  1. Following is the response I got from the Longhorn. I responded back thanking them for their assistance and letting them know their competition The Outback Steakhouse, who also uses spices, HAS created a gluten free menu. Take that Longhorn. It's too bad too, because I really like their food. Unfortunately I won't be frequenting their restaurant any longer...
  2. Oh, absolutely. My son is 2 1/2 and drinks constantly. It's a good thing! B
  3. I think you should talk with the doctor, possibly without your daughter there, and see if he/she is concerned that it's not below 20 by now. Is it possible that your daughters body is just healing slowly? If she's feeling well, and the numbers are going down, I would think that is proof enough that you are doing things right and that it's going well. It's...
  4. Amy, Seeing celiac3270's post made me remember something else. I not only made myself a binder I also copy everything I get and have made binders for my mother, the other grandmother, our daycare provider...anyone who may care for our son for more than just a few hours. That way, they are covered whether it be for an overnight visit or when preparing for...
  5. I was psyched too! About the nuts, but also bc I found out that Nabisco is a Kraft company and follows their labeling standards as well. Makes it sooo much easier to trust the labels when you know they are clear! YEAH Kraft (Nabisco and Planters)!!!! Bridget
  6. Ok here's the scoop. I called Planters yesterday bc you all had me freaked out bc I've been feeding this to my newly diagnosed son. Turns out Planters and Nabisco are both Kraft companies, so their labels follow the same guidelines as any Kraft product. Ie, if something contains an allergen it will say so. The example the guy on the phone gave me was "If...
  7. Per the Hood website, following are the products they have verified are gluten free. Enjoy!!! Below is a list of Hood products that have been confirmed gluten free: All Hood brand fluid milk (in all fat levels) Hood Chocolate Milk (full fat and low fat; all sizes) Hood Simply Smart
  8. My boss's daughter has allergies to gluten, dairy and eggs. She's looking for some mixes for breads, treats, etc... My son only has the gluten intolerance thankfully. I'm trying to help her, but have no idea if egg substitute is ok for her or if powdered milk is ok. Anyone know? I know Bob's Red Mill has these mixes, but are the Gluten Free Pantry mixes as...
  9. I was shopping yesterday and saw in the "natural" foods section of my supermarket a "Natural" line of Doritos, and one is a white nacho cheese and it didn't list any gluten containing ingredients! I'm calling them today, but I was psyched!! Bridget
  10. I'm with Judy and celiac3270. The more I read about this (and I've only been doing this for less than a month) the more I start to think THIS is more the norm than non-gluten-free!!! It seems like every time I bring it up someone else says 'Oh, I have that" or "Oh, my friend, neighbor, coworker, etc... has that"...it's AMAZING. Why it's sooo hard for these...
  11. I was just coming on to say I bought a bag, then read the ingredients and wondered if anyone had talked to the company? There's caramel coloring, and natural/artificial flavors. I wanted to be sure this is really ok before I give it to my two year old, who doesn't get diarrhea or anything like that for me to be able to know if he's had a 'mistake' His only...
  12. I got so excited today when I was at the store and saw the Newman's Own Fig Newtons...wheat free, and something else free. But, being the skeptic, I read the label. First ingredient, Barley flour. GGGRRRR..... I read somewhere (not sure if this board or somewhere else) someone else was recommending these. DO NOT GET THEM. They are not gluten-free, merely...
  13. Jhmom, are you SURE these are gluten-free??? Sounds too good to be true, to this mom of a 2 1/2 year old who is NOT happy about giving up his goldfish. Please say it's so!!!! Are they all gluten-free? (the flavors, I mean) Bridget
  14. Are you SURE it's not just a bug? I'm in VT and it's going around here wicked right now. I know 6 kids that are out with vomiting, diarrhea, etc... and it's just a virus that's going around. Can't wait to get it! ;-) hahaha.... This seems to be lasting about a week. B
  15. First, you are in good company. My son is 2 1/2 and was just diagnosed on June 3. He's been gluten free since that day, and I cannot believe the difference already!! It's truly amazing. I feel the same way as you. First, relief that we knew what it is and that he's going to be ok and it's "simple" in that it's a diet change and not medications, surgeries...
  16. As far as I'm aware, I think it's only the Nacho Cheese flavor (the original dorito) that has wheat flour in it. At least that's the only one not on their list of "gluten-free" chips.
  17. The amount of syrup put in shouldn't determine whether it's gluten-free or not, either it is or it isn't right? The ingredients in Coke syrup is the same whether it's a TBSP or a gallon, correct?
  18. Wait a minute, fountain sodas aren't gluten free????
  19. First, I am in Jessica's group (SillyYaks) and it is GREAT. I highly recommend getting on that list. Second, buy Danna Korn's book "Kids with Celiac Disease: A Family Guide to Raising Happy, Healthy, Gluten-Free Children" it is really helpful. I have a 2 1/2 year old who was just diagnosed a little over a week ago and he's already putting on weight...
  20. I have to agree with Jessica. Stand in that crowded waiting room and say, "You mean to tell me, bc YOU have personally never heard of this VERY common disease that 1 in 150 people has, that you are not willing to run a simple blood test???" Let's see how they move then.... You HAVE to push this, it's not something that can wait. Your baby needs you. My...
  21. You are your child's best, and only, advocate. The doctors say no? Then point blank ask them what's the harm in testing? If it's no, prove me wrong. Tell them you want the TTG test, and you want it sent to Mayo Clinic, and you want it NOW. It's a simple blood test and gets the ball rolling. Go over their heads. Are they affiliated with a hospital? Go the...
  22. I was talking with the woman at the Celiac Association on Friday who also has a two year old with celiac disease. She told me she'd had a GREAT find, and I wanted to share it with you all. In the spaghetti sauce section of normal grocery stores, where the Kraft Parmesan Cheese is stacked you may be able to find canisters of Kraft Mac & Cheese cheese....
  23. Hi there! If it makes you feel any better, I am new too. My 2 1/2 year old was just diagnosed last Thursday. I've been doing a TON of research, along with my mother, and utilizing this board. Another good thing is contact the Celiac Association, the woman who answered the phone also has a celiac disease 2 year old and was GREAT for me to talk to. Here's...
  24. My 2 1/2 year old son was just diagnosed with this on Thursday. He LOVES popcorn, are there any microwave popcorns that are allowed? Most importantly, is Pop Secret Homestyle allowed? We LOVE that kind. Could it be I may, gasp!, have to make REAL popcorn from now on. ;-) This is a great list, I went through and read a bunch of the postings last night....
