  1. Thanks for all the great suggestions. I've got some uses now. Time to start thawing all that flour.
  2. I found sorgum flour in my freezer. I know I bought it to make a mix that Bette Hagman makes, but the more I read the cookbook I didn't like the way she does her mixes. You know, make a 4 C of basic but if you want to bake bread you need 8 C of basic and 3 cups of bread mix and so on and so on. So sits 4lbs of sorgum flour in my freezer. Does anyone...
  3. I just re-read my post and realized I forgot to say its 1/2 C for the corn flour and tapioca flour. The mix came from the Nearly Normal cookbook. I use it for a lot of stuff, I use it cup for cup as a replacement. There is a good 'graham cracker' recipe, and cornbread. I like the cookbook, but the one I use more is the gluten free kitchen. I like...
  4. This is funny, I am actually baking cookies right now. I do believe I have a best recipe, gluten free or not. We live right around the corner from a Nestle bakery and my cookies are better. The recipe is from the Nearly Normal cookbook, but I think I found, and fixed, a flaw in the recipe. 1 stick butter, softened 1/4 lb. shortening 1 C brown sugar...
  5. Yes, I am taking my daughter. She is the one with celiac disease. We will look for you. Did you go last year? Tell me what you know if you did go.
  6. My daughters teacher had them look at their report cards and then put them in an envelope and lick them. She was very sick from it. I told her not to lick anymore things like that.
  7. Thank you. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't being too hard on her for not eating. I do let her do her own thing, I just make sure that what she does eat is good for her. I have managed to get her to add a piece of cheese to her turkey slices. Thank you very much. It's hard to know when to push and when to back off when I don't know how it feels to...
  8. My 11 year old daughter has Celiacs disease. She is getting a little better after about 2 months of being gluten free. She had a terrible stomach ache for so long that she didn't really have an appetite. And now she is slowly getting her appetite back. Only sometimes she still wants to skip meals. She will say she ate a big lunch so doesn't want dinner...
  9. I really like the cookbook Nearly Normal Cooking for Gluten free eating, by Jules Shepard. It has a good variety and everything , so far, has been good. Try some recipes off of websites. Also go through your regular cookbooks and see which recipes don't have gluten in them. You'll be surprised at how many there are.
  10. I just called Mylanta the other day. Right now they can only guarentee that the 'orginal flavor' is gluten free. And only the regular and maximum strength. Of course I had bought "cherry, ultimate strength" I am very new to all of this, less than a month. So just wanted to let you know in case they changed their formula.

    ARCHIVED I Need Advice

Thank you everyone for your words of support. She has been gluten free since Tuesday. Before that she has had a stomach ache all day everyday for 6 months. She would say that the pain was between an 8 and 10 all the time. Now with just a few days of no gluten her pain is a level 5. I can tell her energy has improved (along with her mood swings). ...
  12. My 11 year old daughter was diagnosed on Monday with Celiacs. She had been to her regular Dr. and he ended up telling me that she was depressed. Well, that didn't sit well with me after awhile. Sadly, I did believe him for 5 months and then one day for no reason, I said to myself "labs make mistakes" and then I started doing more research. She had...
