ARCHIVED Product Lists
Boojca replied to celiac3270's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well, celiac3270, I'll help you out a little here. I emailed Carvel today, asking specifically which of their flavors are gluten-free and if you can special order their cakes w/o the chocolate "crunchies" in the center as those contain wheat. Here's what they said: Thank you for your email. Most of our ice cream is gluten-free, except for those that contain... -
ARCHIVED Breaded(gf), Fried Chicken!
Boojca replied to Alexolua's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I made chicken "nuggets" this way for my son, but I had a problem with the breading sticking on...some had hunks of the bread fall off. Was this bc I turned it too much? Any tips on getting the breading to "stick" better? -
I would use a little of the flour you are already baking with, that way the taste won't change. But I'm also with everyone else, non-stick rocks!!! ;-)

I've used Libby's Creamed Corn...and I have a can of Del Monte that lists modified corn starch, so I'm assuming that's safe too.

ARCHIVED Gf Frozen Pizzas
Boojca replied to hjkmatthews's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
After 2 whole months without his beloved Pizza I tried an Amy's frozen one the other night. My two-year old thought he'd died and gone to heaven! He kept making little happy noises as he ate, and even did a little dance when I told him we were having pizza for dinner. He ate almost half the pizza for dinner, and then had the other half for lunch the next... -
I use Tinkyada as well....the best, most "normal" tasting/feeling/acting that I've found so far...and I don't add anything to the water and it cooks great. The thing to remember with this type of pasta is that you can never use too much water, but you CAN cook it too long, which leads to the mess you describe. Try cooking it for the minimum amount of time...

ARCHIVED Dannon Yogurt
Boojca replied to jaimek's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
For anyone who can get it, Cabot yogurt is gluten free. In fact, all Cabot products are gluten free!!! Yippee!!! Bridget -
ARCHIVED Cider Vinegar
Boojca replied to HeatherMelissa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Also be ware of Apple Cider FLAVORED Vinegar (Heinz has this and clearly makes the distinction on their gluten-free list as the flavored vinegar is NOT gluten-free) Bridget -
ARCHIVED Could My 2yo Have Celiac?
Boojca replied to TaylorsMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
"Mommy Instinct" is the strongest one there is...don't EVER doubt yourself. Isn't it better to over-react than to regret ignoring something later? A Pediatric GI is definitely the way to go, if only bc they can get the right tests done and then help you through the transition from gluten-full to gluten-free. I LOVE our Ped GI. And before you even get... -
ARCHIVED First Gf Birthday Coming Up
Boojca replied to ryebaby0's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well, I highly recommend the Gluten Free Pantry Chocolate Truffle Brownie mix....OHMIGOD. Even my non-celiac disease husband packs these in HIS lunch!!! Wow. That's all I have to say. The Bob's Red Mill are awesome too, but fresh. Once you freeze them and then eat them they are still good, but a little bitter. Must be the chocolate they use. Bridget -
ARCHIVED Gulden's Mustard
Boojca replied to jaimek's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That's weird...but I'm not sure it was the mustard either. Are you sure there wasn't something wrong with the turkey, or that you just simply weren't feeling well. I know that when my son doesn't feel well I automatically blame gluten, even when I know he hasn't had any. Sometimes, as the saying goes, a cigar is only a cigar.... -
ARCHIVED Who Do I Talk To?
Boojca replied to Thomas's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Unfortunately barley is frequently hidden...in caramel coloring. I wish they would've included all of these in the bill. Talk about making life REALLY much more simple! Sigh....baby steps I guess... Bridget -
ARCHIVED Natural And Atrifical Flavors
Boojca replied to HeatherMelissa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You can add Planters to the list that will clearly mark as well. They, just like Nabisco, are subsidiaries of Kraft. Bridget -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Every Tried..
Boojca posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Whole grain or multi-grain bread mixes? I tried the Manna From Anna and LOVED it, but wondered how these compare? The Manna is sooo incredibly moist I can't believe it. Thanks for any advice! Bridget -

ARCHIVED After Gf Diet, Do Children Heal Totally?
Boojca replied to klang77's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have some good news for you. My son was diagnosed in June, he is 2 1/2 and he got so that he was hardly eating a thing. He dropped from 27 lbs this winter to 23 lbs. He is now 28 lbs and eating anything and everything he can get his hands on. I am here to tell you that more than likely once your daughter starts feeling better she will start to eat more... -
ARCHIVED I Am So Proud Of Myself
Boojca replied to AmyandSabastian's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It is so funny, bc after the initial shock of it all...and after the overwhelming feeling of "what can I ever feed him/her???" wears off....I think every single one of us parents dealing with this has had the same thought "It's only food, there's plenty of it out there, and it could sooooo be worse!" I know that my doctor tested for all the truly horrible... -
ARCHIVED Could My 2yo Have Celiac?
Boojca replied to TaylorsMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If your daughter doesn't have Celiac, I'd be amazed. Totally. Your daughter is my son...he was diagnosed in June at age 2 1/2 and he weighed 23 lbs...looked like an ethiopian....he had no GI symptoms, just the loss of weight. Good luck!!! Bridget -
ARCHIVED First Gf Birthday Coming Up
Boojca replied to ryebaby0's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Did you try the gluten-free Pantry yellow cake and cookie mix, or the Danielle's Chocolate Cake? I only ask bc I know the yellow one can be dry...but I've heard raves about the chocolate. Here's a suggestion, why not bake the brownies and frost those? mmmmmmmmmm.... -
ARCHIVED I Am So Proud Of Myself
Boojca replied to AmyandSabastian's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
YYYAAAYYYY!!!!!! I said it once, and I'll say it again: it's so great to see you doing so well. I remember your very first post, and you have come sooo far from that day. I agree, the baking is THE hardest part. You've got the right attitude, though, and you will get there. I find the Gluten Free Pantry Favorite Sandwich Bread is the best, although... -
ARCHIVED Sore Throat Feels Swollen ?celiac?
Boojca replied to lyndszai's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have you had your thyroid tested? Could be that, I know that is one of the things they say could be a sign of hypothyroid....get it checked, it's a simple blood test. Bridget -
Sorry Eddie, but the other two here are right. Some people go their entire lives with no symptoms at all. My son has no "GI symptoms"...none of the diarrhea, bloating, etc..., he just suddenly lost a lot of weight and was very lethargic. He's been gluten-free just over a month now, and he's already gained 5 lbs back! Anyway, if your blood work said you...

ARCHIVED Eating Less Gluten - Any Benefit?
Boojca replied to adamschroeder's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Adam, All I can say is that the product listing will be your best friend. I LOVE them. The one on Delphi is great. I also purchased ($20) the one from CSA Celiacs AND I have the one that was posted in one of these forums as well. Believe it or not, there are items on one that are not on the others, so I've found having all of these has allowed me to put... -
ARCHIVED New-14 Month Old Just Diagnosed!
Boojca replied to momof2's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Just remember, if you've already changed her diet then her biopsy may NOT come back positive. Our Pedi. GI guy told us not to change anything until after the biopsy so that everything would test correctly. He just so wanted to be able to give us a "true" diagnosis. My son is 2 1/2, isn't it sooo horrible that they can't just TELL us what they are feeling... -
ARCHIVED Dealing With Other People's Reactions?
Boojca replied to sunflower's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is a very interesting thread. Co-dependence in a relationship, as far as I have always understood, means that one cannot seem to function without the other. I had a friend in high school who's parents had been high school sweethearts, got married, never movedo out of town, etc... They are wonderful, very caring people. However, if her father had to go...
