    ARCHIVED Educating Doctos

Haha! I know how you feel.. I keep talking and talking, but I find that visuals help the most. Celiac.org and celiaccentral.org both have fliers or brochures that you can print out. I think it's celiaccentral.org aka the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness who actually has a printout specifically geared towards those pesky, stubborn, meanie doctors...
  2. Hi, I did do a search to see if this problem was already mentioned on the forums and found some information. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to post under that thread. I guess it had been closed. I was dx with Celiac in 5/2007. I've been religiously gluten-free since. The docs (prior to losing my health insurance) did a blood test to check for CC...
  3. Restaurants are really tricky. Places that serve both, can sometimes be really good about avoiding CC and then other times, they can accidentally contaminate you. Which restaurant did you go to? I know I have been having some reservations about checking out the gluten-free pizza at Mary's Pizza Shack. I'm really concerned about the CC. But, I guess...

  5. I second what Hermitgirl said about the receptionist. I knew information because I HAD to or else I would be sick for DAYS... Most receptionists are clueless. Ask your stylist or the company directly.
  6. What? Why? What for? How come? Seriously. Why is it that when I get even the slightest bit contaminated my entire body overheats? Thank the stars that doesn't happen often.. The feeling is similar to that of an army of soldiers, marching into this thing I call a body and shooting flaming arrows until everything catches fire and the structure (me...
  7. Oh my goodness, I know exactly how you feel! While I was still working, I would get comments that ranged from the following: Lady whispers, "Oooh look at that. Her shadow is bigger than she is!" Friend of a friend waltzes in, "I have the PERFECT idea! Let's dress you all in black and have you follow me around a buffet. I'll eat everything and you...
  8. I've been attempting to change my avatar and personal picture. However, it seems that the previous photo I had up is stuck there. The silly thing wont go away! I've tried the following: - Delete the previous avatar and profile picture (both seem stuck). It did say the photo was deleted and that no avatar or personal picture existed. - Let it sit for...
  9. I used to work in a salon, as the receptionist and here are the key things to ask about: 1. The shampoo and conditioner (that's a given - hehe) 2. The hairspray 3. The shine spray 4. The straightening product (if they need to use that) 5. Or the hold gel, scrunching stuff (technical term.. oh yea) So basically, the shampoo, conditioner and...

  11. I dropped down to 93 pounds, so I definitely know how you're feeling. What kind of foods are you buying? What do you normally eat in a day? The thing I found to cause the biggest problem with weight loss was not eating enough protein. Some nutritionist back when I was first diagnosed told me to eat 3,000 calories a day... But she failed to mention...
  12. I just had sort of a "wake up" call - literally.. I was diagnosed back in June of 2007 and followed the gluten-free diet to a T. The only problem.. I kept losing weight, kept feeling TIRED and was still having gastro symptoms.. I ended up in the hospital about 3 weeks ago. - I was severely malnourished - Weighed a whopping 93 pounds -...
  13. Wow. I was literally just about to Google that question! Thank you for asking I'm using the one for severely damaged hair. The only questionable ingredient is the Glutamic Acid in the Moisture Renewal Conditioner. Ok.. Just Googled the Glutamic Acid and I guess it isn't related to gluten.. So, I'm assuming everything should be okay with the Moisture...
