Crystalkd replied to Crystalkd's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips

ARCHIVED Gf Make-up
Crystalkd replied to jknnej's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I need help figuring out the make up and shampoo question. I need cheaper stuff and hair care products for curly hard to contol hair. Right now I'm using Trsseme shampoo and conditioner, herbal essence mousse and cvs brand gel. As far as make up it's a mix of wet and wild concealer, cover girl pressed powder and a number of diffrent eye shadows. I don't use... -
ARCHIVED What Is With All The "look Out For Gluten In ~ Insert Toiletry Item~"
Crystalkd replied to mattathayde's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I find this conversation interesting at this point in time. I have not worried about gluten-free toletries other than toothpaste. I don't wear make up often so I'm still using the same lipsticks tthat I used before I went gluten-free. I appear it have ANOTHER ulcer,my 4th in 10 years, and I'm only 27. I was talking to my sister about buying make up that's... -
I'm going to my first cook out since going gluten-free almost two years ago. I'm a little scared. I'm not sure how big its going to be and I can't afford to buy my own grill before hand. I knnow some people use foil. Does it work? What works well in foil. I want to feel some what normal in this situation only one of these people really knows what I go through...

ARCHIVED Do The Silicone Baking Dishes Work Well For gluten-free Goodies
Crystalkd posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm starting to do a little more baking but I'm having a problem getting them out in one piece. I'm buttering the pans but I also have issues with my hands due to Cerebral Palsy so that's part of the issue. I'd like yo be able to have my bake goods come out of a dish easily. Do the silicone pans work well for gluten-free baking? -
ARCHIVED Please Help A Beginner With gluten-free Bread Issue.
Crystalkd replied to roxannebb's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Seeing as your short on time pre packaged mixes might be a better idea for you. I've tried Gluten Free Pantry;s bread and enjoyed it. I think I'll be purchasing a bread machine soon to make it eaiser. Also just a note. Whole Foods has come out with store brand pre packaged mixes that are pretty cheap for gluten free mixes. I tried thier fudge brownie mix... -
I love my internist Dr. Steven Patten in Tucker GA (Right out side of Atlanta.) I started going to him after I had all my testing and it came back inconclusive. After going through the whole thing he told me no matter what the test results said that it didn't mean I didn't have celiac or an allergy so NOT to ever eat gluten agian. I have Cerebral Palsy and...

ARCHIVED Having Acid Problems Agian!
Crystalkd replied to Crystalkd's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I've been taking Acidophilus and the prevacid and that seems to be helping some. I was able to get them to move my gastro appointment to Tuesday morning is is awesome. I also haven't eaten any meat in a couple of days. My stomache is still tender and uncomfortable but not as painful as it was. I've been trying to be careful about what I eat. Thanks for the... -
ARCHIVED Rheumatoid Arthritis In 25 Year Old Celiac Female
Crystalkd replied to Peter15's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Because celiac disease is autoimmune you are at greater risk of other such disorders on of which is RA. I'm being checked for it agian as well. Look at it this way: If the tests show something at least you know what's causing your pain. I rather know that there is something causing my pain than feeling like I'm crazy. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Fre Foods
Crystalkd replied to Dugger's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You have to read labels and learn what gluten is even the "hidden" stuff go to the pain page of the website for safe lists. It's hard starting out. You can find prepard foods as well but they cost more. Many stores and resturants have lists you just have to do some digging. I'm sure others can post links for you. I found the first 3 weeks or so the hardest... -
I seem to be having acid problems agian!!! I've had at least two ulcers in the last 10 years with suspected others. I'm only 27! Never had a true Celiac dx but am on a gluten-free diet. I think I've finally talked my mother into getting tested! Are there things I can eat to help bring my acid levels down. I Have a GI doc appointment in 3 weeks but I'm tired...

