The ingredients listed in some organic rice cakes I just bought include corn, corn starch, corn oil, sea salt, rosemary, and spices*. Hmm... the asterik makes me a little bit nervous... it says the spices are all organic. Is there still a chance there is gluten? I just started this diet and everything is making me nervous!!

I have been told for years I have IBS and GERD, but now my cousin told me she is a Celiac so I went on the diet and have been feeling much better. Last time I was at the hospital because of a bad stomach episode, they told me I am very anemic. Is that also connected to being Celiac?

I have been going gluten free for about a month now and have been fine up until something I ate yesterday. One were some garlic/parsley flavored potato chips that included the ingredient 'aroma of garlic and parsley'. The other thing I had was red wine mixed with Casera (almost like a bubbly water that contains citric acid). Those were the only suspicious things I consumed yesterday and now I am sick. My question is, are all vinegars (balsamic and white) gluten free? What about citric acid found in European products (I live in Spain)? And what about 'aromas' listed as ingredients in products? I cant remember if it was aromas or emulsifiers that I read about containing gluten. Ugh. I just started this diet and am having so many problems trying to find a variety of food to eat and am always scared when Im eating!! So if anyone can help, please!!

Im sorry to hear that your son was glutened there! I worked at Outback for almost 3 years and i know that it really just depends on the manager of the restaurant and his ability to communicate with the chefs (usually non-English speakers). My old manager took it very seriously and usually cooked the food himself using aluminum foil on a separate part of the grill and wouldnt let anyone else handle the food. Its too bad you have had those bad experiences.. but if you dont want to give up yet, maybe you should speak with the manager again and really explain how he/she should handle the food. I know its frustrating though!

I currently live in Spain and drink alot of Aquarius orange flavored Sports drinks.. they are made by Coca Cola. I was just diagnosed as a Celiac (this week!) and am trying to cut the gluten out.. but some ingredients I dont know about! It doesnt help that Im in another country with the ingredients written in spanish so if anyone can help me let me know... the ingredients I am worried about are:
citric acid
Stabilizers (E 414, E 445)
aromas
I have heard several different things on citric acid. Another question is about emulsifiers.. if the emulsifier is soy is that ok?
Thanks!

Wow, Im really sorry about your father. I bet there are alot of people who have suffered and had no idea why and its a shame! Thanks guys for all the advice... so what do all of you (who have the problem) do for anemia? My doctor keeps on trying to get me to take iron supplements (i dont eat red meat), but that just usually makes me stopped up and I dont need more stomach problems!! Any other suggestions?
