    ARCHIVED Genetics

My older sister was the first one diagnosed, while she over teaching in Austria. She has always been so sick, and was bedridden during much of high school, with the doctors not having a clue as to what she might have. Until she was diagnosed in Austria, we had never heard of Celiac. When the doctors there told her it was genetic, the rest of the family...
  2. I was looking back over the Teen section and found this topic again, and thought I might share newly updated insight into it all. I've always been one that doesn't like to share the fact that I have celiac disease with people right off the bat, which is probably not a good thing. Anyways, so I met a guy at the beginning of this week and we just hit it off...
  3. It's so interesting to hear everyone talk about how they become more irritable ON the diet. I'm completely the opposite. When I'm on the diet I'm alot more happy and just overall more pleasant to be around, and as soon as I start cheating on my diet, I can become snappy and depressed. I wonder how much of the emotion that we go through is psychological...
  4. I completely understand where you're coming from. Since I was little, I would go through horrible stages of depression. The whole while our family just assumed it was linked to the fact that my Mom was depressed. Turns out both of us, and 4 of my 5 siblings were diagnosed with Celiac almost 2 years ago. I've found that with the gluten-free diet, I do...
  5. I'd definitely have to say it all depends on the person as well; how much self control they have. I'm coming up on the my 2 year "anniversary" of my Diagnosis and still have problems remaining gluten-free (especially since I'm at college). Self control is going to help you as much as anything, because you can be totally aware that something has gluten in...
  6. The thought of someday being able to take a pill that would allow us to eat gluten is amazing. At the same time, like a lot of you, questions are raised to my mind. What about possible side effects? And yeah, a gluten-free diet is really healthy! I could definitely see myself trying it out when *and if* it is offered to the population. I wonder, and...
  7. That's so wonderful that you guys have been able to have such supportive bf/gluten-free and husbands/wives. It does go to show that there are people out there that are willing to help/ even participate in keeping our diet. Just recently i found out that there is a guy up here who is Celiac, and we're around the same age, and his older brother does some...
  8. You know, this topic brings up a good question/thought provoking idea that for some of us could be in the near future, and for others of us on here, is still far away: Would it be easier having a husband/or being in a serious relationship with someone who has celiac disease? Boy, all of that was a mouth full. But honestly, I've thought about this exact...
  9. Hi I understand what you must be feeling. My sister Becky was diagnosed before I was, although only by a couple months. When I heard that she had celiac, I felt bad for her, but as soon as you hear that you might have it, your whole outlook on it changes. My words of encouragement are a few things. First off, you are so very lucky to already understand...
  10. I'm 19 and was diagnosed wiith celiac disease almost 2 years ago. I'm heading into my sophmore year of college. I chose to go away to college in Idaho (i'm from kansas) and found a cooking dorm to live in. That was the best solution for me, because then I didn't have to worry about counting on the Food Service on campus to provide me with gluten-free items...
  11. Topeka, Kansas But I'm currently attending college in Rexburg, Idaho
  12. What is Candida?
  13. I'm from Topeka, born and raised there. Where in Kansas are you at?
  14. Hi, I'm new to the forum. My name is Emily, and I'm almost a sophmore in college. I'm from Kansas, but am going to school in Rexburg, Idaho. I was diagnosed a week or two into my senior year of high school, so I was 17. I turn 19 in two days, so it's been almost 2 years since I found out I had Celiac.
