  1. Hi All! I have taken the liberty of "americanizing" Daveyboy's recipe. I just made it today and it is truly divine! I will rename it "Daveyboy's Irish Marcarpone Parfait." Thank you Daveyboy! You are a chef!! __________ 8oz of mascarpone cheese (a standard package size) 1/2 of a pint carton of heavy whipping cream (this actually makes a lower...
  2. Thanks! I will transfer it here (below). I am also hoping people will contribute some of the non-classic symptoms that they have experienced too. Just take a look at the question posted above this one! Somebody is asking about what the symptoms are. This forum is so important to people-- it would be nice to tap into the expertise here and have all...
  3. After reading a number of posts, it occurs to me that one of the most common questions people have is "Can symptom x be gluten-related?" Could we start a list of symptoms actually experienced by people with gluten-sensitivity or celiac disease? This is where some of the expertise from older members could really come in handy for new folks-- it might save...
  4. Hi jnbunny! They are the best gluten-free cookies I have ever had! The holy crap is well placed And they are elegant too-- you can make a design out of almonds for the tops. I am so glad somebody else will get to enjoy them too. Lisa
  5. My migraines are also a thing of the past-- I am sure you have some relief to look forward to on that front. Thank goodness! I also took bentyl for the IBS-- over many years I had a standing RX for it because of the IBSD-- I feel it was completely worthless. It did not stop the D or the pain. Instead I take a papaya enzyme chewable tablet that you can...
  6. My utlra-supportive sister in law made these for me so I wouldn't feel left out at Christmas. They are really good and could be used any time-- not just for Christmas. She sent me the recipe today from the Food network. She did caution me that the batter is quite sticky and takes some work. They have almonds and eggs. Cinnamon Stars: Zimtsterne (Germany...
  7. I have had bad bummers with the GFP french bread dough and just now with the GFP angel food cake mix! The taste is right, but the consistency and density are way off. The cake, when you cut into ti, is not foamy and airy-- and it has a distinct visible division when the bottom half is wetter looking that the top half. It is extremely heavy. These mixes...
  8. I have the same problem too! Mine don't take a year to go away, but it always takes a couple of weeks. I even get the red blisters when they do EKGs--from the little round patches. I am also allergic to latex and have DH. Maybe there is something about being a sensitive/allergic type person that gives some of us a common set of symptoms. And maybe it...
  9. I also had the shoulder pain you are talking about. It was inflamed and there were spasms and it felt like it was on fire or like I had been beaten badly. There were times when it was unbearable and it went on for years. I went to chiropractors and physical therapy and I would take NSAIDS and nothing would work. After being gluten free, it is gone...
  10. Thanks neesee-- I have taken both of those. The toprol (a beta blocker) "overblocks" me before the numbers get where they need to be. It also affects my vision, as well as other side effects. The diovan, which I did tolerate, did nothing--even at the highest dose. Be assured I have been serious about it-- sorry to give the impression I wasn't. I...
  11. Thank you for checking. That was very kind and thoughtful of you. You went above and beyond. The HCM is in the "borderline" category from the echo. I did find an article on the internet that talks about gluten getting deposited in the pericardium (similar to DH). It is an article attached to this site, but I am not sure if it is written by a doctor...
  12. Thank you for the words of encouragement and good advice! I truly appreciate them. I am so grateful for this forum! The Bob's Red Mills "wonderful homemade gluten free bread" out of garbanzo bean flour was edible-- I free formed it on a cookie sheet after snatching it from the bread machine just before "bake" kicked on. It was pretty wet dough ...
  13. Hi-- does anybody know what the realtionship is between a high CRP count and celiac disease? Also, can celiac cause hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (enlarged heart muscle?) How about difficult to control hypertension (okay--difficult to the point that both a nephrologist and a cardiologist have kind of given up)? I have done a preliminary internet search...
  14. Thanks for the help! Let's see.. as for the temperature issue, the oil was room temp but the eggs and milk were cold. I used the yeast that came with the package, but I did buy the bread machine type. It is sounding more and more like the bread machine is not the way to go with these mixes. I have another B's Red Mill mix (the "wonderful gluten free...
  15. I used the french bread setting, which made it 3hours and 50 minutes. If I understand correctly, it needs a longer rising time and if tou can flatten the loaf/ bun out more it will cook more evenly. I found a site called "the bread doctor." After reading a little there, I think perhaps the cake pan was too deep for the cake mix. And perhaps the problem...
  16. I used teflon cookie sheets for the chebes, a mikasa pyrex type pan for the cake and a teflon square pan for the corn bread-- that is what the recipe wanted. perhaps I just have to get used to the new flours (they seem to be denser and not as elastic.)
  17. I don't know why this didn't appear on the forum. I am replying to see if that puts in up there. Lisa
  18. I was misdiagnosed with IBSD for 23 years before finally getting celiac disease confirmed. I lived in terrible pain and took a number of useless medications for this. Even though I had the positive IgA results, it was still treated like IBS because my first biopsy 8 years ago was negative. Then I started getting DH, which was misdiagnosed as shingles...
  19. I am a newbie. I have been trying out the prepackaged stuff experimentally to see if I can live with it. I have been having some trouble in the bread/cake area. After trying a few pre-made loaves (heavy as heck, similar to hammers! Tres yuckie.) I quickly decided to try a few bread mixes, with some bad results. I have a new 2 lb oster bread machine....
  20. As for work, I am the only one with anything besides stomch pain-- nobody else reported vomiting or diarrhea. And I am afraid I did take meat from below the skin, thinking if there was gluten it would be on the skin. I am a newbie and it sounds like I messed up. It was one of those social situations (a holiday party) and it looked like about the only...
  21. Hi all-- I have a wierd symptom (for me, at least.) I am wondering if what happened was gluten related (I ate some rotiserrie chicken from the supermarket and I may have gotten some of the marinade from the skin at 6pm the previous day) or if it is the flu. It has not happened to me before. I definitely have the flu that is going around-- aches and respiratory...
  22. I am on my first gluten free week and I am still trying out prepared products. But for some reason I can't seem to find crackers in my local health food stores or supermarkets. I am looking for the kind you can have with cheeses for holiday hors d'oerves or with nice bits of salmon or veggies with cream cheese-- that sort of thing. I do not really want...
  23. I just tried to make gluten free bread for the first time and this is not going to be so bad. By accident I found something yummy! It does have eggs and dairy. You take a package of the Chebe bread-- the one that says Quick! Easy! Great cheese flavor! You also need a package of the Boursin shallot and chive cheese and 1 small wedge of The Laughing Cow...
  24. Thanks! Especially for the website-- it answered some more of my questions. I also called my first degree relatives and told them to get tested (nobody had mentioned this, so thank you.) If relatives are found to be positive for the antibodies, is it a sure thing they have it? I also referred them to that website. I already notice a marked difference...
