  1. I've had the same thing...followed by some tingling in weird places...my arms, my jaw, etc.... Then I went to my chiropractor. Wow. Apparently I've been a little stressed these past two months (My son, 2 1/2 years old, was diagnosed in June with celiac disease after dropping to 23 lbs in less than 3 months....stress? Nah...haha) He cracked my neck, had me...
  2. The bottom line is that it's entirely up to you how you deal with this. Having celiac disease is like being pregnant, there is no such thing as being "a little bit..." You either are or you aren't. That said, everyone with celiac disease has a very different experience. I don't think I've heard anyone say they have the EXACT same experience as another yet...
  3. In "web world" DH generally refers to Dear Husband or Darling Husband (DS=Darling/Dear Son, DD Darling/Dear Daughter, etc...) However, in THIS world it can me that, or it can be referring to the rash that accompanies Celiac sometimes (Dermatitis H....something I don't have so don't remember) Does that sort of clear things up? Bridget
  4. I seem to recall hearing something like that, but I don't remember exactly what or where. All I know is that up until the day my son was diagnosed, the last month or so ALL he wanted to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner was tortellini. He literally would not eat anything else. Since his diagnosis, and since he's been eating gluten-free, I have not heard one...
  5. YOu can order the MAnna from Anna mix on the gluten free pantry site as well.
  6. To be honest, I am not sure it's a matter of age. Well, I mean, obviously a baby that has never been introduced to gluten isn't going to test positive...but a child that is eating it should test accurately. What the issue is, is the test that was used. From what my Pediatric GI specialist told me, the usual blood tests, that can be run just about anywhere...
  7. A woman in my local support group has used Quaker Oats as well. She says she's super sensitive, and has so far had no reactions. She bought those test strips to try on the oats, and she said they seemed to work. Of course, they indicated no trace of Gluten and she hadn't been sick. So, could be a coincidence or could be the strip worked, who knows.
  8. SPECIAL INFORMATION
  9. I've actually found the bread mixes are probably easier to make without a bread machine....there is no kneading and then second rise to deal with. I'd spend my money on a good Kitchen-Aid stand mixer, which has been my lifesaver as the dough for gluten-free anything is much thicker, therefore harder to stir by hand or even hand mixer. The bread I've made...
  10. I can find most of my gluten-free mixes in our grocery stores, but I'm here in the East. The "BIG" stores now have a "organic/healthy" section, and I've found a TON of gluten-free stuff in those sections. Including Pamela's cookies, Gluten Free Pantry mixes, Arrowhead Mills flours, etc.... So, if you have a "big" grocery store that has one of these sections...
  11. Every thing you mentioned are symptoms, DEFINITELY have all your kids tested including you and your spouse. You can have celiac disease and not have ANY symptoms at all, and that's the worst bc going untreated raises your risk for so many other horrible things. Oh, and if you want a REALLY accurate blood test on the first try get the TTG test. It's more...
  12. I agree with everyone. Sounds like celiac disease to me. My son, 2 1/2, was just diagnosed in June. He had no symptoms other than "the ethiopian look"...extremely bloated belly, see every rib, vertebrae, arms & legs just skin and bones. He was consistently in the 50 and 75th percentiles for height and weight...until this winter. Then he fell off the charts...
  13. Here's the bad news: some people never have "symptoms" My son, 2 1/2 years old, didn't have any physical symptoms. However, starting this past February he started to lose weight. I didn't really realize it at first, until the end of May I noticed that, gee, we could see every rib, vertebrae, etc... and then he started having NO energy and just wanting to...
  14. First, for amyandsebastian, I must say I laughed when I read your post. I remember the first day you posted to this board, so lost and confused. And now you are handing out advice like a pro! See, it really didn't take long did it!? Anyway, everyone here is great heathermelissa and celiac3270 and Amyandsebastian are right: ask questions. That's what we...
  15. My 2 1/2 year old was just diagnosed in June. He had his blood tested first, and it was sent to the Mayo Clinic. The results were back within a week. He then had the endoscopy, which frankly was a breeze and WAY easier than the blood draw! They knock them out at that age, so he had no idea anything even happened. In fact, on the way home he wanted McDonald...
  16. The Gluten-Free Pantry yellow cake is yummy...even the kids at my sons daycare liked it. They asked why it was so "crumby" but other than that, they liked it.
  17. I'd be interested to know what blood test they ran. Some aren't as 'accurate' as others. I know we had the TTG test done, which is considered to be one of the most accurate but must be done 1 of the only 5 labs in the country who do it reliably (ours was sent to the Mayo Clinic) I know it sucks, but you may want to reconsider another test if you didn't have...
  18. I LOVE the bright orange dish idea...I'll have to remember that for the future, when my son can understand that sort of thing. In the meantime I have to agree with Ryebaby, most people don't truly understand the whole gluten free thing, but they also do not want to make a child sick and probably would feel horrible if they did inadvertantly. So, here's what...
  19. There is no reason for your diagnosis/treatment for him to want this informatin, but is he perhaps doing some research on Celiac? I would ask him that, if he is then it would be great to contribute. I mean, if your history can help others get diagnosed more quickly, etc...then yippee! But that's really the only reason I can think of for him wanting that information...
  20. debmidge, I use that bread mix too, and LOVE it. Do you find the cream and oil make it a little less crumbly? I am always looking for ways to improve on that! Bridget
  21. This is amazing!!! Why is it so hard for other restaurant chains to come up with this sort of information?? Bridget
  22. It's "that" time of year again, Fair Time. I am just wondering if anyone can give some good gluten-free "fair food" suggestions. Obviously fried dough is out, but what about cotton candy? sno-cones? etc...
  23. I just heard from Chili's (sent a message yesterday or the day before) Here's what they say: Thank you very much for your email and for your interest in Chili's. We are very happy to provide you with a list of suggested menu items. Please be aware that we cannot guarantee that any item is completely wheat-free due to cross-contamination possibilities...
  24. I used the Gluten Free Pantry's cake mix, and it was a little dry. Any suggestions for making cakes moist? (substitutions for the oil?? An additional egg?)
  25. Stacy, and anyone else who wants a list, I HIGHLY recommend purchasing for $20 the Mainstream Products List from CSACeliacs. It is a great list, and combined with the list posted here is quite comprehensive. I have both, and there are items on one not on the other and vice versa. I've combined them and now have quite a selection of things to choose from....
