  1. Congratulations, Judy! Keep up the good (gluten-free) work!
  2. I have one that shows photos of DH and other skin disorders associated with celiac disease. It's also got lots of other great info: Open Original Shared Link
  3. Nita, the hair products can easily affect your scalp and the mascara comes dangerously close to your eyelid...like you don't have enough to worry about! As far as the fruits and veggies go, it's not at all uncommon to have difficulty digesting them for as much as a year after going gluten-free...but don't panic, just slow down your intake a bit and re-introduce...
  4. I really like celiac3270's idea of always putting the gluten-free utensils on the same side of the stove, but my husband is very forgetful! So we bought new spatulas, spoons, etc., and marked the handles with nail polish so everyone will know that they are for gluten-free use only. Now I never worry about scrubbing gluten out of my gluten-free slotted spoon...
  5. There is a photo of DH on: Open Original Shared Link Scroll down to figure 8. There are also photos of additional types of skin disorders associated with celiac disease. Good luck!
  6. There has been mention of Dr. Phil's wife being gluten-free for one reason or another, not necessarily because of celiac disease, but no one seems to know for sure. Next week they are doing show in which she cooks for him...maybe the subject will come up? I'll try to watch--if anybody out there watches the show, let us know.
  7. I can tell you that I had awful nightsweats before I went gluten-free and that I haven't had them in the last gluten-free six months. I haven't ever seen anything about them on a symptoms list, but as I read more and more on these message boards it seems lots of weird symtpoms are related in some way to celiac disease. It could be that your body just gets...
  8. Yankeefan, Also, check out this link for 49 pages of gluten-free mainstream foods: Open Original Shared Link Have fun! Another Yankee fan...
  9. Smith, aspertame can give you IBS symptoms!
  10. I have celiac disease and I had trouble losing weight until I went gluten-free. My celiac disease daughter was asymptomatic except for occasional cracks in the corners of her mouth. You definately don't need to have obvious symptoms to have damage in your intestines, as we found out when her biopsy showed significant damage in her gut.
  11. I think we all have enough on our plates dealing with Celiac and I for one am not interested in trying to educate anyone about vaccinations, since it's clear there are firm opinions already formed and this really isn't the forum for it. I think we should stick with the subject at hand, if that's agreable to everyone.
  12. There was a HUGE study published this week that concluded that autism is not linked to vaccines. In fact mercury, longed-believed to be the "cause" of the connection between the two, isn't even being used as a preservative in today's vaccines. Colic begins to show up at about 6-8 weeks of age. My very happy baby went through a similar suddenly miserable...
  13. Just a headsup...the last two times I had my hair cut I had a shampoo, too, and it never occurred to me to check the label of the product they were using. I had never experienced contact dermatitis before I went gluten-free. During the first shampoo, I thought my scalp was a little too "tingly" but I just put it out of my mind. This last time, though-...
  14. I'm a grown woman with celiac disease who had a headache almost every day until I stopped eating gluten. I, too, saw allergists, neurologists, had CAT scans, MRIs, the whole nine yards. I almost never get headaches now, and it's been almost six months. I've read a lot of books about celiac disease and a lot on the internet, and there is definately a connection...
  15. Right on about that! You have an admirable attitude! I am celiac disease, my 11-year old daughter is celiac disease, and my nine year-old son has a visual disability that required four surgeries and homeschooling...I figure my situation can always be worse than it currently is, my son could have been diagnosed with celiac disease, too! That would have...
  16. I've had a lot of success putting the name of a drug together with the word gluten in quotes into google: "drug name gluten"
  17. Thanks! That definately helps...sounds like you had a time of it, though. Hope you are doing well, too. This is one sneaky disease.
  18. Brooke, one more suggestion--this website has a link to support groups. There is an organization called R.O.C.K.: Raising Our Celiac Kids, that may have a group in your area and could really help you get a handle on this. You are not alone, by any means!
  19. Brooke, my (gluten-free) heart goes out to you and your family...it just plain sucks, but the good news is that your dughter has an affliction that can be helped by dietary changes, not chemo, surgery, etc, and it helps to bear that in mind. My 11-year-old daughter and I are both celiac disease, and it appears as if my not being diagnosed until I was 46...
  20. emmeeann, our doc just told us last week and we haven't tried one yet. Judging from what everyone has said, it sounds okay, though. You can always order without the sauce. I'm definately going to have one this week! My sister is visiting and it would blow her mind if I took her to a drive-thru! She is very sensitive about my celiac disease, in fact we...
  21. My daughter's GI doc said the protein burgers were gluten-free! He recommended them highly! I sure hope he wasn't overlooking the "special sauce"! You guys don't think he would be that naive...oh my gosh, you just don't know who to trust, so I don't trust anyone. I would call In'n'Out myself and ask.
  22. Richard is right-on in his description of celiac disease-related mouth sores. You can go to the American Family Physician website and see pictures of the sores in living color: Open Original Shared Link Scroll down to figures 6 and 7. The sores were the only physical symptom our daughter had. Scary.
  23. Tammy and Kerri-- I'm a former Jersey girl tansplanted to Southern California, where the beaches are free, but NOT clean like they are back home! We always went to Jenkinson's in Point Pleasant Beach, for $3 a day, but I bet it's a lot more now. And we loved Perkin's Pancake House--a definate no-no these gluten-free days! Oh well, good luck planning your...
  24. My last bloodwork showed that I had elevated liver enzymes (pre my celiac disease diagnosis) and I've since read that that is actually one of the signs of celiac disease. I'm having more bloodwork done next week and I'm hoping it will be normal...but I'm wondering if anyone out there has had a similar experience. I'm concerned because I know liver disease...
  25. Try throwing around the words "intestinal atrophy" and "leaky gut" and see if that doesn't help. Sometimes I wish celiac disease made us bleed, then goofy friends and relatives might understand that we really have a bona fide disease!
