it for a couple of weeks when I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia). Anyway, I feel a bit more prepared for going into my doctor's tomorrow...
  7. I enjoy using Agave nectar in my hot cereals & smoothies, as well as Stevia powder in place of sugar. I don't know if I'm cane sugar intolerant or not (I do still eat it, but try to limit it) & have been looking for replacements. The Agave nectar is quite a bit like honey, with a mild flavor, but it's thinner so it's easier to pour & use. It also...
  8. Anyone have either adrenal fatigue or a candida "growth"/infection in their body? If so, what are your symptoms, how did you get diagnosed, & what are you doing to treat it/them? I'm seeing my primary doc later this week & want some info so I know what to ask for. I've already taken some online quizzes for both adrenal fatigue & candidiasis...
  9. I've tried to be so diligent about being gluten, soy, casein, & egg free, & yet I continue to have various symptoms that pop up frequently. Today it's shooting pains in my forearms that I can't link to any particular place in my arm, just in the muscles/nerves on top of my forearms. Last week I had a headache that literally lasted for 1-1/2 weeks...
  10. Tofutti products are made out of soy ("tofu"tti).
  11. I recently asked my doctor to test my vitamin B12 and vitamin D levels since I'm "free" of several different major food groups now. My B12 was in the "normal" range, but the D was quite low ("optimum functioning" is 35, & I was 18). The doctor recommended bumping up my intake to 1200 units daily. But how do I do that? Supplements? Certain foods? ...
  12. Have you looked into ALL possible sources of gluten, such as your vitamins, supplements, other medications, toiletries, etc? If you are super diligent about all of that, have you looked into other food intolerances too? I was doing great on the gluten free diet, but would still have increasing muscle & joint pain, along with other symptoms. I had Enterolab...
  13. Enterolab informed me (earlier this summer) that I have 2 copies of the DQ1 gene, making me a "double DQ1", non-celiac gluten intolerant person (based on negative blood tests/biopsy). I know there's a lot of other DQ1 people out there, & I'm wondering if there's already a link somewhere for us to talk about what this means & how gluten has affected...
  14. There's some I get at Whole Foods that are really great... They're called "Let's Do Sprinkelz" & they're by Edwards & Sons co. They're all natural, & colored with vegetable coloring. Have fun!
  15. I've been very closely following the gluten-free diet for some time now, along with being casein-free, soy free, & egg free (see my signature for the details). Ever since late last week I've been having wicked migraine headaches, which I haven't had for such a long time, & I haven't missed them. For about 2 weeks it also seems like it's often hard...
  16. Violet, Could I ask what happens when you eat things with sunflower oil in them? I'm in the process of trying to rule out other possible food intolerances, & it seems like when I eat tortilla or potato chips (gluten free of course) I still get major "tummy rumbles", bloating, & even some joint/muscle pain. One person mentioned possible potato intolerance...
  17. I really like my primary care physician, Dr. Victor Baquero. He's with the UC Davis Medical Group in Folsom (916-985-9300). I've gone to him several times with concerns that he took very seriously, & he made sure my insurance covered tests for celiac/gluten intolerance without any hesitation. When I've gone to him with research I've found, such as the...
  18. I recently had the Enterolab testing done for soy, which came back very high for anti-soy antibodies. So, I immediately cut soy out completely, & within a week noticed a HUGE improvement in my joint & soft tissue pain levels (cutting out gluten & casein alone didn't do it all the way). I've been trying not to eat too many peanuts since they...
  19. Those are symptoms I get when I eat soy or casein (dairy) products, because I'm also intolerant to both of those things. Have you ever been tested for either of those?
  20. I LOVE Red Robin's french fries, & have enjoyed them many times. Today when I was there I wanted to make sure they do use a dedicated frier (they do if you ask them to), & they brought me a gluten-free listing of products. The french fries AREN'T ON THERE! I asked the manager about this, & he said "if they're not on the list, then they probably...
  21. I looked on my bottle of Whole Foods (365 brand) multivitamins today, & found they contain SOY, which I've been so carefully avoiding for 3 weeks now. AARRGHH! I never thought to consider that vitamins might have soy in them!! Any thoughts on how to find out what brands are not only gluten-free, but soy-free, casein-free, & egg-free too...
  22. Sugarmag, Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience with that guy on the phone. Makes you want to reach through the phone & shake him a bit, huh?? I don't get why "non-allergenic/intolerant" people have so much trouble understanding how important it is for us to get accurate information! Good luck on your quest for "ice cream", & I...
  23. I LOVE the Blue Diamond Unsweetened Almond Milk, either Vanilla or Chocolate flavor. It only has 40 calories per cup, & no after taste. I use the Vanilla in my cereals, used it to cook my rice hot cereal today, & to dunk my gluten-free cookies in! I use the Chocolate one in smoothies & add a banana & some frozen cherries, with a little...
  24. No- I just read your post about them & hopped onto Ask.com and found them. Too bad I couldn't find something in between the $25 beaded ones, & the $2 (very green colored) ones through the Celiac Center for Research. Glad I could help!