ARCHIVED Dr.'s Think I'm Nuts!
Crystalkd replied to emileigh79's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I understand EXACTLY how you feel. I got VERY sick in a 12 hour period and the doc said I was stressed and depressed and blamed it on depression and Cerebral Palsy. He sent me to a shrik who said there was nothing wrong with me. Finally I was sent to a gastro when I started dropping weight QUICK. All the tests came back negitive including the ones for ceiliac... -

ARCHIVED I Am Having A Hard Time With This!
Crystalkd replied to johncgaiser's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Like your wife I require a gluten free enviroment in my house. I feel that my home should be my safe zone. I've been on the diet for two years. My sister moved in afterwards and agreed to go gluten-free. We look at recipes and think about what needs to be changed to make them safe. I've actually learned alot of great recipes from her. The change does impact... -
A spray would be nice but I've gotten around it. When I go to my parents house even though they have more and more gluten-free snacks in thier house I cook my own stuff ahead of time or if we are having a family gathering and my grand mother is there she makes sure most of the meal is in gluten-free and she mixes everything in glass containers that have...

ARCHIVED gluten-free Cream Of Mushroom Soup
Crystalkd posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
As a kid one of my favorite dishes was pork chops baked with Cream of Mushroom Soup and veggies. I have a craving for it. I haven't been able to find a gluten-free cream of Mushroom soup. Any one have any ideas? -
That's iffy I think because of the crumbs on the bottom. My sister lives with me but the thought of having gluten in my house TERRIFIED me so I asked her to be gluten-free in the house. She has done GREAT with it and I'm thankful. It's things like the toaster oven and such that scared me. Anytime it's around I start to get sick. If I have to go down the flour...

I've been gluten-free for about a year now. I agree with others. I would have your doc check for other allergies. I'm also corn and soy sensitive and if I eat too much it makes me almost as sick as gluten.

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed And Confused
Crystalkd replied to MBMoore's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I can't speak for everyone here but I know I got two diffrent kinds of tests with 2 totally diffrent results. My internist did a blood test that came up with many things both food and other wise. An allergist told me I wasn't allergic to any foods what so ever. I'm confused about which to follow so I'm completely gluten free and try to keep alot of the ther... -
Thank you guys for the suggestions. I have to go to the store tomorrow anyway so I'll keep all that in mind. I also think that the more I heal frm surgery and the better I feel the more I'll feel like cooking for myself. I'm getting there quickly which is awesome.
-
Thanks guys. I do like hummus with Nut Thins. I'm trying to make sure I keep some in the fridge to snack on. Just like the gluten-free diet itself it's taking me a while to figure everything out. Everytime I think I've got it under control I realize I don't and that there is something else to learn. I'm hoping that the thyroid is the colprit of the flucuating...

Thanks. Ta helped. I don't buy alot of breads and such but I got spoiled when I was in rehab for my back because the went out and bought me all the breads that I don't usually buy. With my back problems and now healing from surgery I've put some of the quicker stuff in the house to help but I'm starting to get the urges to cook agian and I've picked up two...

I didn't realize that the thyroid could cause hair loss. I've had a shedding problem for about a year now. I guess I need to find another shampoo after the pantene is done. Anyone had a problem with Aussie? (I have really curly hair so alot of stuff doesen't work well!LOL)
-
I've only been on the diet for 7 months now and to add to gluten-free I'm also corn, soy, dairy, and egg light since I seem to react to them too. I had to have back surgery last month and while in rehad we found out I was onthe malnurished side as well as lacking protein and havin low iron. I really want to see a dietian but my insurance doesn't cover it...

ARCHIVED Venting. Celiac Disease Is Impossible To Manage.
Crystalkd replied to Bravie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've read your post and some of the responces. The gluten free diet is hard. Your family is not being fair to your health. The way I look at it the diet is a matter of life or death. The fact that they won't even make little changes to help you out. I was lucky I liveed by myself when we found out so I wasn't sharing my kitchen. My sister recently moved in...
