  1. So I have a question. I keep reading that you have to be careful with makeup, sun screen etc. etc. Why is this? Is it just to avoid DH and if you don't have a problem with it you don't need to worry? I'm still learning all this. Hugs, Carol B
  2. I've only been researching this for 2-3 weeks but one thing I've learned. You either have it or you don't. To me a sensitivity would mean full blown celiac disease and the damage will appear over time. I would either get the enterolabs test or stay on a gluten-free diet for 6 months to see how you do. My father had chrons. Now I wonder if he also had celiac...
  3. Well I can tell you this. Best to take care of it before you get so sick like I've been all these years. Did Dr. Fine tell you what a sensitivity was? I was under the impression that if you DIDN'T have it your blood test would be negative. Remember, I'm new to all t his so don't quote me on it. might be worth it to get the whole thing like I'm doing. That...
  4. I think there was one that would tell you if you had gluten intolerance. you'd probably have to read the descriptions to see which one. I chose the one that included all the tests as I'm starting from zero and really would appreciate knowing all that. Maybe someone here has a better answer. Hugs, Carol B (what is it you'd like to find out through testing...
  5. Hi Nita. Someone correct me here if I'm wrong. From what I've gathered since being on this board, dairy problems will NOT damage your intestines nor keep them from healing. But they will cause symptoms. Maybe someone can expound a little better on this. I'm glad you've been doing so well over all and hope you keep it up. Hugs, Carol B
  6. Hi Nita. I just thought if you wanted to know how your intestines were healing I think they can tell you. As to my results one gal said it took a month. they have been so backlogged it may take longer. I HOPE NOT. I WANT IT NOW! :-( Hugs, Carol B
  7. I don't know what their test shows but Enterolabs says to test with them once a year to see how you are doing. Maybe somone could go into there test and how it would help. Hugs, Carol B
  8. Hi Diana. Welcome to the group. I'm sure you will get some replies from the more knowlegable. Just wanted to say I'm glad you found this. Hugs, Carol B
  9. I wanted to mention that several people on my thyroid group have had iron overload. The treatment is to regulary give blood. Best wishes to Molly for a successful surgery. Hugs, Carol B
  10. If it were my child I probably wouldn't want to do the biopsy either. Although someone here said there kids had it and it was no big deal. With the stool test from enterolabs I wouldn't even think of a biopsy. The stool test supposedly eleminates the need for biopsy. You could check them out. Hugs, Carol B
  11. Dawn, I am so VERY SORRY to hear about your husband. I had a friend who had lymphona and went through a lot. Since learning about celiac disease I've wondered if she had it. Wishing you and your children the best. Hugs, Carol B
  12. Bob's Red Mill all purpose flour???? Wow! I have a bucket of his baking mix, buckets of wheat berries, a bucket of oats etc to give away when my test comes back positive. Guess I'll do a search for this flour. Don't think my co op sells it. Oh well. Hugs, Carol B
  13. Good discussion. I gave up coffee for two months twice. Didn't do a thing for me. When my IBS started I would spend weeks doubled over in tears. Bloating, cramping, very ichy feeling, belching and bowel movements of all sorts. I can't control it when it gets that bad and took to wearing depends to save my poor clothes and underwear. I was never able to relate...
  14. Thanks Judy. When my doctor put me on this diet and decided to test me I asked him how long before I knew I was on the right track. He said 3 weeks. But then a gal on one of my groups told me she knew several people who took 3 months before they new. So, I'm lookinig to enterolabs which I've done on my own to tell me for sure. I've been on this for 2 weeks...
  15. Congratulations Judy. That is wonderful news. How long did it take after you went gluten-free before you started noticing improvement? Keep up the good work and thanks for the encouragement. Hugs, Carol B (who is waiting for airborn to pick up my stool sample)
  16. My enterolab test came today. YEA! I already did the swab test for the genes. Will do the other in the morning and get it out the same day. Hugs, Carol B
  17. Check out the thyroid info at about.com. There are many undiagnosed/undertreated thryoid people in the world. Most doctors don't have a clue. Also, do a search for the Broda Barnes Foundation. They have some good info. thyroid@yahoogroups.com is a good support group and place to ask questions. Get the right tests done (TSH, FT3 and FT4) and post to the group...
  18. Good morning gals. My health history goes back to birth and I'll be 55 in a few weeks. Chronic fatigue/fibromyalgia/low thyroid/low adrenal/sinus and allergies. Turns out that the constipation I had from birth severely up until 20 years ago when the IBS took over may have been from gluten intolerance. Also, the 3 week bout of the stomache flue comming out...
  19. HI Nita. My doctor already forwarned me that a negative blood test doesn't mean I don't have it. He doesn't know about enterolabs or he would have told me I'm sure (although he tries to save his patients money). He will hear it from me though. :-)I've never been able to notice symptoms from what I eat. Unless of course it's nuts/corn (whole) which have...

    ARCHIVED Outback

My kids and I went out of town Friday night. We had read that the Outback Steakhouse had a gluten-free menu so we decided to try it. Fortunately the young man that waited on us knew what we were talking about as he had worked in another town where a couple of celiacs used to frequent. No they didn't have a menu. He went back to the chefs and they had NO...
  21. Hi Chantelle. If it's not a gluten free cookie you are eating then it may not be the dairy you are reacting to. Please DO the test from enterolabs. I found out in my search that only 10% of the worlds celiacs have the classic symptoms. Most doctors are not educated in this disease as they don't know how prevelent it is. You are right in that you can self...
  22. I think Sarah is right about your biospy. I just never thought of that as I'm still new to all this. There is no other way for your villi to get damaged like that so you are on the right track. BEST WISHES on your road to good health. Hugs, Carol B
  23. Hi celiac3270. I want to commend you for taking charge of your new diet at such a young age and also being a support to this group. You will grow up with out a lot of the health challanges us oldies have had. keep up the good work. Do you have any problems with your friends over this? I take it you are the only one in your family with this diagnosis? Hugs...
  24. Hi Nita. I'm just learning all this myself and haven't been formally diagnosed yet. I do understand the cross contamination though. If you toast something in your familys toaster it will pick up the crumbs left behind. Even the SMALLEST amount of gluten can cause problems. Even if you don't notice it your intestines are still being damaged. Amazing I know...
  25. That's interesting. I wonder if anyone has gotten their celiac disease and whatever else they have problems with under control and eleminated their inhalent allergies. I'm about to start allergy shots. In fact, the allergist I went to felt that all my symtpoms over the years were just my immune system over reacting due to my being sick all the time growing...
