  1. Hi everyone, thank you for the enlightment on traveling to Mexico. I'm going in Jan and staying at Palladium Vallarta, anyone ever stayed here and did you have any eating issues....I'm so concerned about the eating, I'm planning on taking some things in my suitcase and someone suggested getting a letter from my Dr. incase they want to take my food......Anyone...
  2. Kate, thank you for shedding some information that totally sounds like what's happening to me. I'm going to try and see a nail tech that I know & see if she can't help me as well with the lifting. Mine also start lifting within 4 days......ugh. I'm still nail free and I don't like it...........Thanks Again. You by chance aren't in IL are you........
  3. Hi, I live in LaGrange and I got a woman's name, email address that runs a support group in Brookfiled, they meet the 3rd Wed. of the month at the library. Pam
  4. Hi, this may sound silly as I know acrylic nails are not a necessity however they make me feel so much better when I have them on. I do my own nails with tips and acrylic overlays and just the last month and a half I've had a hard time with them not lifting after 4-5 days. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm gluten free since July of this year.........
  5. Hello, just 9 days ago I started the same symptoms and went back to my gastro. I've only been gluten free since July 07, however he told me that celiacs are prone to get "bad" bacteria in our gut so he put me on a 5 day supply of Cipro (antibotic) and followed by Florastor a probotic. Within 4 days I was back to feeling good and no 3-4 time in the bathroom...
  6. I know a place just north of the airport on Manheim called Cafe La Cave.........it's an "upscale" place that I know would accommodate cooking a dinner any way you like. But it's not cheap.........I don't know of anything else up that way, I'd bring some salad dressing and tuna or chicken in a pouch and order a plain salad somewhere.............Good Luck Pam
  7. Hi Connie, I also am just newly diagnosed 3 months ago. I found that within 8 days of gluten freeI was feeling like a new person. I have had 2 situations with being what we celiacs call "glutened". I was told by a nutitionist that I could not share a toaster & she recommended a toaster oven, serves 2 purposes...toaster and oven......just food for thought...
  8. I have a question as I was only diagnosed in July 07....when you are talking about getting sick from hair products is it DH flaring up or intestional issues......I thought I read that you can't get intestional issues unless the product is ingested......am I wrong on that? Pam
  9. Hello, I have not had a problem with DH and my arcylic nails which I've worn for 25 years, I am a nail tech and do my own nails, but I was just diagnosed in July 07 and for the past 2 months I've been struggling with them lifting......I took them off about 3 weeks ago and I'm thinking maybe it's my body from the inside that is causing the problem. Anyone...
  10. I'm sorry to hear your frustration but your not alone..........I recently just a week ago went back to my G.I. Dr. as I was having the same issues you are. I've been gluten free since only July '07. He suggested I get rid of the milk and go to soy as well as he thought I might have too much bad bacteria in my gut so he gave me 5 days of Cipro (antibotic...
  11. Just a little FYI in time for the fall.....Marzetti's caramel dip is gluten free......great easy snack to dip an apple in. Size You can check out their items on their web site, it tells you if it's gluten free or not. www.marzetti's.com Pam
  12. I would definately consult a Dr. but you'll need to start eating gluten to make sure the test results are accurate. I felt good 8 days after going gluten free and occassionaly have had a bad day here and there, gas, stomach ache but that was from unknowlingly eating something with gluten. Celiac's call it "being glutened". Everybody's different and there...
  13. I live in Illinois and just had my colonoscopy and EGD scope done and it was $4258.00 as an outpatient, and another $1830.00 in Dr's fee's. Every state and insurance is different. Pam
  14. You should definately mention this to the Dr. but you also mentioned you haven't had your colonoscopy yet, have you had a blood test or biopsy to confirm? The colonoscopy won't confirm Celiac, a biopsy will. Pam
  15. I keep mine in a cabinet, what I did is once opened I put the rest of the flour in a baggie and labeled it, I keep a glass container with a pre-mix of "all purpose" baking flours so when I'm ready to try something my flour is pre mixed. I've heard of some people freezing their stuff just make sure you bring it to room temp. before baking. I don't have the...
  16. Thanks for the info....the woman at Nestle explained that the natural flavors and spices are nothing more than someone would use if making a pie from scratch, nutmeg....cinnamon.....vanilla...Please, please, please if anyone knows if this product is "bad" please post. Pam
  17. About 10 days ago I had put the same question out on the board as I had the same reaction you did and called Hershey's and they told me the same thing they told you..........I got Hershey's plain chocolate bars and a jar of peanut butter and dip my candy bar in the peanut butter.........it saves me the illness. Good luck! Pam
  18. Just got off the phone with Nestle and the Easy Pumpkin Pie Mix is gluten free, she advised me that ALL of their products will say, "contains wheat or nut ect..." She said they are very well aware of food allergies and list it specifically on the labels. This is good to know for me, I've been craving something pumpkin and this will now be cooking into something...
  19. I can't get a hold of anyone at the company and I'm craving some pumpkin pie something or another tonight....The ingredients are: pumpkin, sugar syrup, water, salt, natural flavors, spices. I'm not sure of the natural flavors or spices.........If anyone knows the answer please reply. Thank you. Pam
  20. Thank you for the info. I have a call into my Dr. and am going to go in and see him,,,,,,it's embarrasing and sometimes I think "oh god" I can't go anywhere with this symptom. I've only been diagnosed since July '07 so this is all soooo new to me. Thank you again for the info. Pam
  21. I know that everyone has different symptoms but is there any clear answer on having gas more often than not...? I'm thinking of calling the Dr. today but don't want to waste my time in going "if" there is nothing he can do for me. I'm 99.9% sure I'm not eating any gluten and it just crossed my mind last night that maybe I'm having food allergies...... ...
  22. Thank you for the info. I appreciate it being newly diagnosed.........hugh learning curve for a grown woman.
  23. I've read everywhere that Butterfingers are OK, gluten free but there is an ingredient listed: confectioners corn flakes............am I thinking of this ingredient wrong? I know corn flakes are bad for us celiacs. Pam
  24. Hello, I also posted a question on here the other day because I ate a Reese's Peanut Butter "pumpkin" cup and had ill reactions, I called Hershey's and they counld not tell me that any of the peanut butter cups were gluten free. I also read that they may use wheat when rolling out the ingredients but I don't know for sure. I actually bought some hershey...
