  1. Catfish, you make me laugh!
  2. By the way, Lisa, my brother-in-law got a video of it! Why don't you have us all over for some gluten-free snacks and we'll watch it with you? I'll bring the popcorn & gluten-free beer!
  3. xx
  4. Yes, celiac3270, if you try it, and I highly recommend that you do, watch it closely--it disintegrates really fast! We think it tastes as close to mainstream pasta as anything can.
  5. A second vote for Ancient Harvest Quinoa Pasta! My daughter loves it for mac'n'cheese. I boil it for five minutes, max, though, overcooking makes it yukky.
  6. Sara, don't you think it's ironic that I wrote how I didn't think I needed to be on the SCD, then I started having reactions to soy and corn?! How funny! That'll teach me! I did a "soy challenge" last night--ate some grilled tofu, it was so yummy--and I started to break out in hives in 15 minutes! I downed some antihistamines fast, and slathered on the...
  7. Wow, Lisa, just curious, where are you having this done? It's so new, I didn't think too many places did it. My brother-in-law had it done in NYC and said it was a pretty cool experience, not a big deal. Good luck, I hope it goes smoothly and they can figure out what the problem is.
  8. Deanna, Tiffany is so right, three weeks is such a short time! Cut yourself a BIG break! This is just about the most restrictive diet there is, and it takes some getting used to. Some things that helped me: Danna Korn's book, "Wheat Free, Worry Free"--get the bookstore to order it if they don't have it, it's fantastic! Also, this website: Open Original...
  9. I am so angry and frustrated reading these postings I could scream! It just shouldn't be so impossible to get a lousy blood test in this country! You guys have done such a good job at figuring out what's wrong with you, all you're asking for is a little support from your doctors! If I had to start over, I would go to the "Publications and Publicity" section...
  10. By the way, let me just say that I have a "gluten reaction" when I eat soy or corn, I'm not sure which yet, since I've only recently added them and did so at the same time--serious allergic reaction, hives, diarrhea, stuffy nose, etc. I'm seeing an allergist in two weeks. The illegal foods on the SCD that aren't soy or corn related haven't given me any...
  11. Gillian--Did the manufacturer tell you Cetaphil had gluten in it because I don't see it in the ingredients? I'm very sensitive to gluten in products, or at least to hydrolyzed wheat protein and the like, and I have used Cetaphil for years with no problem. I'm just wondering if I've missed something. I'm talking about the cleanser, not the lotion.
  12. I'm with Richard, too--both my daughter, age 11, and I have celiac disease, and our family outings are still about as stress-filled as they were when we had a newborn in the family! I've been dx'd a while, and had things pretty well covered for myself, but it's a whole other ballgame when you have to be prepared for "food emergencies" away from home with...
  13. I have to share our recent experiences with you guys. Saturday my good friend had a party for her son, and I brought gluten-free treats for my daughter and I, enough to share, in fact, as always. Well, I need not have bothered, as my wonderful friend had BAKED gluten-free blueberry muffins and also had gluten-free cookies and ice cream for us! I nearly...
  14. I have it straight from Danna Korn (author of Wheat Free, Worry Free) that gluten is too large a molecule to be absorbed through the skin. I don't mess around with any products that contain gluten, though, when there are adequate substitutes without it. Why risk accidental ingestion? On an emotional level, I just don't like having the stuff in the house...
  15. Sara, I'm glad you figured out why you were still feeling bad after being gluten-free. Please don't assume that all celiacs are in the same position you are in. Many people who post to this message board do so when they are having a problem, not when they are feeling well. You may want to amend your recommendation that all celiacs try eliminating all grains...
  16. Your recipe sounds yummy! Campfire and Jet-Puffed marshmallows are gluten-free.
  17. I am ultra-sensitive to gluten in shampoo and I use Pantene with no trouble.
  18. I don't know why Jello Instant Pudding didn't show up on my gluten-free list--it's that 49 page one--but I "googled" it and yup it is gluten-free. Don't know about the caramel color though, catfish, good point! Nothing came up on google for the butterscotch. Can't pass that new labeling law fast enough to suit me.
  19. Sorry to haer you're having so much trouble. How long have you been gluten free? I hope this doesn't sound too harsh, but it sounds like you are having frequent gluten accidents and anxiety as a result...I wouldn't be hosting parties centered around food until I got my diet straightened out--way too easy to get contaminated! Don't expect that of yourself...
  20. Good for you! I highly recommend Betty Hagman's "Gluten Gourmet" series of cookbooks. Really tasty recipes.
  21. Oh, and by the way, you re NOT on your own...you have this maessage board! Keep asking questions! Everyone will help you!
  22. Sorry, but saying you are "borderline celiac" is like saying you are a little bit pregnant!
  23. Amy--It's not on my gluten-free list, but all Hunt's Snack Packs are. So are Kozy Shack Rice, Tapioca, Choc, Vanilla, Banana and Flan. Do yourself a favor and check out: Open Original Shared Link It listed these items and 49 pages of other gluten-free mainstream foods. I don't go to the food store without it!
  24. It must really stink to have to wear your gluten intolerance on the outside! I'm really sorry about that. I hope it helps to know we're all here for you! Hang in there!
  25. Danna Korn's "Kids With Celiac Disease" is highly recommended reading. At age 11, your son can read labels, understand what gluten is, have a short list of safe snacks he can count on, understand never to accept food without checking first, and start getting active in his gluten-free lifestyle. My daughter is also 11 and was recently diagnosed. She's doing...
