  1. I saw a dietician yesterday and she gave me the impression that only "malt" vinegar was bad. Distilled and white wine vinegar should be okay...but I'm VERY new at this
  2. I saw a few posts where people mentioned specific numbers from blood tests so I just called the nurse at my GI's office (who is a huge ditz, BTW) and she said my transglutaminase number was 30 and that anything greater than 8 is positive for celiac disease. What is the range on this? Is 30 relatively high, medium, or low? What does this really mean...
  3. I've been reading lots of posts on this site and feel I am nowhere near what some of you are describing. I've had 2 flare ups in my life (one 6 years ago and one just recently) where I had "chronic diarrhea" for 6-8 weeks. 6 years ago, I was dx'd as having IBS and it eventually went away (or was manageable all this time). I just had my 3rd baby and got...
  4. Well, this is what led me into the doc's office...turns out I also was anemic and had elevated liver enzymes (but obviously didn't know those until I had the blood test done). Anyway, I had this symptom about 6 years ago and after a colonoscopy and upper GI, the doc just dx'd me with IBS. I tried a few meds, but essentially just knew that if I were...
  5. I got my test done on a Thursday and was called by my GI doctor the following Thursday. Good luck!
  6. Thank you everyone! JennyC-I tried to send you a message...I hope it worked. One more question for you all (well, I'm sure I'll have TONS, but for now)... What are the ingredients I should be looking for on the labels? I know wheat/barley/rye/oats...but what are the other ones? I saw something about malt? I guess I don't know the "secrets...
  7. Thank you both very much for your replies. I guess I'm looking for an easy route, which I'm sure there isn't one. Grocery shopping is going to be a whole new experience for me and since I have not yet met with a dietician and don't really know what to look for on labels (nor do I have the time with 3 kids under the age of 2 to read every label in the...
  8. I was just dx'd with celiac disease yesterday (colonoscopy/endoscopy following up on a positive blood test) and have no idea where to start with a gluten-free diet. I am the epitome of a junkfood eater, with Taco Bell being a food group for me. I have an appt with a dietician, but it's not until the 27th and I'm trying to get in with someone sooner...
